Drake put up a hand to stop her. “Why, of course, yes. The contract was clear. You act as my girlfriend for two years, I take care of your mother. If you want to break the contract, then you have to refund everything I've ever spent on your mother!”

“You can forget any further funds from me for her treatment too,” he added coldly.

........

He's a billionaire CEO. A workaholic who lacks social skills and wasn't interested in them till he met her. He's obsessed with giving the perfect image.

When he asks her to be his fake girlfriend, she agrees. She's been crushing on him for a long time, so why not?

As time passed however, she realized she was no more than a toy, someone he showed off and doted on in public to keep up his image.

When the news of his engagement to another lady makes the air, she couldn't bear it any longer and demands out. Only...she was owing him a lot of money, and he wasn't letting her go till she's paid them.

How much is love really worth? If only she knew how much he really loved her. If only she knew a billion dollars is nothing compared to his love for her. But no matter, he's out to show her.

Chapter1
1 Janet's POV It has been a long day. It has been a long week. It has been a long two months of agony, waiting for any word for Drake. It has been exactly two months since we finally took the next logical step in our relationship. The step that would finally take it from a fake, contractual boyfriend-girlfriend relationship to a real one. Only that, since then, Drake had gone completely silent. No calls, no texts, no w******p, not even a pigeon. Just a flower on the day after we took the step. And then complete silence. I tried to be cool about it, telling myself he was extremely busy with managing the takeover. He has been flying around the world so far after all, he wouldn't have time for me. But deep down, it hurt. It hurt that he just forgot about me after what we shared. I felt like he just used me to relieve his excitement, and then cast me back to my abhorred role of his fake girlfriend. I felt bitter, blaming myself for building my castles in the air. I should have known that all Drake ever saw and cared about was work and even more work. But to be fair, why would I? When he looked at me, it seemed I was all he saw. His gaze burned with intense passion. And when we kiss…oh my God! It was pure bliss. The passion, the emotion. It was enough to sweep any girl off her feet. The way he would hold me, the way he would linger. They all spoke of repressed emotions, one he wouldn't want to break the contract terms by allowing to surface. But when he wasn't looking at me? Well, I felt more insignificant than a grain of sand next to a diamond. Not now though. Right now, the agony is gone and the waiting is over. And once again, I was feeling like the only woman in his world. I had just gotten a call from Drake that he was coming back to the country after two months of conferences and meetings around the world. And would you know, he asked me to come over! He wanted me to prepare his food. It was Friday night and his return time was scheduled around 9 in the night, which meant I would be sleeping over at his house if I went. He had never asked me to sleep over at his house, so I was understandably excited. I knew his favorite food even though he never told me. As I knew so many other things about him. I shook my head and giggled. I was hopelessly in love. And it felt good that it was finally being returned. Soon, I was done with the cooking. I looked at the clock and saw it was just a few minutes to nine. I sighed with relief. Drake's perfectionist fetish was widely known. If he said he would be there at nine, then he would be there at nine and not a second later. It was good I had his dinner ready. I sat on the couch, waiting excitedly. I was all ready to welcome him home with a kiss and a tight hug, like any girlfriend would. However, for the first time, Drake was late. It was already thirty minutes past nine and he wasn't here. He hadn't called either. Worried, I dialed his number. But it went straight to voicemail. My heart sank. Voicemail was for those he didn't want to take their calls. I waited up for him till it was almost midnight. Then feeling like a fool, I went to bed. Once again, I had built my castles in the air. Like I have been doing throughout the one year and five months of our fake relationship. I knew he had just been putting up an act for the benefit of whoever happened to be with him at that time. I knew because the only time he ever looked at me like I was the only one he saw was when we were out in the public. In private, he was colder than space and barely acknowledged my presence. Trouble was, we were out in the public eye very much. Who would blame me for dreaming? But what made it hurt more was that he never even bothered to call and tell me to not bother myself. It felt like I wasn't worth the time or effort. When I woke up the next day, my head hurt from crying. I had cried myself to sleep. Smiling bitterly, I microwaved the food I had prepared for him and got ready to leave. Suddenly, my phone rang. The caller ID showed it was Drake. Hope flared in my heart. Maybe he was too busy and forgot to call. Or maybe, he had been dead tired after the flight and couldn't call. Maybe, just maybe, he was calling to apologize. “Hello, would you be at my house by six today? Mr Greene is coming over for dinner and would love to meet my beloved girlfriend. So, put on your best girlfriend act.” Two beeps followed, telling me the call had been disconnected. I smiled bitterly. It was so like Drake. He hadn't even exchanged greetings or waited for me to acknowledge the order. Once again, he was taking it for granted that I would do as I was told. And why wouldn't he? He held all the power in the relationship after all. Suddenly, my phone rang again. This time, it was Mara, my best friend and the only one that had remained a friend after my relationship with Drake became widely known. “Hey, baby girl. What's up with you and your boyfriend? Are you alright?” she asked. I frowned. “What do you mean?” There was a pause. “Well, I just saw you on the news and –” “That's nothing new,” I interrupted her. I was almost always trending. The media never failed to remind netizens everyday that I was just a gold digger, looking to get the most she can out of Drake. I don't blame them for thinking that way. Drake spent lavishly on me and thoroughly doted on me as far as the public knew. I had gone from being the new girl in the art department of one of the branches of his company to being his personal assistant at the headquarters. And I hadn't even finished college. Only I knew that it was just for appearances sake. Drake doesn't care a bit about me, as his recent attitude showed. “Yeah, nothing new. Except –” Mara paused. “Wait…don't tell me you don't know? He didn't tell you? Wait, lemme understand. You mean to tell me you don't know your boyfriend just got engaged to Trista, the celebrity actress?” I froze. The world seemed to spin around me. My heart missed a beat. “You're lying,” I replied. But my voice shook as I tried to stop myself from screaming. I didn't want to believe it, but Mara has no reason to lie to me. “Gosh! You really don't know?” Mara sounded disbelieving. “It's all over the news! This acco unt I follow on X –” Trying hard to keep the tears at bay, I cut the call and quickly opened X.
