ARTEMIS' POV
Not only was I heartbroken and weak, I had nowhere else to go. I couldn't locate my way back to the village, and if I did, I wasn't accepted there.
Damian had also asked her mother, Margaret, to run far away and never return.
'She was going to use me for some sort of sacrifice,' I was having a hard time taking it all in.
'Why?' I thought she loved me. She was the only family I had known all my life. Sure maybe a little too old to be my birth mother, but that never bothered me, her love was all I needed and it was enough for me.
"Stay away from me, you're a monster,'' I shriveled in bed as I stared at Damian.
His eyes showed obvious disgust and anger.
"Yeah, sure," he replied with a sarcastic eye roll and moved closer to me.
"Stay away from me, you monster!" I yelled.
"Monster?" He questioned in a harsh tone.
I was thrown into immediate silence.
"You're a f*****g monster too," he yelled into my face, "just unfortunate to have grown up in the hands of that hundred-and-twenty-five-year-old witch," his tone grew thinner.
I gulped in a large amount of my saliva. I sat there thinking about what he just said. That would explain why I never fit in anywhere.
Damian's right-hand man however shared similar striped hair as me, only in different colors. His hair color also reflected the color of his monster.
'Who am I?'
*********"**********************************
"Artemis, you're on chore duty," the head maid announced to me, for the fourteenth morning on the sixteenth day since I woke up.
I took a deep breath and got to work. While the other maids got days off to go about their businesses, I tended the pack house as a maid day in, day out.
I had attempted to speak with Damian about the unfair treatment, but every time I tried, he wouldn't as much as see me.
'Run away,' a voice sounded in my head.
"What? Who are you?" I queried out loud. I knew the voice of my thoughts, and this was not it. This felt different and new, like a different person living in me.
I stood still with a broom in my hands, waiting to hear her again, but she never said another word.
"I must be imagining things now," I said under my breath, sighed, and continued with my chores, which was all I ever did around here.
"I'm so sorry," I apologized as I crashed into a tall man, doing my chores and lost in thoughts. I had my face on the ground the whole time since I was too shy to see his face.
"You need help with that?" His deep voice came quite tenderly, followed by a chuckle.
'how could he be so calm? I just spilled water on him,' as far as I knew, there weren't any nice people out here.
Back with Margaret, I didn't fit in, here where I should, they only took advantage of my ignorance and weak, dominant human nature. They were truly monsters.
The man slowly lifted my face, until we locked eyes. I recognized him as Damian's right-hand man.
"I don't think we've officially been introduced yet," he said, "Lucien," he extended a handshake.
"Uhm…" I was dumbstruck, besides, my hands were covered in filth. He on the other hand looked amazing in his warrior outfit, but for the water I just spilled on him.
"I…"
'Common say something,' I scolded myself, 'he's a friend, this is not the time to be unresponsive, Artemis,' my voice was only as loud in my head.
"Artemis, right?" He said.
I nodded affirmatively, grateful that he had seen through me and helped me out. Although I couldn't wave away what major embarrassment this was.
We stared at each other for a while, and I could feel our souls connecting.
I had always admired his black and white striped hair, he packs in a ponytail and muscular build-up, but now I was looking into his ocean blue eyes and how perfectly they matched his fair skin.
I only got to take a glimpse of him from a distance and marveled at how, despite being different from the other wolves, he blended in perfectly, while still standing out. He was loved by pretty much everyone in the pack and no one ever spoke of his difference as a weakness.
"Lucien," came a hoarse voice, interrupting the peace I was getting lost in.
"You'd lead a team of hundred on border patrol today," Damian announced to him, not taking cognizance of my presence, "I think I'd sit today out, I don't feel too good," he added.
"Alright, Alpha,'' Lucien responded.
"Beta duties," he turned to me and said with a smile. He kissed the back of my hand, bowing his head, just before he left.
All my insides were screaming in excitement. I watched him with dreamy eyes as he walked past Damian and until he was out of sight.
"You seem to have plenty of free time on your hands," Damian came down heavy on me, immediately Lucien was gone,
"Uhm…no sir… I was just…" I tried to be defensive but failed terribly at it. All my words translated to stuttering and stammering.
"Follow me," Damian ordered.
