CHAPTER 3

ALEXA KADEN AGAIN The air outside is cooler. As if I needed the calm after the scene with Macy. I watch students in the parking lot in clusters — laughing, flirting, shoving each other playfully. Some running towards their parents waiting cars. That carefree nature youngsters have about them. Tessa’s parents are already waiting. Waving at us. I wave back at them as we approach. “Sure, you don’t want to come?” she groans, dreading the dinner already. “Maybe some other time,” I say. “Enjoy dinner with your folks.” I add with a smirk. “Learn how to perfect the ‘mate look’. “Haha…very funny,” she says, bumping my shoulder playfully. I greet her parents, refusing their offer to join them. “See you tomorrow future Doctor Alexa,” Tessa teases as she slides into the car. I grin. “That’s the plan.” After they leave, I call my dad to tell him I’m heading to the hospital. “Hey, pumpkin.” His voice always softens when he talks to me. Unlike when he’s running drills at training. “Heading to the hospital now.” “Stay safe. No wandering into the forest.” He advises as usual. “And call me when you close. I’ll pick you up.” “I will. Love you.” “Love you too, pumpkin.” My dad likes knowing my whereabouts even while at school. He still harbors the fear of losing me. My Mom’s sister, Aunt Millie, the Dragon Queen, had kidn*pped me with the help of my grandma. Using me as leverage to force my mom to help them attack and take over the pack. In the process she had injured my dad. Almost making him lose his life. He still hasn’t gotten over it, but he allows my Mom and I to visit her. And let’s her children come visit too. The phone is still in my hand when a horn blares behind me. The sound’s familiarity makes my heart react before my brain does. I don’t need to turn back to know who it is. Yet I still do. That familiar black Jeep with tinted windows, idling at the curb. Kaden leans an arm out the window. Sunglasses rest against his red hair that’s catching the last glow of the setting sun. Macy sits beside him, lips pursed, posture stiff, arms crossed, glaring at me. At the back is Thalorien all dressed in black on his phone. And Adrian, his face buried in a book. Behind them there’s another Jeep with the Alpha twins in front, Lucius, the future Gamma, in the back. And Melvin, future Head Doctor of the pack, engrossed in a biology book. “Lost, Miss Alexa?” Kaden calls. “Need a ride?” chuckling and laughing. “Or you need pointers in the right direction.” “I’m fine,” I say, moving as fast as my legs can carry me away from him. “It’s a long walk,” he replies, trailing me. “Wouldn’t want you to get lost.” I almost tell him to get lost. “I don’t mind walking.” What’s with this guy and picking me? Nathan leans out of the second vehicle. “Ignore him, Alexa. We’ve got space at the back.” “No, thanks,” I say politely. “I prefer walking.” Other than Kaden, no one in their group bullies me. And they always speak up for me. Kaden laughs. “Yeah, we know. Gotta keep up that ‘all bones, no curves’ aesthetic.” Macy giggles. “Flesh and bones.” Thrusting her busty chest forward as if it’s a trophy. To show me how much I lack in that department. Something inside me snaps. “Go eat s**t, Kaden Campbell! You too Macy! You both deserve each other.” With that I turn on my way to the hospital. His laughter trailing behind me. I wish I can make him pay for calling me that. There’s nothing wrong with my slim figure. I’m just like my mother. Dark blond hair, green eyes, tall and slim. A body fit with years of training with my dad. Yeah, Kaden and his egghead bimbo can both eat s**t. I’m proud of my body and looks. I rethink my decision to report him to the Alphas. There’s no need. None of the punishments from the Alphas or his parents have ever deterred Kaden from still picking on me. Rather, it seemed to spur him on. Like adding more fuel to the flames of his abnormal desire to bully me. I gave up a long time ago when I noticed and just learnt to live with it. Though, over time, I became bolder, learning to face him. Speak back. Stand up to him. Not let him think I am weak or scared of him. I am a Gamma from my mother’s side. My father is a Delta and the Head Warrior of the pack. Two strong bloodlines. And I refuse to act weak just because the future Beta enjoys tormenting me. I have two more months to go before the end of my final year. And be free from Kaden.
