Chapter Five

638 Words
Lillian was outside the Alpha's chamber, feeling her heart race with anticipation. She had been summoned by the Alpha himself, and she didn't know what to expect. Taking a deep breath to steady her nerves, she gently knocked on the door. There was no response, so she waited for a few minutes before knocking again, but there was still no answer. Lillian began to wonder if the messenger had made a mistake. Was the Alpha even in his chambers? Just as she was about to leave, she heard a voice from inside the room. "Who's that?" the Alpha asked gruffly. Lillian's heart skipped a beat as she replied, "Good morning, your grace. I'm sorry to interrupt you, but the messenger told me you called for me, and I'm here to ask if you need anything." There was a pause before the Alpha responded, "And who are you?" Lillian's voice trembled slightly as she replied, "Lillian, the maid that you spoke to yesterday in your chambers." The Alpha's response was curt, "I speak to a lot of maids. Come in." Turning the door handle, Lillian entered the room and closed the door behind her. She froze, her eyes widening in shock. The Alpha was standing in front of her, wearing only a towel barely tied around his waist. She immediately turned to face the door, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. "I'm so sorry, your grace," she said. Pardon my negligence. I should go out immediately and come back when you're in a suitable position to be seen," Lillian muttered, her voice barely audible. But instead of the anger she expected, the Alpha burst out laughing. "You're so funny. You should be my entertainer," he said, still chuckling. “I’m sorry once again.” Lillian mustered. Lillian stood there, unsure of how to respond. She didn't dare turn around or ask him what he meant. She simply stood there, her heart pounding in her chest. "Aren't you going to reply to me?" the Alpha asked, his voice tinged with irritation. Lillian's knees trembled as she replied, "I'm sorry, your grace.Pardon my negligence. I just didn't know what to say." The Alpha's laughter stopped, and he ordered, "You don't turn your back on me when speaking to me, maid." Lillian immediately turned around, still keeping her head bowed. "I'm sorry once again," she muttered. The Alpha's eyes seemed to bore into her soul as he commented, "You have such a funny personality and a very fine facial structure too." Lillian's voice was barely audible as she replied, "Thank you, your grace, for such comments." But then the Alpha's tone changed, becoming more commanding. "Look into my eyes when I speak to you!" Lillian gently raised her head, her heart racing, and met the Alpha's gaze. The atmosphere in the room seemed to thicken, making her feel sick. "Where are you from?" the Alpha asked suddenly, leaving Lillian stunned. She didn't know what to say, her mind going blank, feeling like her words had failed her. "Can't you speak?" the Alpha asked, his voice tinged with annoyance. Lillian coughed out a reply, "I'm sorry, your grace..." But before she could continue, the Alpha interrupted her, pointing to a glass of water on his table. "Take that water." Lillian hesitated, but the Alpha's tone brooked no argument. "No, I couldn't, I'm fine, your grace," she replied, trying to decline. But the Alpha repeated his command, "Take that water." Lillian knew better than to disobey the Alpha, so she walked to the table, took a sip of the water, and left the rest there. The Alpha's gaze never left hers as he asked again, "So, back to my question, where are you from?" Lillian's mind was racing, trying to come up with a response. But before she could answer, the door opened, interrupting them.
