Chapter 5

Scott frowned as Liam came in carrying an unconscious woman in his arms. She had so much blood all over her that he was surprised that she was even alive. He knew that she was however because her heart was still beating. Ethan came in next, holding the hand of a little boy no older than maybe four or five. The boy looked at him curiously but then quickly his eyes moved back to Liam's back and the woman he was carrying. Derek and Jackson were next. " How many hunters?" Scott asked and Derek sighed. " There were ten outside of the building we found them in and six inside" he said, his voice gruff. Malia frowned and crossed her arms." Sixteen? why would Monroe send sixteen hunters after two people, one of them being a little kid?" she asked and Scott shrugged. Jackson chuckled as he sat down. " Little boy or not, that kid is dangerous and so is the girl. From what the hunters were whispering about, they are deadly when cornered. I watched her jump from a tenth story window and land on her feet." Jackson said, shaking his head as though he didn't believe what he'd seen with his own eyes. " Derek, can werewolves do that? jump from that high and land on their feet unharmed?" Scott asked and Derek shook his head. " Not that I'm aware of. We can jump from ten stories but we'd break our legs on impact. Besides she wasn't unharmed. Shards of glass sliced her wide open." he said, eying the woman that Liam had lain on the bed; the boy was sitting beside her on a chair eying them suspiciously. He seemed older than he was. " We don't know if we can trust her. She isn't a wolf Scott" Ara heard as if from a distance. She could hear Wyatt growl quietly beside her and she squeezed his hand. " We can't just abandon her and let Monroe kill her Derek!" Scott replied slightly annoyed. He looked over at the woman in the bed, her son beside her holding her hand. The boy was clearly a wolf and yet not. Scott had the feeling that he'd been through a lot and he had yet to open up. He didn't trust them even though the woman clearly knew that he and his pack could be trusted to help. " Well did she say what she was?" Peter asked, speaking for the first time since Liam had walked through the door with her. He was sitting in the chair, rubbing his temples. Scott frowned at Peter. He'd been acting weird, not his usual cocky, annoying self. Derek shook his head." No, all she said was that she wasn't a wolf. She was quite sarcastic" Derek replied and everyone chuckled. There was a knock on the door and then Isaac walked in. Ever since Allison had been killed, Isaac had been lost. Scott had let him leave to work his feelings out. Isaac had been helping him lately since Monroe. " I got word that you were out this way and thought I'd check in." Isaac said, his eyes flicking into the room where the woman and boy was. Isaac frowned slightly and sniffed. " What is that?" he asked. Scott frowned. Isaac was one of the best trackers in the pack so he picked up on scents that others didn't. " What do you smell?" Scott asked and Isaac shrugged. " I don't know, I can only describe the scent as old, like artifacts in a museum." Isaac replied. Shaking his head again, Isaac informed Scott on everything he'd been up to, spying on Monroe and her activities. When he was finished, he hugged Scott and left. Lydia walked in from the bedroom. She was the only one who Wyatt would let close to his mother. " She's waking up, she'll survive. I have never seen anyone heal that fast Scott, not even you" she said with wide eyes.  Scott was intrigued now. He walked slowly into the room, Ethan, Liam, Malia and Derek behind him. Wyatt was growling a warning as he watched them warily. Not for the first time, Scott wondered what could have possibly happened to the kid to make him so wary. Scott had been through a lot in his life. Being bitten, nearly dying, fighting a war and he wasn't even half as damaged as this kid was. " Wyatt, I'm not going to hurt your mom. I just need to ask her a few questions, is that okay?" Scott asked the boy. Wyatt looked from Scott to Ara and back to Scott before nodding slowly. Ara opened her now green eyes and slowly gazed around the room. She recognized Derek, Liam and Jackson from the building but the other two she didn't know. She could smell Scott on the woman so she assumed she must be Scott's mate. Then Ara's eyes moved to the man by the window and her breath caught, her eyes flashing silver before turning back to green. He was breathtaking to say the least and her pulse raced no matter how hard she tried to remain calm. Wyatt heard her heart racing and growled softly. " Wyatt it's alright, calm, they won't hurt you" she said. Everyone noticed that she didn't include herself in that statement. She fully expected to die and had accepted it. Peter growled softly from his vantage at the window and stood from his chair. For some reason the thought of that woman dying didn't sit well with him. Ara's eyes only left Peter when Scott began to speak. " Hi, my name is Scott'' he said with a friendly smile. " I know who you are Scott. I have been trying to find you" Ara replied, her eyes going back to Peter who'd moved closer. Scott frowned. " What's your name?" Scott asked her. Ara's gaze circled the room again before landing back on Scott. " Ara," she told him and said nothing more. " What are you?" Derek demanded from just behind Scott and Scott shot him a dirty look making Ara nearly smile. " Derek, you're being rude," Scott said and Derek snorted. Ara sighed and closed her eyes, trying to fight the weakness that came with blood loss. " Don't worry Scott. I've lived with worse" Ara said and sat up slowly. " Wyatt, why don't you go and eat something, while I talk with Scott" Ara said and Lydia led Wyatt into the kitchen.
