For the past week I'd noticed how off Lyra was acting. She had been acting tense and weird, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I was missing something important, but she kept denying that something was wrong. At first, I thought it was stress from training, or the weight of her destiny. She had been putting in long hours, and I understood. But as the days passed, her mood shifted. She would sit silently at the dinner table, lost in thought. I tried to engage her. I made jokes, and encouraged her to talk, anything to bring her back to me. Yet, she remained distant.
