Mate

Julia's POV (this chapter is the continuance of her interview from her point of view) Standing just on the inside of his office with my back pressed against the door as his scent stopped me dead in my tracks, I was shocked to find out he was my mate. "The irony of it was insane when I thought back to the dream I had last night," I said to myself. I never thought I would find my mate after everything I had been through in my life. "Maybe there is a Moon Goddess out there after all," I grinned. I was here for an interview, not find my mate. I didn't think this would happen here of all places. My mother told me that everything always happens for a reason no matter what you try to do; if it is to happen, it will happen. All I could do was stand there and sniff at this amazing view in front of me. I was trying hard not to look like an i***t and trying not to gawk at such an amazing man. The way his hair was brushed firmly back and held there, he appeared so sensational. His eyes were the most gorgeous, deep, mysteriously dark shade of brown I had ever seen. He had the body of a God, I thought, and I could tell that he is tone under all that suit. His skin was a shade of tan that you would find on one of those male commercial models on TV. He looked perfect in every aspect of the word. I was curious to know how his voice sounded. My mouth watered at the sight of him. The sexiest feature of him all was his deep dimples that formed just on the corners of his mouth. I took a deep breath and collected myself and my thoughts of what I wanted to do to that man and stepped forward to the seating area. His office was unlike anything I had seen before. The seating area was vast, with a black leather couch and matching loveseat and two smaller chairs in front of his desk. His office was also elegant and clean. I noticed how organized he is, with multiple files on his desk and one in his hand. "Good morning Mr. Price, my name is Julia Peters. I am here for my interview," I softly spoke with my head tilted down."Good morning Miss Peters, you may call me Elijah. I would prefer it if you look at me while speaking. It is insulting to talk to someone while looking down," he stated with a stern tone in his voice."I apologize, sir, I mean no disrespect" I slowly hesitated to say while looking at his beautiful dark brown eyes. There was something about him that had my mind in a boggle and surely wasn't just because he was her mate. There was something that I felt he was hiding, but I was not going to worry about that right now; I was here for the job. He spoke with such professionalism that you thought he had been doing this job his whole life. "Miss Peters, what do you think makes you more qualified for this position than the other applicants that have applied for it?" he asked as he sat all relaxed and calm with his hand crossed together in his lap."Mr. Price, I mean Elijah, I feel that I can be quite an asset to this company and also you. I am a swift learner and organized to the T." "If you allow me to show you, I can promise you will not be disappointed," I continued as I nervously chewed on my bottom lip. In the silence, Elijah kept looking in the folder in his hands, assuming that it was her file he was reviewing when he spoke up, "You start tomorrow, don't be late," he said with emphasis. I gulped and stuttered at his tone, " Yes, sir." After I finished my interview, I suddenly felt famished. That bagel I ate earlier was long gone, and I could hear my stomach rumble as I felt like I was starving. I decided I would have a quick lunch at the little sweets and treats shop right around the corner from the office. I managed to make my way into the shop as it was always busy. It was right in the middle of two major companies on the block, and of course, all the businessmen and businesswomen would usually stop in for a coffee or a sandwich. Stepping up to the counter to order, I couldn't help but notice someone staring at me. "Julia Peters? Is that you?" I heard the deep masculine voice say as he stepped closer to me. He looked very familiar, although I couldn't place him. "Do I know you?" I asked with a skeptical look on my face. "Jules, don't tell me you don't remember who I am? Do childhood best friends ring a bell?" he asked. "I thought you were dead, Jules; we all thought you were dead," he said with a worried and hurt look. "OMG... Jason, is that you? You have all grown up," I told him as I gave him a big brotherly hug. I hadn't had anything to do with my pack since the attack, thinking they were all dead, I had no idea that I would ever run into not only someone I knew from them. He was my best friend when we were pups and into teenage years. My family thought that we would end up being mates; that never happened because we never saw each other like that. He was the son of my father's Beta, so we were always around each other. When we were younger, we went to his garage, stole his dad's truck, and ran it into the pond. He was so mad at us; he grounded us for a month. "Yep, in the flesh." "I can't believe it's you. How have you been? What have you been doing? Why are you in New York?" I asked him as he looked at me with his brows raised, waiting for me to shut up so he could answer. "Well, I have been doing good. I just started working for a construction company up here, and I moved to New York because it was time for me to move away and start a new life after my father was killed and I went and lived with near by relatives," he told me as we got the food that we ordered and went to sit down at a nearby table. "After the attack, I managed to find my family that lived in northern California off the territory. I lived with them and graduated high school, then I turned eighteen and move out to go find my mate, start my new life, and find a good job," he told me as we sat and ate and talked about the old days. I hadn't told anyone but Cat about my past yet, and I wasn't ready to yet. I wasn't sure how Jason would react to the fact that I was a rogue wolf now and not in a pack so I don't know how I would tell him about my past. I know it will come up one day now that he has came back into my life after all these years but I wanted to focus on one task at a time. "So Jules, how have you been? What have you been doing lately? Have you found your mate yet?" he started drilling me with questions. "I have been doing good. Now that you're back in my life , hopefully for good and have always been more of a brother to me I might as well tell you what happemed after the attack." So much for keeping my rogue staus a secret I thought. "I ran away into the woods after the attack and was kidnapped and tortured for an eternity it felt like. It was the most horrendous time of my life. I managed to escape and found some scent suppressants to hide my scent until I could hitchhike far enough away, where I could start a new life. A girl named Catalina, which is like a sister to me, managed to find me passed out on the side of the road in Colorado. She took me with her back to New York; the rest is history. We got an apartment in the city; she has her own photography business, and I just got a job at Price Enterprises today." "Price Enterprises? As in Elijah and Edward Price?" he asked with a look on his face as if he knew I was hiding something. "Yes, Price Enterprises. What's with the look?" "I don't have a look." "Yes you do, spit it out." "You just look like your glowing is all. You look so happy; I haven't seen you like this since we were younger. You never answered my last question about if you have a mate yet, and Elijah and Edward Price are my boss's boss, by the way." "Oh, so that's what it is? Well, Elijah is my boss and also my mate. I haven't approached him or tried to talk to him about it yet. I am just trying to play it day by day," I told him, hoping he wouldn't freak out on me because my mate was his boss, and he was my boss too. It is also much for one day it felt. "Don't worry, Jules; I won't say anything unless you give me the go-ahead." "I haven't found my mate yet, but I know she's out there somewhere. I am not going to give up until I find her." "I am so happy to see you, Jason. I didn't know what happened after the attack. All I could do was just run. I am so sorry for running away and making you think I was dead. I was so scared; that was the only thing I knew to do. We were just teenagers. If I had known that you survived, I would have stayed there with you, but I was terrified after seeing what happened to the pack," I said to him as tears started forming in my eyes. "Can you ever find it in your heart to forgive me?" The tears started rolling down my cheeks as I quickly wiped them away and took a deep breath. "Julia, I will always forgive you. You are like a sister to me, and I will always consider you family. I love you, Jules; I am not mad at you. I am just glad that you are alive. Did you say you were kidnapped?" "I don't want to talk about that part of my life; I'm not ready to talk about it," I said as I looked down at my food on my plate. "Ok, I won't pry; just know I am here for you if you want to talk." "Thanks, maybe one day I will be able to open up that part of me and heal from it, but now I don't want to even think about it. It's no offense to you, Jason, but I will not discuss it," I told him as I slid my food away from me, suddenly losing my appetite. I relive the nightmares every night. Some are not so bad others are worse than you can ever imagine. I'll never forget, those people took years of my innocence from me and my life, and I know one day I will return the favor and make them suffer a painful death; until then, I will live and be happy. We finished our lunch and made our way to the door. I still needed to go home and get some things done before my first day of work tomorrow. He walked me out of the shop as we started to part ways. "Hey here's my number, call me some time; we can hang out or something," as he took my phone and put his number in it. "That would be great. I want you to meet my roommate. She's pretty down to Earth; I think you would like her." "That sounds good to me. I'm staying in the apartments on Grand Central Ave. Apartment A6 on the third floor if you ever want to come to hang out." he said as he stepped closer to me to hug me. "It was perfect catching up with you, Jason. I am heading home to get things ready for my first day of work tomorrow," I told him, turning to walk away. "See you later, Jules."
