CHAPTER 4

KADEN Thal notices her? “Will you come over later?” Macy purrs, tilting her head as she asks, lashes fluttering. Her eyes and smile showing she wants to say more. “Maybe,” I know what’s coming next. “I’ll leave the window open.” She whispers. “As usual.” I grin without thinking, stepping closer. “Wouldn’t miss it for the world.” before leaning down to kiss her again. She responds immediately, arms sliding up around my neck, like she’s done a hundred times before. She presses closer, rising onto her toes. One leg hooks around my waist. I catch it automatically, like I’ve done countless times. My fingers gripping her thigh as our mouths crash together again Pleasure licks through my skin as the kiss deepens. My d**k groans for release but not now. Later. I lift her off the ground our lips still locked tight. Then a loud, exaggerated groan slices through the moment. “I swear to the goddess,” Thal’s voice blasts through the mindlink, “if you don’t step away from her right now, I’m opening a portal and dragging you out by your collar.” I let out a frustrated sigh inside the link, ignoring him and the others trying to reach me. “f**k off,” I shoot back. “You don’t even have a girlfriend.” “Pass,” Thal replies instantly. No hesitation. “Get your mouth away from hers now.” Lucius joins in, his voice calm as usual, but amused. “We’re running late, K.” “We’re already late,” Noam adds. “And I’m not missing game night because Romeo here can’t detach from Macy lacy.” “Open a portal, T,” Nathan urges. “Before he forgets his name too.” Someone presses a car horn, starling us. I roll my eyes as I break the kiss. “Fine You guys are dicks.” Macy lets out a soft huff, clearly annoyed as drop her and step back. “They always need you,” she snaps, folding her arms and shooting daggers toward the yard where the others are waiting. “What about me?” She turns fully toward them, voice rising. “He’s older than all of you, so stop trying to control him!” That’s when Thal, of course, opens his mouth. Bloody hybrid witch. “You’ve kissed half the football team,” he yells back cheerfully, “so stop acting like you’re exclusive to him only.” Laughter explodes into the air. It’s loud and unrestrained, bouncing into the night air. Noam doubles over, clutching his stomach. Nathan slaps his brother’s shoulder, laughing so hard he nearly trips. Adrian actually wipes at his eyes like he’s tearing up. Macy’s face drains of color before flushing deep red. “How dare you!” she snaps, her voice wobbling despite her attempt to stay sharp. She turns to me, eyes shining with fury. “Kaden, see? I told you they don’t like me.” “We never will, Macy-with-the-lacy-pants!” Adrian calls out, grinning wide. “Hey,” I bark, looking back at the guys. “That’s enough.” But the damage is already done. Macy spins on her heel and storms inside, the front door slamming hard enough to rattle the windows. There goes my night with her. The laughter dies down slowly as I stalk toward them. “Was that really necessary?” I demand, half-angry at the group I’ve hung out with all my life. I’m the oldest, yet it never mattered. We are all brothers. Nathan shrugs, unrepentant. “She was draining the life out of you.” We had to save you from drowning.” Thal laughs again, louder than the rest. “Man, you looked like you were suffocating.” Lucius smirks. “Blink twice if you need help.” “f**k all of you,” I mutter, already heading for my car. I don’t wait for them this time. I peel out of the driveway, tires crunching against gravel, leaving them behind mid-laughter. And shocked. Serves them right. They’re already at the pack house when I get there. Waiting at the front. Of course they are. “That’s cheating,” I say as I step out, glaring straight at Thal. Then Noam, Nathan and Adrian. Thal’s from a strong witch lineage. His father is the strongest warlock alive. Their coven the strongest and oldest. While his mother is an omega wolf. So, he’s a hybrid with powers. Adrian is cousin to Noam and Nathan who are twins. Their parents are siblings, Firewolves. The most powerful wolf kind in the world. With abilities almost the same as witches if not better. All three are the future Alphas of the pack. And Firewolves. Lucius is also a hybrid. His father a werewolf, is the current Gamma and his mother a vampire. Making him the future Gamma. And Melvin will take over from his dad as Head Doctor at the pack’s hospital. None of us has shifted, but the three Alphas and Thal, began to display their powers at twelve. Part of which is the ability to teleport. Thal grins, green eyes glowing faintly as blue flames flicker on his palm. “Perks of having powers.” Where the Alphas hold back to use their powers, Thal doesn’t. Though he doesn’t do so recklessly, but he still does. “Was she worth abandoning your brothers for?” Lucius asks. I brush past them heading into the pack house. Pondering on the loss of my night with Macy. “Seriously, K,” Noam says as they follow me. “You did all that because of her?” “You were attacking her,” I snap. “It wasn’t funny.” “Like she always attacks a certain someone,” Thal murmurs, bumping my shoulder lightly. For a second I still then start moving again. “Let’s pack.” We hit the kitchen like a pack of starving wolves, hauling snacks, drinks, whatever we can grab from the massive double door fridge. Each of us has a large bowl with us. Magically summoned by Thal from who knows where. “Won’t say anything about how Macy always attacks Alexa?” Lucius says. “If Alexa can’t handle her then she’s not strong enough,” I say with a shrug as I continue packing. “She’s handling it well,” Thal says with a hint of pride in his voice that hits me somehow in the gut. I almost stop, but continue. Thal is never one to notice girls. Bloody witch isn’t even eager to have a mate. Doesn’t mix that much with girls. Doesn’t even have a girlfriend. Never had one. He can’t wait to go on that spiritual witch journey. How come he notices Alexa? Alexa with hair that burns gold in the sunlight. Her rosy cheeks… Wait. What am I doing? I’m not describing Alexa, right? Before I can continue, the kitchen door opens and Aunt Nicole appears. Her brown eyes sweep over our faces then down to the items in our hands. Arms crossed an amused smile on her face. “Raiding my kitchen again?” she says as she approaches us.
