New Beginnings
The pack house bells rang loudly through the early morning air, marking an epic moment in pack history, the birth of the long-awaited heirs of Alpha Xander and Luna Natasha. The pack members stepped outside of their homes and cheered, looking forward to the days to come. For years, the realm had waited for an heir and now there were two! The town was a site to behold, decorated in Silver and Royal Blue for the upcoming festivities. In three days, there would be a party like no other and the royal children would be introduced to the wolves of the Crimson Moon pack. Natasha POV “I just can’t! They must be the most precious girls to ever grace this world!” I exclaimed as I cooed over my daughters. Xander smiled at me and continued to walk the floor with Everly, my younger daughter while I finished nursing Addison, the older. Addison held onto my finger as she fed and believed I had never been this happy in my entire life, not even when I first met Xander and the mate bond sent shivers through my body. I had waited for this moment and had truly begun to believe this would never be a reality. The pack doctors had never been able to find anything wrong with either of us but with every heat cycle I became more and more discouraged. We had been bonded for 10 years and now I had everything I ever dreamed of! “My dear, you have never looked more radiant”, Xander sat on the bed next to his blushing bride. He knew how much all of this meant to her and he was elated he was finally able to give this to her. He handed her Everly and watched as his whole world sat beside him. He knew there was nothing he wouldn’t do to protect them and keep them safe, always. The next day, we were allowed to go home and we headed to the castle. The next step in forever, we decorated an amazing nursery for our two beautiful blessings. Bright and crisp, with yellow walls and white trim, I just knew many happy memories would be made here. I had picked out the bedding with the pink bunnies and yellow flowers with green leaves. I had spent hours choosing their layette and making sure everything was perfect. The rocking chair by the window where I would hold my princesses was mine from when I was an infant. I could not wait for tomorrow and forever. “There you are!” Luna Marcelline gushed as she walked into the nursery. “My granddaughters are perfect! May I take Addison?” she asked. “Absolutely!” I smiled as I handed her mother-in-law her newborn. I had lived here with them since I was 18 and I adored the woman holding my baby. All these years, I had felt like a failure, unable to give my in-laws grandchildren. Xander had been an only child, and they wanted nothing more than to spoil the next generation rotten. The elation on Marci’s face showed how much she had been waiting for this moment. “This child is going to be special, mark my words. When will your parents be here dear?” Marci inquired. “I believe they should be here this evening. I spoke to mother this morning and they were planning to leave just after lunch. That would put them here late afternoon, I suppose,” I answered as I swaddled Everly. Marci walked over to me and switched out babies. I sat down in the rocking chair overlooking my pack and sighed. From here I could see the river and the mountains beyond that. My parents’ pack was beyond those mountains and there were days I truly missed the views. My parents were the Alpha and Luna of the Mountain Crest pack and they would be handing down the reigns to my brother next year. I was 10 years older than him and I couldn’t wait to attend his Coronation ceremony. I hadn’t seen him in 5 years, since he left to attend the Academy to learn how to be an Alpha. Training was harsh and he didn’t have much time to himself. He wrote to me almost weekly and I enjoyed hearing about his training and classes. I had never been able to attend College due to finding my mate so young and I lived vicariously through Arthur. He would be home soon though and we would be able to get to know each other again, not just as siblings but as adults. “I’ll make sure Marie makes something special for dinner then. It has been too long since your parents have come to visit”, Marci announced, laying down Addison and heading for the door. Xander had been watching from the doorway and, once his mother had left, began assisting his wife with readying the girls for a nap. Once the girls were asleep, we headed down to the kitchen to make ourselves a quick lunch. “Natasha!” came a loud squeal from behind me and as I turned around, a tiny whirlwind of arms, legs, and blonde hair ran right into me. “Corinne!” I giggled as I hugged my best friend. “I was only gone for three days!” “Three long days! I had to do everything around here! You do know you do way too much around here, right?” Corrine laughed. Corrine was the mate of Xander’s Beta and the two of them had taken over the Alpha and Luna duties while we were in the hospital. Xander knew he could trust Marcus, his Beta, and Corrine was always one who could be turned to when anything was needed. She had been planning the debutante ceremony for the girls tomorrow night and I knew it would be amazing! Corrine was the best party planner I knew and nothing would be overlooked. “I do not! I don’t do any more than any other luna, do I?” I asked. I knew that most Lunas looked after the families in the pack and made sure they were taken care of. I also knew that planning events and hosting other Alphas and Lunas from other packs was part of my job description. Finally, taking care of my mate, the Alpha, was the part of my responsibilities that I loved. I wasn’t sure what more I did that other Lunas didn’t do. “Natasha! You don’t just do more, you are amazing at it!” Corrine smiled. She wasn’t sure how Natasha was able to get everything done every day in just 24 hours. Natasha would check in on the she-wolves that had been ill or recently given birth, she remembered all the women and children’s birthdays and made sure a small gift was delivered, she provided food and clothing for the widows and children if their mate or father were killed, and so much more! She was the most loving, caring, amazing Luna and Corrine knew how lucky this pack was to have her. Xander was also excellent as Alpha. He was outgoing and fun, but he was determined to have the strongest pack on the continent and would push his people to be the best at everything. “Where’s Marcus?” Alex asked Corrine. “In your office. He won’t stop until he knows you are ready to come back. I have been having to take all meals to him just to make sure he eats, and I have to force him to come to bed each night. He says he will not be the one to let you down”, Corrine stated while shaking her head. Xander laughed at the thought of Marcus sleeping with one eye open in his office just to make sure he wasn’t needed. “I’ll go let him know I’m back and relieve him of his duties. Maybe then he can get some sleep”, Xander announced as he headed out the dining room door in search of his best friend.
