Chapter 20

670 Words
A couple of weeks went by peacefully. There was no word, hide nor hair of Monroe or her men. Ara sat on the front porch of the pack house, laughing and drinking coffee with Melissa. She and Melissa had become close friends in such a short time and even though Ara appeared young, she connected on a deeper level with Melissa than with the younger women of the pack. " So how are you adjusting? is it weird being so much older than everyone else?" Melissa asked Ara, her eyes brimming with curiosity. Ara shrugged. Melissa watched Ara. She was so calm all the time. Had infinite patience for the younger pack members but sometimes when no one was looking, Melissa noticed a heartbreaking loneliness that seemed to radiate from Ara. Melissa couldn't even imagine the kinds of things that Ara had witness or been through being 2000 years old. Ara was so kind, welcoming and had so much love inside of her. She was glad that Ara had Peter and Wyatt. Melissa was also glad that Scott and the pack had Ara. Chris had told Melissa everything that had happened at Ara's clan and Melissa desperately hoped they could visit soon. She wanted to meet them. Melissa lifted her nose as the smell of baked goods floated from the open window of the kitchen. Coryn loved to bake so she had become to official cook of the house. Suddenly, Ara closed her hand over her nose and gagged. " Ara are you okay?" Melissa asked and Ara shook her head. Ara launched from her chair and leaned over the railing of the porch puking into the bushes below. Usually she loved the scent of Coryn's baked goods but the past couple of days, Ara had been feeling a little nauseated at the smell of food. " I haven't been feeling well and I have no appetite." Ara replied softly. Melissa watched her closely and then gasped. " Oh my god, Ara we need to get you to Deaton." she said and pulled Ara from the porch. Ara was confused but didn't fight her. Once at Deaton's clinic, Melissa told him of Ara's symptoms and he took some of her blood. " I am not a physician Melissa." Deaton admonished her when she'd asked him to perform a pregnancy test on Ara's blood. He had looked at her like she was crazy but had done as she asked. Deaton was pale when he came back into the exam room. " What is it Deaton?" Ara asked, afraid something was wrong with her. Deaton took Ara's hand. He looked between Melissa and Ara before taking a breath. " Well, Ara, the test is conclusive. You are pregnant." He said. Melissa squealed with happiness but Ara was in shock. She was pregnant? Tears of happiness filled her eyes as her hands gently rubbed over her still flat belly. " I am so happy for you Ara. You are going to make an amazing mother!" Melissa said as she drove them home. Ara still couldn't believe it. She'd had no idea that she could even get pregnant by Peter. When they got home, peter came over to her, feeling her tumultuous emotions through their bond. " Are you alright?" he asked. Melissa hugged him quickly and rushed away, pulling Scott and Chris with her. Wyatt ran over when he saw his mother and the worried expression on Peter's face. He had gotten in the habit of calling him dad. " Mom?" he asked softly. Ara looked at her mate and her son and then pulled them both in for a tight hug. " Peter, I'm pregnant." she said. At first Peter's face was blank and then he picked her up and swung her around whooping in happiness. Wyatt stared at her belly with a smile. " I'm going to be a big brother?" he asked and Ara nodded. " Yes!" Wyatt screamed pumping his fist into the air. They all partied that night.
