Chapter 9

Melissa paced back and forth in the living room. " Melissa calm down, Scott is going to be just fine. He knows what he's doing, he knows to be careful" Chris said as he tried to get her to sit down. " I know Chris but I can't help it," she said just as the front door opened and Scott walked in followed by Malia. There were some people standing on the porch. A young woman and a little boy. " Come in guys it's okay" Scott said soothingly. Melissa walked over to the door and shooed Scott away. " Hello, my name is Melissa. I am Scott's mom" she said extending her hand. Ara took Melissa's hand careful not to squeeze too hard and shook it. " I'm Ara and this is Wyatt" Ara replied but still didn't move into the house. Scott looked at Chris with an unreadable expression and Chris immediately grew tense. " Scott, what is it?" he asked, getting up. Scott shook his head." We found them in an abandoned building. The place was surrounded. Ten hunters outside and six more inside" he said and Chris's frown deepened. " Why so many hunters for two wolves?" he asked. Scott shook his head." Chris did Gerard ever say what other kinds of creatures there were out in the world?" Scott asked. Chris shook his head." No." Chris said and then paled slightly, " Why?" he asked, knowing the answer before Scott even said anything. This woman and maybe even the child was something they’d never seen before. Without Scott saying a word, Chris walked to the door and looked at the woman and boy in front of him, Scott joined them soon after. The woman didn't look a day over twenty but when he looked at her more closely, he could tell by her eyes that she was older than she appeared. " Show me Scott," he said. Scott flashed his red Alpha eyes, compelling the two of them to show their true nature. Wyatt's eyes glowed first, the yellow with the silver lining. Because Ara was so old, Scott’s alpha nature didn’t affect her . She showed her true nature by choice. Chris gasped as he looked at the shining silver eyes of the creature in front of him. Ara stared back at the hunter in front of her, showing him her glowing silver eyes. Then she flashed him her fangs. Hours later... " Holy s**t" Melissa said again for the hundredth time. She looked over at the couch where Ara was sitting in fascination. She didn't know why she was so shocked to learn that vampires actually existed. After all werewolves existed, her son was the alpha of a continuously growing pack. " Okay so tell me what happened." Chris said sitting on a chair in front of the couch. He had the bestiary sitting in his lap. There was nothing about vampires inside of it which surprised Chris. After Ara told them how she came to be the caretaker of little Wyatt, she was going to give him the information she knew of that they were lacking concerning vampires. Scott had called Deaton and he was on his way to check over Wyatt, who was sleeping in Ara's lap. Melissa had fed the young boy and he'd fallen asleep soon after. “ Our clan is about a hundred miles due west of here. They've been there for a couple hundred years at least. My parents and I left the clan when the war between Gerard and Scott was happening. We wanted to help but the clan leader forbade it as the war didn't affect us directly. My parents and I moved to the city where we could keep an eye out. We often sent tips whenever we had them of people who were being hunted, anonymously of course." she said and sighed. " We were out one night and on our way home when we heard whimpering in an alley. Four hunters were torturing Wyatt with wolfsbane and silver. He was only three and his parents were already dead. We charged them. They took on the majority of the hunters while I grabbed Wyatt. My parents never made it out of that alley." she said and tears fell from Melissa's eyes. Ara was running her fingers through Wyatt's hair, an automatic reflex. " Okay what happened next?" Chris asked. " How did he get the silver in his eyes?" Deaton asked walking into the living room. Ara sat up straighter. She could smell the ancient power of the druids on Deaton and it made her nervous, her eyes glowing silver.
