It's the abuse, not the reactions.
*Mile's phone rings* “Hey babe.” He said answering the phone. Karmen cried saying, “My dad came home.” “I will come and get you, Karmen, I promise everything will be okay.” Miles said. “No don’t, I do not want you getting hurt, Miles.” She said. “Your father cannot continue hurting you, Karmen, it’s not okay.” “I’m on my way to come get you now. I will be there soon.” Miles said. *Call ended*
Backstory:
Miles and Karmen have been dating for two years. Karmen has never told anybody that her father abuses her, until she met Miles. Karmen has been abused by her father all her life. Her mother, Amelia, has never said a word about it. Miles wants to help Karmen, he just doesn’t have the money. Karmen's friends of 15 years, Nat and Anna, have never known her father abused her. Karmen is now 19 years old, she is being forced to live with her parents.
*Over text* “Come outside now.” Said Miles. “What if my dad sees me?” said Karmen. “Come out from the backyard, I will talk to your dad.” Said Miles. “K” Said Karmen. She snuck into her backyard, went around the corner to the gate. She had to stand on her tippy-toes to open the gate, but she did it. Meanwhile, Miles was talking to Lee, her dad. “Is she home?” asked Miles. “No.” Said Lee. “Okay, I will talk to her at school.” Miles said. “No, you won’t, she won’t be there.” Lee said. “Why not?” Miles asked.” “She just won’t.” Said Lee. “Oh okay then. Have a nice day, sir.” Said Miles. “Yeah, yeah, go away.” Said Lee. Karmen had been sitting in the car for about five minutes, then Miles came. Karmen was laying in the back seat, crying. Miles asked, “Did he hurt you, babe?” “No.” She said. “Good.” Miles said.
Miles drove to the GameStop right across the street from Karmen’s friends house, Nat and Anna. He parked under a tree in the parking lot. He crawled into the back seat with Karmen and picked her up and held her in his arms. “It will be okay, I promise babe.” “I’m right here. You can stay at my house if you would like.” He said. “No” Karmen cried. “I want to tell Nat and Anna about my dad.” She said. Miles asked, “Are you certain, Karmen? That’s a massive risk with your friendship.” “ They might get upset.” He said. “Nat wouldn’t, Anna most likely will. She has never been here for me, though.” Karmen said. “I want to tell them in person, now.” She texted them to come to the GameStop, they said they were on their way.
Anna and Nat were always together, they were next-door neighbors. One girl went somewhere, the other would too. Once Nat arrived, she saw Karmen’s red, puffy eyes from crying. “What’s wrong?” asked Nat. “I have something to tell you and Anna.” she sniffled. “Where is Anna?” “Why isn’t she with you?” “Are you two still friends?” Karmen asked. “Yes we are, she is getting ready I think.” Nat said. “I’m here!” Anna yelled, running over to them, wiping smeared mascara off her face. Nat giggled. “You came at the perfect time.” Said Karmen. “Really” Miles mumbled under his breath. “Okay, well now that Anna is here I wanted to te-“ “Wait wait wait, this has to be a joke. You really made me get ready, come all this way just to hear bad news?! I can already tell you're going to tell me bad news.” Anna said. “Well I jus-“ “Stop Karmen, you always have some dumb problem, and you're probably just on your lady week now. Calm down.” Said Anna. “Let her talk, Anna! Jesus.” Miles yelled. “I just wanted to tell you both that my father has abused me ever since he became an alcoholic when I was four.” Karmen said crying. “Really?! You have hidden this from me for 15 years?! What kind of friend are you Karmen? I cannot trust you.” Anna yelled, walking away. Nat hugged Karmen and asked, “Why does he hurt you?” “I don’t know, Nat. I really don’t know.” She said crying.
