CHAPTER TWO

ARTEMIS' POV CONTINUES I slowly opened my eyes. I had a terrible headache. 'It was a dream, right?' I thought, slowly gaining consciousness, 'It had to be a dream,' The high ceilings already didn't look familiar and reality soon began to set in. 'It wasn't a dream,' It didn't take long for my eyes to meet the door, and although my head was banging, I stood to rush to the door. I was pulled back by chains, bounding my hands to the bed. 'Mother was right, I should never have gone beyond the pines,' Tears welled in my eyes and I slowly fell back into the bed. It seemed like midday from the window and I knew my mother must have returned and would be worried sick about me. It wasn't long before the door flung open and my eyes caught the most gorgeous man I had ever seen. He was 6 '5 tall, had black, thick hair, shiny brown skin, and midnight black eyes. He had a broad chest and muscular arms to go with his height, a literal Greek god! I forgot all about being in captivity, gushing over his physique and staring at him with dreamy eyes. A maid followed behind him with a food tray. "For a while, I thought you'd sleep all day," he said. His voice was hoarse and deep and I sunk further into mushiness. The maids laid the food on the table beside the bed and left, after bowing to him. "Eat," he said. 'Bossy,' his tone was harsh and commanding. He sat a distance across from me and stared at me. I looked down slightly at the chains that held my hand. I was never one to be expressive. I only spoke to my mother and the new environment and conditions had me all folded up. I could see the anger in his eye roll before he moved to unchain me. I placed the tray on a pillow and onto my lap and delved into my meal. I was starving. I was halfway through my meal when a knock came on the door. "Alpha Damian," a call followed, "Come in," He ordered, "The pack officials are here," the young man walked in and said, "matters demanding your urgent attention, Alpha," He sounded pretty urgent and serious, and just like that, my Greek god left in a hurry, leaving me unchained. I quietly placed the food on the table and scaled out the window. I landed on the floor with a heavy thud, but luckily, unscathed. It was a huge house, but I had no time to admire it. I made straight for the woods. I ran as fast as my little legs could carry me until the huge house was out of sight. I found myself roaming the woods, helpless. I walked around for hours until the sun had begun to set. 'Thank God I had something to eat,' I said, under my breath. It took me another three hours to locate a small cottage buried deep in the woods. It wasn't home, but at least I was far from danger. Although I didn't miss any part of the few hours I was in captivity, I couldn't get the image of Alpha Damian out of my head. I thought of him as dreamy. "Hello?" I called inquisitively, as I arrived at the cottage. It was quiet and had no signs of anyone. I knocked on the door and after knocking twice, the door slowly opened itself. I was gripped by fear, but 'nothing could be worse than being captured by two monsters, right?' I walked into the cottage, slowly and quietly. Everything in it was made of wood and the cottage did not have a lot of furnishing. A chair, table, and a small bed only enough for a twelve-year-old. I fell freely into the bed, feeling very exhausted from the hours of walking and running for my life. My stomach was rumbling but I just laid still, hoping to wait till morning for a miracle to take me back to my mother. ******************************** I opened my eyes to a blurry image standing over me. "Mother?" I questioned my sight, as I jumped back into full consciousness. She seemed to not pay any attention to my calls and just went ahead with her business. I tried to get out of bed and found I was tied to the little bed. "Mother?" I called again, struggling to free myself from the many ropes. "Is that you? How did you find me?" I threw numerous questions. "Oh, Artemis, always so sweet, so naive," she turned around with an evil grin. Her eyes were green and her face looked paler than usual. Her wrinkles had doubled and her two forward teeth had grown into fangs. I screamed at the top of my voice. She held her hands upward and the small cottage disappeared, leaving me firmly bound to a large wood. Mother had pots of boiling potions all around me, and with the cottage gone, I could see the full moon shining brighter than usual. She chanted some spells in a language I hadn't heard before and I soon began to feel weak and grew weaker with every passing second. "Who are you?" I questioned, gradually feeling life slipping out of me. I had no idea what Mother was doing, but I felt it was my very end. "Margaret, You old witch!" Damian burst into the scene from the woods. "Stay out of this, Alpha," Mother warned. I had no idea her name was Margaret, or that she was a witch. Damian launched an attack on Mother and I couldn't tell how that went since I slipped into unconsciousness, being that Mother's spells had me drained.
