  CHERYL POV   My lips pressed together into a firm line as I finally turned to face him. "Excuse you?"   A faintly mocking smile curved his mouth. "You weren't replying to my messages, so I assumed something had happened to you."   I forced out a mirthless laugh. "That's the most absurd assumption that I have ever heard."
