A Mangled Union- Damien

1680 Words
Damien What the hell? Why can’t I sleep? Lunch can’t still be bothering me. That meeting didn’t go how I wanted. I wanted my mate. I knew I felt her. Hunter felt her. Why wasn’t she there? Where did she go? Could she be a Rogue? I rolled over and checked the time. 2 a.m. Seriously? I can’t function this way. I need sleep! Whatever. If I can’t sleep, I might as well train. I got dressed and walked to the gym. I ran my usual 5 miles but it didn’t feel like enough. I might as well do another few. Goddess, I hate that Alpha Felix. I know I can’t trust him at all. What is my plan for a response? Do I want to tell him a higher number, or should I just walk away and count my blessings for not having to associate with him? It’s not like we need the money, but if I don’t use that facility for something, it doesn’t make sense to leave it standing. We could use the money towards building a new school building or housing for families and warriors. I want my mate. I want someone to talk to about these plans. Someone to help mold the future of the pack. What the f**k am I going to do? I felt a tap on my shoulder. SLAM. “Sorry man didn’t mean to scare you. Didn’t you hear me?” “Obviously not, Max!” I said getting off the floor. I can’t believe I fell. “How long have you been here? Holy s**t man, this says 20 miles. What’s wrong?” Max asked. “I don’t know. I can’t sleep, I can’t settle down. I feel like I can feel her, but I can’t…. I don’t know.” “We will figure it out. But seriously, if you’re going to run that much, let’s do it outside and let our wolves out!” “Yeah, maybe tomorrow night.” “Sounds good!” said Max, smiling. “It’s been too long since we ran!” Two days passed the same way. No sleep, running in the gym, feeling my mate, not feeling my mate, wanting my mate… We hadn’t let our wolves out since Max’s twins came down with a cold and he spent all his time helping Angie care for and clean up after them. I shouldn’t be annoyed, but now I have his work on top of everything else. I’ve got to get out of this house! I walked up the stairs of the pack house to the Beta apartment. After knocking, Angie opens the door looking as exhausted as I feel. “Hey, Damien, you okay?” asked Angie. “Yeah. Hey, Angie, I’m so sorry to ask. I know you guys have a lot going on, but I’ve got to get out of the house and run. Any chance you can spare your mate?” “Of course. Please take him. I’m not used to having him around all the time and he’s driving me crazy.” “Who is driving you crazy?” asked Max, coming around the door. “You are!” shouted Angie. She sounds annoyed, but I know she loves him. “Wanna run?” I asked. “Absolutely! I can’t be in this house anymore!” “Have fun boys.” said Angie, reaching up to kiss Max. “Wanna come, Angie? I should have already asked. I’m sorry. We can get an Omega to sit with the kids, or I’m sure my mom would.” “Another time. I’m exhausted and just want to relish SILENCE.” She said, smiling at Max. After she closes the door, Max and I walk down the stairs and outside. “Hey, Alpha!” said Julian, my Gamma. He and a group of warriors were heading back after a night I can assume they spent at the bar. “Where are you guys heading?” “A run. Wanna come?” I asked. “Hell yeah, it's been awhile since you wanted to run, Alpha. None of us got lucky, so we’ve got a bit of frustration to run off.” I rolled my eyes and we walked toward the woods. “You guys want to hike up to the River Run Trail, then shift?” I asked. “Sounds good to me.” Says Max, leading the way up through the forest. “Man, I haven’t ran that trail in a long time,” said Julian. “Me either. I used to run it with my dad all the time. I just feel drawn to it tonight. So how was the bar?” I asked. “The bar? Now, Alpha, surely you think more highly of us than to think we would spend a Tuesday evening at a BAR.” Julian laughs. I laugh and we keep climbing. The path up to the river Run Trail is a mix of boulders and dirt. It’s not hard, more meandering, but it’s peaceful and has some of the best views in the territory. We got to the trailhead of the river run and I started to take off my shirt in order to shift. We are all sweating from the hike and with the winter cold and snow, we all have steam rolling off us. I freeze hearing the sound of crunching snow. The cold air carries sound further, but I know it’s getting closer. It’s definitely close, and there’s multiple sets of feet. All of us are now on alert. “What the hell? Rogues?” mutters Julian. “Not rogues. Crescent Pack.” Says Max. “Why the f**k are they running toward our territory?” I asked rhetorically. “MATE!” screamed Hunter in my head. “My mate. Are they chasing her? Oh, Hell no!” We raced toward her. I see her stumbling. I will f*****g rip them all to shreds. Why is she stumbling? What did they do to her? I get to her first and she crashes into me. She’s a bruised, bloody mess. Her blonde hair looked almost auburn from staining. My warriors form a defensive line between the two of us and the advancing members of the Crescent Pack. Her eyes met mine. Goddess they were a beautiful deep green with a magnetizing pull. I was lost drowning in them. Only the pain they reflected brought me out of my daze. “THE DEVICE! MY ARM! CUT IT OUT!” She screams. What? I looked down and saw a lump on her left arm. She’s holding her hand just beneath it. I ripped off her lace shirt sleeve, revealing a barely healed slice in her arm with a hard rectangular shape beneath. What the hell is this thing? Just then, her body flails and she screams out in pain. “What’s going on?” Yells Max back to me. “There’s something in her arm. I think that’s why she’s in pain. I need to cut it out.” I feel Hunter taking over. My claws come out of my right hand and I slice open my mate’s arm as gently as I can and remove the device. It’s just a black box but has a small clear tube coming out of it. My mate is in my arms writhing in pain; the snow around her turning red. f**k. I picked up fresh snow and packed it on her wound, trying to stop some of the bleeding. “Here they come, Damien. What’s your move?” asks Max. “Todd, Levi, take my mate back to the clinic. Don’t stop for anything. Link the doctor on the way.” They shift. I place my mate's now unconscious body on Levi’s back and they take off down the mountain. When the members of the Crescent Pack see her taken away, they try to turn in retreat. “Shift!” I yelled at Julian and Max. “We don’t stop until we have them. I don’t care how far into their territory they get.” I headed straight for them with Max on my right and Julian on my left. There are four of them and we are about to leave the grace area between pack lands we established to help mitigate rogue issues. Much further and we would officially be invading the Crescent Pack. I didn’t care. I would send my whole army if need be. They weren’t getting away with it. The cowards attempted to spread out but Max and Julian were the fastest wolves in our pack besides me. They each took off, pushing the smaller wolves back towards the large one in the center that I was locked on. I had seen Alpha Felix in wolf form before, so I knew it wasn’t him, but by the size, it could be his Beta. We cover the ground quickly and overtake them just before the blue-painted trees they used to mark their border. I had tackled the large brown wolf in the center. He attempted to s***h at my face, but I bit into his shoulder hard, causing him to yelp loudly and fall to the ground. I shift and stare them down, Max and Julian still snarling at them in wolf form. “Shift back!” I roared in my most authoritative alpha command I’ve ever manifested. Immediately, they shift to human form, revealing Beta Jeremy and three young warriors. “Do we kill them or take them?” Max asks through our link. “Take them!” I said out loud, not bothering with a link. They both shift back. I take their Beta, Julian takes a warrior, and Max has the other two. One who looks completely willing to come with us. “Hmm…. Alpha, so you were drawn to the little bitch.” Says their Beta. The young warrior with Max lets out a low growl. I punch the Beta in the back of the head and he hits the ground. “I’ll f*****g drag him.” I said.
