ALEXA
The Girl’s Locker Room
The locker room hums with energy. The usual post-practice energy. Lockers opening and closing as conversations flowed. The name of a hot boy mentioned, the new couple in town, who got a look from their crush.
Just the usual from any girl’s locker room.
My body craves for a warm shower after all the running around the floor chasing a ball. And dealing with that jerk future Beta.
Tessa hoists her bag down from her shoulder and sits down. “You okay?”
“Trying to be.” I groan and meaning it. “I’ve survived worse. Just another day at school”
“And facing Kaden Campbell.” She adds with a sigh. “That boy is obsessed with you.”
“He’s possessed,” I correct. “Maybe with an evil spirit that was sent from hell to make school hell for me.”
“If he’s from hell, he would be more intense than this,” she laughs and moves toward her locker. “Mom and dad are coming to pick me up for dinner. Coming?”
“No. Heading to the hospital after school.”
“Wish you did,” she sighs. “they always ignore me. Have only eyes for each other. Kissing like teenagers.”
“Mine’s worse,” I chuckle.
Yeah. My parents can hardly not touch when they’re in the same place. Dad’s hands would always find mom’s. She would always want to touch his face. And before you know it they start kissing.
And the kissing part?
It's so intense that it sends my brother, Calvin and I racing away from them most times.
Actually, even before they do. It all starts with that look. Dreamy. As if the world doesn’t exist. Only the two of them.
Dad calls it the ‘Mate look’.
“Mate look?” Tessa snorts. “More like being lost.”
“Lost in the eyes of your mate,” I add as I face my locker.
She turns to hers also.
Just as I twist the handle, and start pulling off my shirt the door suddenly slams shut, almost snagging my finger. The metal door vibrates just inches away from my face.
I jerk back, startled. Snatch the shirt off my head, eyes full blown in panic. “What is wrong with you?!” I yell at the culprit.
Macy.
Kaden’s girlfriend.
A towel is wrapped around her waist. Her arms are crossed, eyes blazing. “Think you’re funny?” she asks.
“I think you’ve becoming feral like your boyfriend.” I retort, before reopening my locker calmly.
Noting the stares of others on us. Tessa included.
She suddenly grabs my arm, her fingers digging into my skin. “I’m talking to you, slut!” she shrieks in her.
With much strength, I snap my hand free, startling her. “Don’t you ever touch me!” I growl, facing her. “And never call me a slut.”
She masks her shock fast. “Yet you’re always in his face.”
I roll my eyes. “You’re delirious. Both of you.”
“Am I? Why is it that the two of you are always bickering? Always fighting, arguing over something. Always reporting him.” She accuses.
“Really? You’re accusing me of that?” I scoff at this deluded b***h. “Maybe you should ask your boyfriend why he likes to pick on me.” I counter. “Maybe he’s bored of you and needs a new attraction.”
Murmurs, gasps and giggles fill the air around us. Macy is the number queen bee of the pack. Her father is a high ranking officer in the pack. And she doesn’t fail to make people know she’s his daughter.
Even if my father outranks her dad. He’s the Head Warrior.
Macy’s nostrils flare, her eyes scanning the place fast. Her killer glare sweeping the place.
A few girls turn away quickly. The ones not strong enough to be her next victims.
She returns her gaze to me. “This is a warning. Stay away from Kaden.” She warns.
“No. Tell him to stay away from me. I don’t like him. I don’t want to have anything to do with him.”
“Could have fooled me.”
“Please. I’d rather a rogue chase me than that pompous beta?”
“Maybe you like the attention,” she smirks. “You like him looking at you. Talking to you…”
My eyes roll in their sockets as I laugh, sharp and humorless. “Trust me. If I wanted attention, I wouldn’t steal yours.”
The room goes deathly still. Someone coughs to hide a laugh. It’s Tessa.
Macy’s fists curl tight as she steps closer. “Last warning. Stay away from Kaden.” She says icily.
I step closer. “Tell him to stay away from me.”
Her jaw tightens. “And don’t you dare report him today.”
“Or what?”
“It’s his last strike.” She says. “One more strike and he will be sent to camp.”
Camp meant where the former leaders of the pack teach troublesome young members like Kaden lessons in leadership. And it’s not all just talk, but heavy physical and training sessions.
“Maybe he should be sent to camp.” I reply back. “Maybe he will learn some manners and how to be a beta fit to lead the Firestone Pack.”
“I’m warning you, Alexa. Don’t make them send him away.”
I shake my head and turn away. “Whatever.”
I hear her leave and the room comes alive again.
