Chapter 40: No

I was on my way to Colton’s house. Hope and I had just spent the day making final plans for the bonding ceremony. Apparently since I had a mate and now knew I had a mate I was supposed to bring him along with me to the ceremony. Pretty much like my wedding date. I got great pleasure in watching Hope get angry each time I called the ceremony a wedding. She would stomp her foot and roll her eyes like a small child. It was amazing.

Hope told me I needed to make sure Colton had a green tie because the dress she was forcing me to wear was green. I had a whole list of things that I needed to tell him. I knocked on his door and bit my lip. Things had been going pretty good with Colton and I since we had a our chat. I knew I wanted to take these things very slow and he respected that.

The door opened and Brandon Colton’s brother answered. “Hey! Is Colton here? I was supposed to meet him..” I smiled at him before looking down. At first Brandon didn’t say anything. He just stood there staring at me. It was starting to make me feel rather uncomfortable.  I took a step back. “Hello?” I asked looking back up at him.

He was smirking at me like…well like a wolf. He looked like a wolf that had won some lottery.. Which I know wolves don’t win lotteries so I guess it was like a wolf looking at a sheep he was about to eat.

“Brandon….” I said quietly. “Is Colton here?” I took another step back.

“Say it again.” His voice was quiet but I froze. No. No.

“Say it again.” His voice was louder this time and he closed the space between us. I couldn’t breath. No. There was no way. That voice. I recognized that voice.

“It’s you…”I whispered. I turned to try and get away from him but he grabbed my arms and pulled me back. Even though I had shifted I still wasn’t as strong as I should be. I tried pulling away but he just squeezed me tighter.

“I said. Emmry. Say it again.” He demanded. He was now glaring at me. What did he even want me to say.

“What do you want me to say?”  I asked confused. He glared harder. “My name.”

What…in the world….”Brandon…” I whispered looking up at him in pure fear.

A smile broke out on his face. “I have been waiting a very long time for you to say my name Mate.”

I couldn’t stop the tears from falling anymore. He found me…he was here all along.

Please help it’s Brandon I called out through the mind link. Brandon had been stroking my hair but pulled it as soon as I had sent out the call.

“That was the wrong thing to do mate.” He chastised me. “Now I have to knock you out.” You have to what?! Did he just say he was going to knock me out.

I pulled and yanked until I was free from his arms. I needed to run I needed to shift. I needed to get as far away from him as possible. I started to run back the way I had come. I was going to get away from him. Someone had to hear my mind link. I was going to be fine.

I made it five feet before Brandon jumped in front of me. He was glaring again. “You are running away from me mate?” He asked stalking towards me.

“Please just let me go. I won’t tell anyone it’s you.” I lied. Of course I would tell them it’s him. I just need to buy some time any time. If I called out in the mind link again Brandon would know. I needed to give everyone time to come find me.

“It’s time to go Mate.” Was all he said in return. I didn’t see what he had in his hands. I just saw it coming towards my head. Then everything went black.

Emmry’s voice ripped through the mind link. She sounded terrified. Brandon why was…what? It’s Brandon, was he hurting her? I jumped up out of the chair. I didn’t even bother talking to Alpha or Sam as they both reacted the same time I did.

“My house.” I yelled running through the office and out the door. Emmry and I were supposed to meet up today. That was before I got called into her father’s office. I heard Alpha give out orders but I just kept running. I needed to make sure she was safe.

I didn’t live that far away from the building. It was only a 15 minute walk. I don’t know if I made it there in 2 minutes or 10 but it felt like a century. I could just barely detect her scent as well as my brother’s outside the house. I looked down and saw blood on the ground. It wasn’t a massive amount but it was enough that whoever had been hit had some damage. Please don’t let it be Emmry.

I ran into the house calling out. “Brandon! Emmry!” No one was there. I couldn’t really even smell them anymore. I couldn’t feel her, we hadn’t finished the mating process so I couldn’t connect to just her.

Alpha showed up seconds after me tearing through the room. “That was her blood out there.” He snarled looking around the room. Alpha stopped at the kitchen table. “What the hell is this?”

On the table were notebook pages. I walked over and looked down. I couldn’t control the growl that came off my lips. On each page was a day, time and location of Emmry and what she did. It documented her every move. I pushed the pages and saw that it went all the way back to before she was r***d….it went back to when she was 10. My brother was only 12 at the time. How could a 12….start something like this? I wanted to rip the papers apart.

“That son of a bitch.” I growled and went out of the room and out the door. She was gone. My mate was gone.

She was taken my brother. Security, you need to track down Brandon. He had Emmry. I called through the mind link. I needed to get control of my anger. I was no help to Emmry if I lost myself completely like last time. I needed to get a game plan together. I looked out at the trees. I know I should wait for the Alpha to make a plan.

I know I should wait and see what they want us to do. But I can’t. My mate is gone.

So I did what I thought was best. I called my sister over the mind link and asked her to meet me by the road. I was going to find my ‘brother’ and I was going to kill him.
