Chapter 7

Dominic's Office

Dominic was working on some files in his office when someone barged in suddenly. Dominic calmly looked up and saw that it was Carl. As soon as Carl entered , he shouted "Dominic, I am in trouble" he moved up and down looking distressed "Why do bad things keep happening to me these days? Why?" He said pointing to himself, looking like someone on the verge of tears.

Dominic folded his arms and asked "What is the matter?" Carl quickly sat opposite Dominic, resting his hand on the table, his gaze almost penetrating into Dominic "My dad's golden stuffs are all gone" "Golden stuffs?" Dominic asked cluelessly. "Yes, my dad's treasures. He had locked them up in a safe since forever and I guess only I know about it... I've been in debt since I lost that contract and I wanted to take out some stuffs to sell only to find out it's gone. Who could have stolen it? Dominic, who could have?"

Dominic sighed and said "I didn't know your dad had treasures he kept. Why don't you ask other relatives?"

"That is where the problem lies" Carl said "I don't think anyone else knows about the treasures. If I start asking them one by one and they find out my dad has been keeping valuables like that, they'll make a big deal out of it and condemn our family. They might even ask us to spit what we never swallowed. I'm telling you this, because you're rich enough to overlook these trivial things" Carl said as Dominic nodded slowly "I'm indeed rich enough to".

Carl was stunned by Dominic's acknowledgement "You being rich is not the problem now. How do I find out who stole the valuables?" "Since you said you can't afford to ask others one by one. I'm not sure on how to catch the thief." Carl sighed and collapsed on the chair.

"I need money, I seriously need money" Carl said as Dominic continued working. Then, Carl suddenly looked at him with one eye. Dominic who glanced at Carl saw the way he was staring at him and asked "What is it?"

Carl quickly put his hand on the table , moving closer and said "Can you give me a million?" "No" Dominic said abruptly as Carl scoffed "That was too fast. Did you already know I would ask that? Hey! Didn't your Lord, Jesus Christ say there is love in sharing?"

"There is indeed love in sharing. I can also share my Lord, Jesus Christ with you. Are you willing to accept Him, then the money?" Dominic said as Carl guffawed "Just say you do not want to give the money. Giving a condition before giving out money. So petty!"

"I'll have my assistant send you 2 million in the afternoon" Dominic said typing into the computer. "Woah! That much? You're not going to ask what I'll use it to do?" Carl asked as Dominic nodded slowly and said "Just see it as an allowance" "Oh my!" Carl exclaimed "Look at you suddenly acting like an elder brother" "I've always been your elder brother" Dominic answered.

"Don't think I'll add honorifics to your name because of this. Anyways, thank you. It's really nice to have a rich cousin like you. I love you" Carl said cupping his hand in the shape of a heart. "Will you leave already? You've gotten what you wanted. I don't think you came here to ask about how to catch a thief" Dominic said.

"Whatever you think. Anyways, I'm off. I'll call to remind you by afternoon in case you forget" Carl said and walked out. Dominic looked up and shook his head.

City A Church

Dominic had just arrived at the church and parked his car. Many other people were entering the church for the mid-week service too. Dominic was about to enter the church when he caught a glimpse of a lady walking majestically towards him. He looked up expectantly, but his eyes dimmed when he saw that it was Annabel.

When Annabel saw the expression on his face she was stunned and quickly rushed up to meet him, then held his arm and said "Dominic, did you just look at me expectantly?" Dominic looked away and said "No, you've misunderstood".

Annabel faced down looking remorseful "I'm sorry, I traveled without notifying you earlier. My grandfather just had me visit him and I came back as soon as I could" "You traveled?" Dominic asked. Annabel was stunned and threw his arm away "I sent you text messages. Even though, you did not reply, do not tell me you did not view them at all" "My phone is usually with my assistant" Dominic answered. "And now? Is it with your assistant?" "No" "Dominic, are you doing this because we're not engaged yet? Let's get engaged sooner. My grandfather asked about it"

Dominic sighed and turned to enter the church, but Annabel held him back and said "I'll start coming to church with you. I will become a member of your church. You see, I'm here today to attend the service. I'll do anything, so let's get engaged sooner" Dominic looked at Annabel and said "I will advise you to go back home because you came here with the wrong motive. You shouldn't come to church because you need to please someone. Your motive for coming to church should be for your salvation. You could do other fruitful things than wasting your time coming to church with the wrong motive. Come back when you've realized the real reason you should come to church... The service is starting soon. I'll be on my way in" Dominic took her hands off his' and went in leaving Annabel looking dejected.

A figure dressed in black suit watched them from a distance. His assistant held an umbrella over his head as he said "He's still quite aloof , isn't he?". The assistant looked at him and said "Sir Kelvin, why don't you go see your younger brother?" The figure named Kelvin smirked...

That evening, Dominic drove to the front of the grocery store where Ravenna had first entered his car. He got out and contemplated about locking his car door before deciding to leave it opened, then he went in and bought some stuffs. When he came back to his car, he stared at the backseat door for a while before opening it. He looked a little bit disappointed seeing it was empty, but he threw the plastic bag he was holding onto the backseat, entered the car and drove off...
