In the Beginning
Stacy's POV “She was with the rogue wolves,” Laura flared with anger, as she barked her accusations of me, audibly to my father's hearing. “She was being passed around from one to another…” “Stop it, Laura!” I yelled in my defense, as those words were far too unbearable for me to hear. I had never set foot outside the pack, let alone mingle with the rogues. But then, my father and my stepmother would always believe Laura over me, even if my life was at stake. Even though my father, Callum, was the alpha of the pack, he seemed to have lost the will to say no to whatever Laura had to say. “Shut up, you filthy slut,” Laura kept me mute with that. “I have evidence, of course. You were too stupid to cover your tracks while doing something as shameful as that.” Everyone looked in anticipation, as Laura took out her phone. More than what she was up to, I was wondering what exactly she was trying to prove to everyone. “Here…” she turned the phone to my father, and my stepmother, not even giving me a chance to see what was being used against me. The sounds of the passionate moans of a female voice broke the silence. It sounded like the girl in the video was having the time of her life, being plowed by several men who were grunting intermittently in the background. My father, Callum, stared at me with a look of disapproval. I wondered how Laura had made such a video, and gotten them to believe it, as my father walked closer to me, in a way that made his intentions clear. “Father, I swear I that wasn't me. She's just—” Before I could explain my defense, he mowed me down with a gruesome slap that almost made my neck snap. “Don't you dare refer to me by that, you worthless slut,” my father had never sounded so hateful to me. “From now on, you refer to me as ‘alpha’. Is that clear?” “Yes… fath—” I was on my knees when I received yet another slap that almost had me out of my body. “There's no way in the purple moon I could be a father to a slut. You're no different from your mother—” “But, alpha…” I muttered, almost forgetting that I had just interrupted the alpha of the Blue Crescent Pack, “Could you ask Laura where she has been all through yesterday's eve—” “Shut your mouth, you filth! How dare you interrupt the alpha?” Laura cut in, taking away my only chance to explain myself. Suddenly, she grabbed my hair as I was on my knees, while my father watched, doing nothing to keep his daughter from such pain. “I will not have you using my father in such a manner,” Laura said, mercilessly pulling at my hair. “Not with those lips you used in pleasing those rogues…” With that, she pushed me face-first to the floor. “How could you do this, knowing that you're about to get married to Ronan?” my father continued the questioning, as I managed to get on my knees again. “Is that how badly you want to escape this engagement and ruin all our plans?” “Father… alpha… I swear on my mother's grave that I didn't do anything of that sort. There had to mistake somewhere…” “I knew you never wanted to get married to Ronan. But you have gone too far this time,” my father didn't seem ready to listen to anything I had to say. “You had one chance to be of use to me, and you are trying to ruin it for all of us.” “I promise, alpha, I didn't—” “Shut it, slut!” my stepmother, Lynne, snapped at me. “Too bad you're so weak in strength, and also weak in your will as well. Of what use for you be to the Blue Crescent Pack?” Having all three of them surrounding me and saying all those malicious words to me had me remembering when my childhood bullies were. They would have surrounded me, just like they were doing at the moment, and take turns with me. Too bad, I had to suffer the same fate at home. “Consider yourself fortunate that eyes of this haven't gotten it yet. I would have killed you myself,” my father grunted angrily at me. “Your wedding with Ronan will happen in two days, no matter what sort of games you try to play.” “Good riddance,” Lynne, remarked, as she walked out of the room with my father, leaving me all alone with her despicable daughter. “I warned you, Stacy,” Laura waited until everyone left before she began whispering those words in my ears. “I warned you not you try telling them about my outing last night, but you didn't listen.” At that point, I felt like punching her in the face. But she put her hand on my throat, as though she wanted to come the very life out of me. “This will be the last time you'll ever try stepping on my toes…” she breathed her threats without letting me breathe for a moment. “Happy married life in advance…” she mocked, as she let me go, and hurriedly followed her mother. For the next hour, I lay alone on the floor of my room crying my eyes dry, until I made up my mind that I wasn't going to end up just like they wanted. I stood to my feet and made for my window. That time, I would be taking matters into my own hands, as I decided to go see the one person who had always been on my side in the entire pack. Finn was not just my boyfriend, but my only friend. On the day my wedding to the ruthless Lycan king had been announced, we decided that we both would be running away from the pack a few days before the wedding. But then, I wanted it to happen that night. I had simply had enough of the hard living with a family that detests me. I couldn't wait one more second, as I made my way out through the window. The moment I got out of home, I began dialing his number desperately, as I didn't want to waste one more moment. My tension grew as I didn't get any response from his end. With that, I hastened my footsteps to his home, as I couldn't afford to be seen by anyone that night. That would be even more disastrous. “Here we are…” I said as the door of his home came into view. Even as the beta's son, he lived all alone, and apart from his family. That gave us all the privacy we needed. To my utter disbelief, I found his front door open. That was so unlike him, and that made me wonder if he had been in danger. That could have been why he hadn't answered my calls. At the height of my curiosity and desperation, I quietly pushed the door and tiptoed into his living room. In like manner, I made my way to his room, as that was where he usually was. My mind would know no rest until I saw his face. I wanted to barge into his room and drag him out so we could hit the road already. “Finn, where have you been? I've been calling…” I stopped halfway, as I was met head-on, by the last sight I was expecting to see. “Laura…?” It felt like my heart stopped for a moment.
