“Pass me the glass of lemonade, please,” Mom said.
“Sure.”
I passed it over to her before placing the gloves on.
“All right, where do I start?” I asked.
“Here, take the rose bed and plant them here.”
“How was your day?” I asked.
“It was good. I went to the house and helped out Reece with the boys, ate lunch, and
came home.”
“Cool. I need to help Saul with his driving practice.”
“How was the hospital?”
“Great. The kids loved the surprise and the photos,” I said.
“That’s good. Come inside and eat. I made some of your favorites,” she told me.
“I’m still full from the big breakfast Cicely made.”
I jumped up and helped her stand. She removed her gloves, and I left mine on the steps.
She opened the door, and I walked in behind her.
“Go wash your hands, Kamden,” Mom said.
“On it,” I answered and headed to the bathroom.
As I opened the door, I felt my phone vibrate. I pulled it out of my back pocket and saw
Josie texting me.
Josie: Can we meet up for dinner tonight?
Me: That’s not a good idea.
Josie: Please, Kamden, just friends, like old times.
I sighed and thought it might not be so bad to have dinner with a friend since I didn’t
have any major plans.
