Chapter 39: Where Is He?

729 Words
David It had been two weeks since we brought Tom back to the detention center. I let Sam and Matt take over interrogation. There was no way I could go in every single day and ask him about the murder of my mate. I think I would kill him. I spent the first three sessions listening and watching but after I nearly broke down the wall we collectively decided instead I would receive briefings. Sam was fifteen minutes late to today’s little meeting. I couldn’t sit in my office and wait for her anymore. I needed to do something. I was in the process of packing up my stuff when the door opened and Sam busted in. “Sorry Alpha.” She said through breaths. “There was…well a problem.” Sam walked over and plopped in the chair. “What do you mean there’s a problem?” I should have been notified through the mind link if there was an issue. I glared at my lead of security. “Explain.” I demanded not moving. “Someone let Colton in the detention center. He nearly beat him to death.” I blinked a few times. What? Colton went into the detention center and beat Tom? “What??” “It was rather confusing. We have a video of Colton entering the detention center, going down to the cells talking to Tom. The video cuts out and then there’s a half hour time jump with Colton leaving the building. The weird part is..the time stamp for Colton leaving is weird. The whole thing looks so weird.” Sam explained pulling out a device to show me the video. I watched trying to keep myself calm. The video did show Colton going down and talking to Tom. It also showed the black out and Colton leaving. When he left you could see Tom huddled in the corner badly beaten. I knew Colton would have been angry with Tom being his father but Colton was never one to go to violence. I sighed. Colton my office now. His reply was quick. He didn’t seem overly upset or concerned about anything. All of this was so confusing. “Sam you will stay. We will show him the video and ask him about his visit. There could be an explanation.” Sam nodded and moved to stand against the wall. Colton walked in a few minutes later looking a little confused. “Alpha?” I pointed to my chair. He nodded and walked in sitting down. “I hear you visited your father.” I set the device on the desk in front of him and sat down. “You should really watch the video before you answer.” I said before Colton even could open his mouth. I watched as his eyes were trained to the video. I checked his reaction to when the screen went black and it pulled away with his father beaten. To say he was surprised would be an understatement. “Alpha I didn’t…I didn’t open the bars…how could I? I swear…” Colton looked up at me. I wanted to believe him. This did look like a half put together plot to get Colton in trouble but my question was why? “Why would someone want to make it look like you attacked your father?” I asked. Colton looked at me and then Sam. He looked at a complete loss. “I… I don’t know. I went to ask him about Emmry. I went to see…I went to see if he was the one…” Colton looked away from me and down at his hands. Ah he wanted to see if his father was the one who had hurt Emmry the most. I shook my head. “He was not the one. He did kill my mate. At least Emmry is sure that he did.” I said sighing. It was still painful, it would probably always be painful to think about Lorraine. “I didn’t do that to him…he’s still my dad.” Colton whispered. It had been hard with Tom losing his mind and abandoning them. I had always tried to be there for Colton and his siblings. I wanted to believe Colton without a doubt but I had to be an Alpha of the pack first. “Sam is Tom conscious?” I turned and looked at her. She nodded. “Who does he say attacked him?” Sam looked at me and then at Colton. “All he said was it was his son.” I looked back at Colton and raised my eyebrows. “Where’s Brandon?”
