The Debut

Natasha POV Xander and I stood in the front room, greeting our guests as they arrived. The many Alphas and their beautiful Lunas who had funneled through the front door reminded how respected our pack was. My face was starting to cramp from smiling, however it seemed I couldn’t stop. I was elated by the response our daughters had brought and I knew they would be accepted as the Alphas of our pack in the future. “Alpha Xander, Luna Natasha, how wonderful to see you again!” exclaimed Alpha Lawrence of the Harvest Moon pack. Xander and Lawrence had been friends since they were children and since Harvest Moon was our neighboring pack to the east, we had just signed a treaty with them combining our lands. The packs would stay separate, but all warriors would combine to keep us safe in the event we were invaded by rogues. This was a feat, to say the least. Most Alphas are too territorial and want to keep their packs and lands to themselves. Xander had told her that Lawrence was the only Alpha he would ever even consider a treaty with due to the trust he had for him. “Alpha Lawrence, thank you so much for coming!” Xander replied as they shook hands. “Where is your beautiful Luna?” “She was not able to join me today. She is due to give birth any day and she didn’t feel comfortable leaving the pack. I wouldn’t miss this for the world! She will mind-link if she goes into labor, but I do feel we have at least a few more days until our pup makes his appearance”, Lawrence announced. “I do understand. We will have to make an appearance in your pack soon then? You will debut the pup after he arrives?” I inquired. Most packs do announce all royal pups since even if they will not be Alphas, they will be in line to marry into other Alpha families. “This is our third pup and I don’t think Marie has decided if there will be a debut or not. I’m sure she will decide that yes, we should show him to the world, but she is so tired right now with the other two littles underfoot.” Lawrence looked tired himself. The end of a wolf pregnancy was difficult and mates tried to do as much for the mother-to-be as possible in order to allow her to rest. I was sure he was burning the candle at both ends right now. “Well, let us know if there is anything we can do for either of you”, I told him. I would have to take a ride over and visit with Luna Marie in the near future. Alpha Lawrence excused himself and went to sit in the gardens while we greeted our other guests. Once everyone had retired to the gardens, my mother and Xander’s mother came down the stairs with our girls. I quickly walked to meet them and thanked the grandmothers profusely for tending to my pups. Xander came to my side and each one of us took one of them. “Ready?” Xander looked into my eyes and asked. “Ready as I’ll ever be”. I looked lovingly back at him. “Let’s do this.” We walked to the doors leading to the gardens and waited to be announced. When we heard our names called, the doors opened and we walked down the cobblestone path that I had walked this morning. We ended on the gazebo and from there we could see every seat was filled and some people were even standing in the back. My eyes misted up from the emotions I was feeling and I could feel the same emotions coming from Xander. We had definitely made it! The ceremony began and the elder motioned for us to bring the girls to him. “We are here today to introduce to the world the arrival of two very special children. These children are the daughters of Alpha Xander Highgrove and his Luna Natasha Highgrove of the Crimson Moon pack. They will eventually rule the Crimson Moon pack as Alphas as that is their destiny. Alpha Xander, do you vow to educate your daughters on the Council Laws?” the elder asked. “I do”, Xander replied. The elder looked at Xander again and asked, “Do you vow to raise your daughters in the way of the werewolves and their traditions?” “I do”. “Do you vow to teach these girls about all other supernatural species and introduce them to the Vampire King, the Fey Queen and the Warlock Council when they come of age in order to continue peace with these realms?” The elder looked inquisitively at Xander. “I do,” Xander loudly announced. “Then it is my duty to introduce to all of you, Everly and Addison Highgrove, future Alphas of the Crimson Moon pack!” The elder announced and the crowd cheered. We turned the girls out toward the guests and everyone rose from their seat, clapping and yelling for our daughters. Xander turned toward me and sweetly kissed my lips. “Thank you so much. This means the world to me.” Xander whispered in my ear. I knew an he wanted an heir but he had always been wonderful to me when it didn’t seem like that would happen. Now that it was a reality, he was bursting with pride. The guests moved to the dining room, where there was a huge buffet filled with bacon, sausage, breakfast breads, eggs, pancakes, juice, coffee and anything else breakfast related. Our staff had done a terrific job planning and preparing this for our guests and I will have to thank them for going over and above what I had asked of them. Xander and I took the girls to our table and sat down. I held the girls and Xander went to fix us our plates. “You are going to let your daughters rule someday?” the Luna from the New Moon pack who was sitting next to me inquired. I turned in my chair and replied, “Yes, it is their birthright. Why do you ask?” She tipped her head and said in a hushed voice, “My husband was animate that our daughters would never be allowed to rule. He said no self-respecting Alpha would ever recognize a woman leading a pack. He said there would be constant challenges to the throne and no woman could stand up to a challenge from a man. Aren’t you afraid for your girls?” I nodded my head. “The thought has crossed my mind, but we will make sure they are trained and prepared if that day does come. There is no reason a girl can’t lead. Girls are just as smart and capable as boys and if the goddess sees fit to give an Alpha a female heir first, they should be allowed to inherit the throne, just as if she had been a boy.” The Luna next to me huffed, “Well, I know our pack won’t be that accepting when that day comes”. She turned away from me in her seat and continued eating her breakfast. I laughed inside and realized that maybe Crimson Moon was a bit more advanced in our way of thinking. I just hoped not all other packs felt the way the New Moon pack did.
