Let us look to the future together

POV: Alpha Oliver Stunned, confused, and lost, these emotions seemed to linger around my boys. Even their younger sister could not cheer them up. I can't blame them though, their mates are the wild twins of Lern. As much as I am happy that my boys have a mate, neither have to share, will it last? At this point, I don't think so. These twins are not even something we understand. They didn't even seem to notice they were mates. Is the mate bond not a thing for their kind? Whatever their kind is? My boys seemed to be nodding off, the mental strain of waiting all day to listen in on the promised call. It is now 10 pm, my wife, my boys, my daughter, Kevin and I all sit in my office just waiting to call them. "You children can take a nap. I will wake you when I call," I said. I try not to allow pity to show in my eyes. "Dad, I can't sleep, what if they never want to be our mates?" Elle sounds so unsure. Usually, Elle or Elliote is full of confidence, loud, and energetic. Now his bluish-green eyes are staring at me with fear in them. His brother Eli, or Elijah, stares at me with the same look in his greenish blue eyes. My boys are beautiful and identical in every physical way except for their eyes. Their usually bright eyes look so dull now. Before I could answer, my office phone rings, surprising me out of my thoughts. "Hello?" I say picking up the phone. It's only 10:10 pm I am unsure who else would call me, but it is early yet for the twins. "You can put it on speaker, I am assuming you have a bunch of listeners in the room as we do", Minreila's voice came through. I can't fault her for her rude greeting, as I was not proper in mine. "She said I could put it on speaker," I say after I put it on speaker. "I want to start by saying it was very rude to barge into our pack, then be loud enough to wake my sister and I. I understand we might have different habits than you, but we have never done anything so disrespectful in your pack. What do you think our pack members will think when you do things like this?" Minrowen is now speaking instead. I still feel like someone is feeding him these lines, but who? "Why do you only speak?" I am so curious. "This is a question I will not be answering. Do you wish to answer ours, or shall we continue?" Minrowens voice waivers slightly after pausing for so long, someone is feeding him lines. "My boys smelt their mates' do you know how rare it is for twin wolves to find their mate?" "I am aware that in the shifter community, especially twins have a hard time finding a mate and usually, instead, each mark one themselves. I believe this is because twins with destined mates usually only get one, and this can lead to fighting. Thus, it was assumed the Goddess of your kind decided not to give twins destined mates anymore or to keep them separate. Thus, it is rare for twin shifters to find mates. Is this correct?" Minrowen is calm again "If you understand, then you should understand why we came over." The look my boys are giving me is utter shock at how I am talking to the twins. "Let me get this straight, because you, the king of Alphas, have a set of twin boys who smell their mate on a different packs' lands get to waltz in like you own it?" He has a point "No you are right, I am sorry" "We are sorry too" "Yeah." My boys get up and walk close to me and the phone. "Understood, we also were not very mature in the situation. Not having slept for 48 hours is not a good enough excuse. We also apologize." Minrowen sounds sincere. Was this the plan from the start of the conversation? "What do you suppose we do about this?" I speak what everyone in the room has been mind-linking me to say since the phone call started. "We were kind of hoping to deal with the meeting about our pack first. Our pack is important to us, and there is not a real set president for how two alphas who become mates deal with that" Minrowen yawns "You are right, usually the female moves to the males' pack, or allows the males's pack to absorb theirs if they are the last in the Alpha line" The boys seem pleased with this. "I refuse to give my pack up, or leave it, so what do you suppose we do about this?" Minreila, making another appearance. "Can't we figure that out later?" Eli leans over to speak "No, this is a line I don't wish to move. Wouldn't it be easier for you if we didn't get too far involved with each other if neither want to relent their pack and become the other lunas?" Minrowen is speaking again. I am almost sure it's Minreila feeding him lines now, even if they have thrown me off the scent before. I wonder why they do that. Everyone sees the female Alpha as a scary but mindless girl. Is there a plan I can't grasp? I should consult Kevin later about it. "I don't mind becoming your Luna, our pack has our younger sister to continue the Alpha line, your pack has no one" Elijah has always been a level-headed boy, but Elliott is usually hot-tempered. "No way, who said your pack is even going to exist after you meet with the council?" Yes, hot-tempered enough to spit an almost threat at his potential mate. "Well, Elijah, you are welcome to visit and talk with Minrowen about how you two would like to deal with this development after we have our meeting with King Alpha Oliver" Minreila sounds almost cold when she speaks again. "Elliote I would rather not be attached to a sexist mate, who would think it is okay to belittle my pack, while he doesn't even have the title of Alpha to his own pack" "When would you like to book the meeting in front of the council ?" Elliote is too stunned to address her anyway. "What is the latest time you can book an appointment?" Minrowen was once again the speaker, but I swear I can hear the Duke scolding Minreila. "How about tomorrow at 8 pm?" It is already overdue, and no one has the 8 pm appointment tomorrow. "Alright, we can do that, this meeting will be at the council building in the capital, right? Not the one in the more northern country again, right?" Minrowen asks. "Yes, the one in the capital. I will see you tomorrow." "Goodbye Alpha Oliver have a lovely night" Minrowen almost sings as he hangs up the phone. At least he said goodbye. "Elliote you can not expect someone that has had their own pack since they were 10 to be okay with you assuming they will disband it just to be your mate", I scold my son. "It is not like she really runs it, Minrowen can run it and have Eli as his Luna! We can run ours. If they even vote to allow them to keep their pack", I might have spoiled my boys too much if he is speaking like this. "Just between us in this room, I suspect Alpha Minreila is the one that actually runs the pack. You even heard Alpha Minrowen say his sister wanted to know why you were there. Not to mention the way Alpha Minrowen pauses so much while he speaks." I pounder out loud. "Yes, Alpha. I suspected the same thing. It's almost as if they make her an easy target for outsiders. That way they can predict potential assaults, or possibly it makes it easier for Minreila to move around so to speak unnoticed by other packs. We didn't even think she was growing the prized medicine we needed, but she was and saved us at the break of winter in her 12th year. Often it is her we see leading while they walk, and I even suspected her faraway look wasn't real. This is what I have felt so far, not to mention the unbound fairy is always in her hair whispering in her ear. " Kevin speaks with a smile like he is proud I finically figured it out. "No no way, come on, I want my mate." Elliote sobs. "Then be nicer to her!" Elijah screams "I want my brother to be with us! I know we have separate mates, but we are all twins. I want us to live in the same pack, in the same home. Don't you know how lucky we are? Especially since I am gay and you are straight?" "Who said they would accept us anyway?" "SHUT UP!" "BOYS, bedtime, I think it would do you both good to watch the meeting tomorrow" With that, I ushered them off, cutting any more words off before they could be spoken. POV: Third person The min twins went about their business the same as before the call afterward. Their dad and mom were a bit concerned for them, especially having to wake up early the next day to have the meeting. They encouraged them to create this pack when rouges were left to flee or even enter the wildlands in fear of other packs not allowing them to live as they wanted. The twins had built a pack that was built on the nation's theme of democracy, even if there was a king. Most things were and always had been up to the people's representatives to decide. They worked well into the night, Minreila in the Alpha office finalizing paperwork while Minrowen worked in the lab. Soft explosions could be heard throughout the pack lands the members being used to them during the long winter nights. Alpha Oliver was left wondering why there were three seats behind their desk while he tried to sleep. His wife calking it up to Minreila, usually being in someone's lap or arms. This did not satisfy him though, as then there would still only need two chairs. The morning dawned as Minreila and Minrowen walked out of the wildlands, waving to the guards of the next-door Crystal lake pack. They saw Elijah and Elliote also toeing the line, eager to wave, only Minrowen waving back as Minreila walked away. POV: Minreila "This is going to be nice," I say as we walk up to the doors of the council, which still seemed way too big for our small hands. I guess it can't be helped. We were small for our age after all. "This day came so fast, are you two ready?" Our mother so kind, came today to support us this time. Humans are welcome in the audience nowadays. "Yes mommy", I heard my brother's voice melt into mine. We have always enjoyed speaking together. It felt right. "Especially since you and daddy support us so much." With this, we walk into the hall, eyes on us. Usually, a late appointment has almost no audience, but this time, the amphitheater was bursting with people. I quickly grabbed Minrowens hand. Neither of us enjoys people very much. I regret not being carried in already. However, it is time I showed Minrowen and I are equal Alphas. I acted the way I did before because we were both still too inexperienced and weak to fend off assignment attempts should they come on both of us. I made myself a target, and will always be known as it even if I reveal myself now. Our magic has been trained by the fae in the wildlands since we were 8 years old, and our bodies have been trained since Mr. Reynold came to us at 10 years old. We are now physically, and magically capable of defending ourselves, our family, and our pack. There is no reason for us to lie low anymore. "Welcome Alphas of the Fae Wolf pack. I am pleased you are dressed today. We would like to ask you questions then. We will hold a vote in person to legalize your pack, understand?" Alpha Oliver seems happy with our outfits, I can't blame him though. I think this is the first time he has seen us in long coats. Too bad for him, we both take our coats off to show off our swirl-patterned sleeveless tunics, and our thin pants. I swear I hear him sigh. "Acceptable King Alpha Oliver" "The first question posed to you is how do you humans have a mindlink?" Alpha Oliver smirks, he knows we have to answer his old question now. " Simply, we are Fox shifters, not humans, and thus have a mind link. Would you like me to prove it?" I ask. "Yes" came Crowley's voice. I shift into my blueish-silver fox in an instant jumping onto the table to stare at the council, then just as fast shift back to my human form. People gasped, not because I was naked as they expected me to be, but because I was now clothed in thin blue cotton pants, a tank top with swirls, and a huge bluish-silver fury boa that clung to me like a sash hiding my shirt almost completely. This is what happens now when we shift. Once we honed our magic, boas began to appear. When we shifted back to human form, we could easily use our magic to have them dissipate into thin air. We still didn't understand it, and using magic we stored a change of lightweight clothes in our bracelets that would automatically hag off our bodies when we shifted with enough magic left. "I am not sure what you are, as fox shifters used to freely roam in my childhood, and they were not as elegant as you. They were small, weak, and magicless. Perhaps you are a hybrid of shorts. Either way, I think this is proof enough that you two are qualified to run a pack. You radiate strength. I have no further questions", Crowley, now seated smiling at me warmly like he knows what we are even though we don't. "Hmm, that shows, actually answers and crosses off a lot of these questions. Could you give us a description of your pack and its hierarchy?" Alpha Oliver thumbs through, I assume, questions that were related to our ability to control supernatural beings. My brother and I in our fox form radiate power, there is no questioning it. "Our pack is the Fae Wolf pack. As you know, when we were children we were kidn*pped and taken to the wildlands. There we actually met and gained the friendship of Suflare, a fae of fire. She taught us that this world drains their kind for their magic by binding them, to move magic from them to the person that bound them. They die from this process. Instead, we made a pact with them. In exchange for their help in magic training and use, we would create a place where they are welcomed and free. Thus the Fae is part of our name. Next, we met rouges that had nowhere to go that just wanted to be free as well. Apparently, once rouges, when accepted into packs, are usually treated as slaves, or workers for years until they earn trust. We felt this was a bit wrong as well. We offered them a safe place, a family, thus the Wolf in our name. After we established more shifter types and other supernatural beings, alongside, a few humans came to our land. The front of our pack is a village on shared land with the Duke. This part has a few homes, but mostly is our commercial district, guest homes, and the temporary homes of the pack. It houses a small percentage of our pack. These are mostly the newer members whose homes have not been built yet. There are about 200 in total living in the commercial part of our pack. The rest of our pack, roughly 1200 more people, live in the wildland subdivisions. They can do this because we and the Fae work together to live alongside each other, and the other threats of the wildlands have been managed. There have been no issues. In the wildlands, we have not just made homes, but also a park, a community center that houses a library and pool, and even a school for extra lessons that are private for our pack. We have other things like warehouses and industrial buildings where pack members work. We are currently selling medicines and other plants under different names. We also sell a lot of jewelry, baked goods, clothes, and raw materials that are created from the wildlands. As the Alphas, we have a multi-million dollar business selling tech and social media solutions to marketing for businesses. We as a pack have not settled on a particular product to sell as we are still new. However, our magic moon stones seemed to be a hit. I brought one with me. This stone is a magic moonstone, made by our pack, as an eco-friendly alternative to flashlights for humans. As you can see, it emits light. It can be used by humans with no magic. The stone only needs to be left in the moonlight for 4 hours to fully charge. At a full charge, there are about 7-19 hours of light that can be beamed out like a flashlight to the desired brightness by thumbing the groves that are labeled. To summarize, our pack is a place for freedom, safety, and cooperation. Our Alphas are me and Minrowen. Our best in training are Kelly and Winstein, with Mr.Reynold being a temporary beta as he trains ours. We are training healer Marcus. We have an elder named Grace. She lives deep in the wildlands and has for well over 15 years, but has agreed to be a part of our pack. She currently lives in our subdivision in the wildlands but often travels to her old home. We also have a scout, hunter, warrior lead, and Assassin. For obvious reasons, I will not disclose their names at this time. The files given to the council have them though. Charlie is our delta, he is a human-wolf hybrid, and his human sister, Ila, is a secretary for our pack. Both are a great help to run our pack smoothly and, other than Alpha Oliver, everyone who calls is usually connected to one of them first. Are there any more questions about our pack?" It was a lot to say, but I maintained eye contact with Alpha Oliver the whole time. Even with his guards, he did not know how big we were or how many lived in the wildlands. We have basically built a small town in the wildlands. This was unheard of before but these parts are owned by no country and cover nearly half of our continent. It has been a lot of work over these past six years, but it was worth it. With this pack, we can focus on breaking our curse in a safe and happy place. We even built a temple for Levi and his friends in the wildlands, hoping to be able to speak to them through it one day. "Wow, I think I speak for this whole council when I say that answers all the questions we had" Alpha Oliver leaned back in his chair, opening the floor to everyone else. "Why is alpha Oliver the only one to directly connect to you when he calls," Keal, the 2nd warrior leader on the council, asks "Why does my Alpha have to go through others?" "Alpha Oliver saved us, brought us home in one piece. As children, we didn't even thank him. As a thank you, on the day we began our pack, we instructed our brother to give his friends, the Alphas boys, our direct line that rings to our office, greenhouse, and lab. If we don't pick up he too gets Ila or Charlie. As we make relationships and strong bonds with other Alphas, we will give out our direct line more often." Minrowen speaks clearly as I drink water. "Reasonable, I suppose" Keal nods "Are you two really wild?" A council gamma Lill asks. "Very, why else would we befriend fae, rouges, and establish a pack in the wildlands?" I smirk as Lills eyes go wide "Honestly though we can be a bit unstable due to the trauma we have endured, however, we will protect our pack and are stable in that sense. You can see our financials with some redaction, as well as other partly redacted documents in the packets we gave the council to prove this stability" "I have no further questions." "Anyone?" silence followed. "We will step out to vote now then". With this. They all left. I am worried. Do not worry, they can't deny us, Minrowen's mind links me. His boys want us as mates, he could influence the vote to get that wish. I mind linked back There's no answer. He knows I was right. POV: Alpha Oliver "Well everyone, is there anyone who wishes to deny the packs legalization?" Looking around the room, everyone was just as stunned as me. No one knew how much they had grown in six years until now. We could see on their pages they gave us that the pack is financially stable, with few internal and external issues. not to mention Alpha Minreila looks fierce and powerful in her fox form. "How did she shift with clothes on? Her old ones are still torn on the floor" Denzil, the council scout seems so lost as well. "Not sure, honestly." "I don't think any of us could deny the pack, they are occupying the wildlands which is part of no country. Our authority is valid only in the countries of the world, put in place by the leaders of these countries ten years ago officially." Cass, another gamma speaks the truth. We really have no authority in the wildlands right now. "That person, Grace, I know the children said well over 15 years,, however, it's been 115 years. She is a wolf-vampire hybrid like myself." Crowley speaks slowly "She was run out of her pack as a child, her mother dying when she was young. She ran into the wildlands years later when another pack decided they too did not want a hybrid female. She was barely a teenager, I wasn't run out myself for reasons I won't disclose. She was a kind child, I would love the chance to apologize to her. I always thought she survived." It is rare to see him get sentimental. "Raise your hands if you wish to deny the packs legalization" I speak, looking around no one has their hand raised. It would be too embarrassing to come back out after a few minutes, so instead, I let the council continue to maul over what they heard and saw today for a little longer. POV: Minreila Thirty minutes later I am being shaken awake by someone, Elliote? "Why are you touching me?" I don't mind his touch per say, but don't like what he wants as a mate. His black hair is a mess and he looks as tired as I feel. "I'm sorry your brother was freaking out, he couldn't wake you two so we said we would try" Looking around a bit more I see Jackson looking like he is going to kill me, Elijah wiping drool off Minrowen's face before I could laugh I feel Elliote wipe drool off my face. "Awake now?" Crowely laughs "Ah sorry, we hibernate and flip to nocturnal schedules for roughly a month sometimes two in the winter months. It can be hard on our bodies." I know it's an excuse but my eyes are barely open. "Wow, that's interesting it's like 3 am for you right now then?!" Raymond a council hunter member looks way too interested. "We have decided to allow your pack to become official, as long as you agree to follow the authority of the council like every other pack does" Alpha Oliver is wasting no time. "Agreed" Minrowen and I speak in unison. "Congrats then, Fae Wolf pack is now an official pack, whose Alphas are Minrowen and Minreila Davidson-Ienne" "Thank you" I couldn't keep my eyes open but I did hear Jackson say sorry for us. POV: Third Person After the twins fell asleep, and Jackson apologized to them as the council and the audience laughed it off. The twins were taken home. Jackson was pressured into letting the Alpha's twin boys ride with them, and staying in the Dukes' guest rooms while they waited for the twins to wake. They wandered the pack that was visible to the eye and not in the wildlands. The many people in attendance had already started to call the Fae Wolf Pack 'visible' and 'wildlands' when referring to the two parts of their pack. The twins rested well, with the scent of their mates lingering on them, even if they did not want to admit it.
