Wearing a little white gown offered to me by Karla, I quickly went out of bed and followed him to the living room. Seeing the faces of the guys who saved us from the men of Derrick made me panic again.
"I thought I asked you girls never to step an inch out of this door? What happened today?" Gerald asked while looking straight into our eyes.
For some minutes we said nothing. I was standing behind Karla for fear of him maybe hitting me. He quickly asked me to change my position.
"I'm I talking to someone? I need answers and I need them right now, you two. You better say something." He yelled out.
"Dad, please you do not have to get mad at us, we just went out to visit the environment. We had no idea we were going to fall on Derrick and his men." Karla said with a slow voice and her head almost bowed down.
"You keep disobeying me and I don't know why. Maybe when they succeed in k********g you, then you might listen to what i have been preaching for the past ten years. Karla, when we arrived in the grasslands, I asked just for one favor, which was to never leave this house without me being with you, because the environment is very dangerous." Gerald said calmly.
When Gerald saved me from the plane and took me to his house, he told me the environment was dangerous and my life was at risk. I really had no idea it was that dangerous. I thought he was just a kind man who was afraid for his loved ones. What I saw with my eyes wasn't what I imagined.
"Please calm down Gerald, I know you are mad at them, but please consider what they just went through. I think what they need right now is a cup of coffee to relieve them of the stress they have been through." Perry said while tapping his hands on Gerald's shoulder.
"You are right. But they are going to prepare the coffee by themselves. I didn't send anyone outside and if they had taken my words seriously none of this would have happened. Thank you for saving them, you are truly a friend." Gerald said.
Finally, Perry had succeeded in calming down Gerald. Not leaving them lonely, we went to the kitchen and quickly made something chewable for Perry and the eight guys seated in the living room. We didn't know what to do, as we were stressed out. Something finally came into our mind.
We made bean sauce and potatoes for dinner, done in the kitchen, we served them at table and we made sure they ate to the fullest.
While eating, Derrick's face kept coming at me. I tried as much as I could to stop thinking about the incident, but it was impossible. Perry noticed how difficult it was for me to place a spoon of food into my mouth, he asked me to take things slowly and he promised everything was going to be fine, soon or later.
The City........
Time went on, Helene and Joseph were in a secret relationship. They couldn't afford to let anyone know about this because they knew everyone was going to condemn them.
Joseph always sneaked out of the house after dinner to go meet Helene as they had agreed to meet up only after work.
It was becoming strange. Harold noticed he always came back very late and at times he slept out and only came back the next morning very early. Harold at first tried to let it go. To him he thought it was Joseph's way of mourning me.
But one night after dinner, Harold stood up and decided to follow Joseph without him being aware. He wanted to find out what his brother had been hiding away from him.
Soon after Joseph left the house, Harold followed him and he made sure he wasn't aware till he arrived at his destination.
There, Joseph was seated with a lady and they had been exchanging funny words, making them laugh so hard. For someone who had just lost his wife, Harold found it very strange.
Next, Joseph kissed the lady passionately. Still Harold was in his hiding position and saw everything. Except that he couldn't see the lady with whom he was because Joseph was seated opposite to her.
Harold was curious and wanted to know the lady who had succeeded in getting his heart in just a few months. He approached them and what he saw was very surprising.
"You?" He asked as he pointed a finger at Helene.
Helene was putting on a grim smile when she noticed Harold was standing in front of them.
"Common Harold, why are you so agitated? We just met here to have a few drinks. I don't understand why you are getting this twisted." Helene said vividly.
"Oh shut the trap. You think I walked in just now? If you must know, I hid myself behind the flower jar and I saw everything. Believe me, when I say I saw everything, including the kiss you both exchanged. Do you still want to pretend?" Harold asked nervously.
At this moment, Helene and Joseph were muddled. They didn't know how to go about it. Yet, Harold did not say his last words, he still had some in his belly.
"Who would have thought? You are Jane's best friend, betraying her in such a manner. Couldn't you wait for her corpse to rotate before you show her the other side of you? I mean, you are just a pretty damsel with a demonic heart." Harold added.
For a while, Joseph kept quiet and Helene was losing it already. Out of anger, she broke her silence and brought Harold to order.
"I don't understand why you are getting mad. Do you prefer your brother sink into depression because he lost his wife? You should be thankful, at least I'm helping him get out of this situation. Jane is dead and so does life continue okay?" Helene muttered.
Harold couldn't believe what just came from Helene's mouth. He was beginning to wonder if she was really a friend to me.
"You are not a kid, so I won't battle out words with you. I hope your mind judges you for this ridiculous decision of yours." Harold addressed Joseph. Next, he left for the house.
