I made it back to the apartment just in time for Cat to come strolling in from the kitchen. "What's got you so bright-eyed and bushy-tailed," she exclaimed, rolling her eyes at me.
Hell, I didn't know I had this s**t-eating grin on my face that lasted for days.
"I found him."I shouted. "I got the job, and I also found my mate, and you will never believe in this world who he is, none other than the beautiful Elijah Price, of all people." I couldn't believe it myself that the Moon Goddess thought it would be best to bless me with such a sexy man. Even though he was rough around the edges and snappy and snarky, I knew I could handle his manly self.
Thinking back to my 'wet dream,' it clicked. That was him. I couldn't believe I was creaming my panties and thanking the Moon Goddess all in the same day.
"It is nothing I can not handle," I thought as I was taking my heels off at the door. "I swear I will never wear those f*****g heels again; my feet are killing me," I winced as I slowly tried to walk upstairs to change.
"Why don't we go out and celebrate tonight; my treat," Cat squealed as she stood in her doorway trying to put her shirt on.
"I am having an amazing day, to say the least, and nothing was going to ruin it; sure, that sounds fun," I squealed excitedly, as I made my way back downstairs.
"Cat, I ran into one of my friends I grew up with when I was younger. I want you to meet him. He's a great guy and my best friend," I yelled downstairs to her.
"Uh, excuse me, I thought I was your best friend?"
"You are, but you are also like a sister to me too; he's like a brother also, so you are both equal," shrugging my shoulders as I walked back into the kitchen where she was.
"Well, what is your friend's name?"
"Jason. He's from my old pack. He was my father's Beta's son, so we grew up together until 'you know what' happened." She stopped what she was doing as I explained to her who Jason was and how I knew him. Her face told me she was not fond of those memories of her finding me back then.
"I told him what happened to me after the attack and how you met me. Cat, he thought I died; I felt like dying. I told him almost everything, but I couldn't bear to tell him all the details about the kidnapping," I told her as I scrumaged around in the wine cabinet and pouring myself a massive glass.
"I apologized to him for running away and why I ran," I said as I gulped the whole glass in one drink.
"Julia, what happened to you three years ago was not your fault; therefore, you have no reason to apologize to anyone."
"I know, but I feel terrible for leaving him behind and thinking I was dead. He said he forgave me, so I hope that we can start where we left off when we were younger," sighing and leaning my forehead on the kitchen bar.
"He gave me his number and told me where he is living, so I may try to hang out with him one day when I get a chance. By the way, Cat, he does not have a mate yet; hint, hint."
"I'm not looking for anything right now, Jules. I can't be anyone's mate.I am trying to focus on my photography career. Plus, what if by chance I did start dating him and I fell for him, and then he found his mate? What then? My heart would be broke, but he would be in love. No, thanks."
"I know he is your mate, you can't help biology, and the Moon Goddess makes no mistakes; you know this," stating as I poured the remaining wine down the drain. I could feel it in my bones that Cat and Jason were mates. My senses were telling me otherwise. Maybe it was the fact that I wanted them to be mates, and I knew Jason was a wonderful guy and would treat her right, either way, I would still be happy even if they weren't mates.
I would have both of my best friends in my life and that at that moment mattered more than trying to play matchmaker.
"I need to go get groceries for the house. I start my job tomorrow, and I know it will be hectic trying to remember to get something to fix for dinner every night after work," I said to Cat, grabbing my purse and walking out the door.
I had planned on going to the local market that was just a few blocks away to get groceries. It seemed like we never had anything to cook in that house. I knew Cat was super busy with her new photography business and spent a lot of her waking hours down at the studio, but she needed to learn to multi-task.
It was such a beautiful day out that I decided I would walk to the market. I mean, hell, it was only a few blocks. I could use the fresh air and exercise.
I made it to 5th Ave and Lexington Blvd when I felt like someone was following me. I brushed it off, thinking, "It's just my mind playing tricks on me." I mean, I was a wolf, and I had a phenomenal sense of smell and hearing. I would be able to if something strange approached me. I finally made it to the market, realizing that I was in such bad shape. I missed those morning workouts with the warriors and other pack members when I lived at the packhouse. Although I was younger, my father always told me I needed to learn to protect myself if anything was to ever happen.
That didn't work out as planned, so much for protection.
It had been a little over three years since the attack on my pack. I could feel my anxiety on the rise, but I shook it off and focused on the task.
Making my way through the aisles, I decided I would cook my famous lasagna for dinner. Cat loved my lasagna. What can I say? I was a sucker for Italian food. I grabbed the few things I needed to cook and went to check out.
I stepped out of the market when that beautiful, delicious smell hit me like a brick wall. "s**t, It was Elijah," I gasped. I knew he was close due to my senses going into overdrive. I couldn't help but feel my heart start pounding in my chest as the nervousness and fear took over.
"Calm down, Julia," I said over and over in my head. "It's just a man," I laughed to myself. Well, not just any man laughing as I started down the sidewalk. Keeping my composure, I didn't want to seem like the little high school girl that squealed over the hot football player.
I started to make my way back towards my apartment when I reached 3rd Ave. That was when I saw him. He looked straight into my eyes as we stared at each other for a moment.
"Good afternoon, Miss Peters," he smoothly spoke as a twinkle in his eye caught my stare. I could feel my heart beating in my throat as I struggled to make any noise come out of my mouth. "Good...aa..fternoon Elijah," I stammered as I was eye-f*****g him as he stood there in front of me. I just couldn't help myself. He was the most magnificent man I had ever seen. I couldn't help that he made me weak in the knees and cream my panties just at the sound of his voice.
"So what brings you to this side of town?" he asked as he slowly made his way closer to me, never taking his eyes off me and leaning in to scent me. I was hoping he wouldn't smell Jason on me, although Jason was only a Beta, Alpha's had better senses than a Beta or an Gamma. I knew how his temper would be when it came to his mate for alpha's, let alone any wolf were highly protective of their mates.
I couldn't help but struggle to breathe as he inched closer to me. He slowly raised his hand and let his finger trail across my burning cheeks as I could feel them redden even more at the feel of his touch. The electricity from our bodies touching sent me into a frenzy as I started breathing heavily; I couldn't help it. It was biology; I didn't want to fight it, but I didn't want to let him take me right there either.
"Julia, why do you smell like another wolf?" he asked as his brown eyes started to darken, and his fists began to clench at his sides. The thought of him getting jealous over another wolf made me feel a flutter in my stomach, and I couldn't help but smile. I raised my hand as I caressed his cheek to calm him down. He closed his eyes as his breathing began to steady and return to normal.
Thinking of his large c**k thrusting inside me made me clench down on my thighs; I couldn't help but feel embarrassed standing there in front of him, feeling my face redden as he took hold of my waist and pulled me up against his body. Was this a dream, too?
"Julia! Earth to Julia!" he shouted, snapping his fingers in front of my face.
"I'm so sorry; I must have been in a daze," I shyly stated.
He smirked at the thought of him seeing what kind of effect he had on me.
"I see. Do you plan to tell me why you smell like another wolf? Am I going to have to think of ways to get you to speak," he stated with his deep Alpha voice. My wolf was going crazy right now, with his body against me.
It took everything I had not to submit to him and let him take me.
"Jason is a friend of mine from when we were younger; he's from my old pack," I told him as I looked directly in his eyes to show him I was not afraid of him but not too authoritative to forget he was an alpha. I could tell that he tended to use his Alpha voice when he got irritated or ma or even sexually frustrated, but I was not going to show him that it affected me both good ways and bad.
"I came to the market to get some groceries for our apartment. I am cooking dinner tonight for my roommate and me," I said as I tried to break the awkward silence.
"Let me take you home; you shouldn't be walking alone on such a busy street" he smoothly let his words roll off his tongue.
You can take me home anytime I thought to myself. It was like Elijah could read my mind; he watched me with his smile getting bigger by the second.
I stared at him as we walked over to the sidewalk, to which he stopped when we reached a motorcycle.
"Your mood swings are killing me. You need to chill out. Jason is nothing but an old friend of mine and like a brother to me. I will not choose him over you, nor will you disrespect him either. Do you got that?" I said to him with a stern voice, hoping he wouldn't yell at me.
"You are my mate, Elijah, not Jason. I would never hurt you like that, but I will also not be treated poorly by you for having him as a friend," I said with such finality in my voice.
Although Elijah and I knew we were mates just from the encounter of my interview, we had both yet to surrender to each other.
I can't help but enjoy the thought of becoming a Luna and having another pack to call home and family. That would have to wait for now. First, I had to get to know this so-called asshole of a mate that everyone seemed to think he was.
"I understand Julia; I apologize for my reaction. I would like to meet your friend." he lowered his head as he felt defeated.
"I can arrange one day when we all are not tied up with work and other responsibilities to go out and have lunch together."
I put my groceries into his saddlebag on his motorcycle side and began putting the spare helmet he had on.
I never thought in a million years that someone with such class and riches would be a bad boy rebel.
We made it to the front of my apartment to drop me off. I grabbed the things I bought at the grocery store and made my way inside as I glanced back, noticing him drive off.
"Until we meet again, Mr. Price," I eagerly said to myself as I bit down on my bottom lip.
I walked inside and found Cat at the kitchen bar. It seemed like every time I saw her; she was sitting at the bar with a drink in her hand.
"What's up, alchy?" I teased her.
"You're funny, Jules. I just finished up with a three-hour shoot and decided I would get off early to come home and freshen up before we went out tonight."
"Yeah, I need a drink, for sure. I ran into Elijah at the market. He got angry at me because he could smell Jason on me. I hugged him; of course, he's going to have his scent on me. I know Elijah is my mate, but Jason is like a brother to me, and I could never do Elijah that way, nor Jason."
I felt frustrated and irritated that he would act that way, but he needed to chill.
I decided to take my mind off all the jealousy issues and start dinner. When it finished cooking, Cat and I sat down to take a moment and enjoy the peace.
I cleaned up the kitchen, put the leftovers away, and walked upstairs to get ready to go out. I never went out, so I decided to spice it up and look sexy. I had a few cocktail dresses that I had purchased on sale last year that I never got the opportunity to wear.
I went with the maroon satin spaghetti strap dress; still had the tag on it. I slipped it on, fitting comfortably against my body. I glanced at myself in my body mirror. The hem of the dress came up above my knee far enough to be noticed that it was short but not too short. The top portion of it fit my bust line just right where I didn't even have to wear a bra. I looked damn good. I walked over to my closet to find my maroon matching heels. They were not as thick, so I wouldn't have to worry about breaking my neck in them as I tried to walk.
Catalina came out of her room wearing an emerald green cocktail, skin-tight dress with her matching stilettos. She looked good in green. It made her eyes pop, and her skin glow.
"Damn Jules, you clean up good, girl."
"You too, Cat. That dress looks amazing on you," I told her. We grabbed our purses and keys and got in the car.
"Here's to a night out with just us girls." She high-fived me and started the car.
