CHAPTER 4: The Contract Alliance
“Are you waiting for Tiffany?” I asked as I sat beside the almighty Alpha Julian Kristen of the Blackwood pack in the D’allore Wolf Suites where he had booked an appointment to see my sister.
“Where is Tiffany?” He asked, and I could tell that he was surprised to see me because we never really talked much. The few times we had talked was when he would come to Mother Ruby’s art sales or auction, and he would give nice comments on my works. He appreciated every piece of my art, which was the only thing we had ever spoken about.
I had never imagined myself having this conversation with Alpha Julian Kristen, but right now, he is a treasure I could not afford to lose to my enemies.
“Well, I have a business proposal for you,” I said, ignoring his question. “One I know you will be interested in, Alpha Julian.”
“What?” Julian gasped in awe as he pulled off his sunglasses, staring into my hazel eyes while I stared into his piercing blue eyes.
I cleared my throat as I kept my gaze fixed on him.
“I’ll cut to the chase. How about, Alpha Julian Kristen? I will become your mate and Luna instead of Tiffany.”
“Alpha Zenobia?” Julian said as he gasped in shock.
“Yes, I am Alpha Zenobia, and I am proposing a contract marriage alliance with you,” I stated my intentions clearly.
“How about Luc…”
“I rejected him,” I said confidently, not wanting to hear that name again.
“Why should I accept this alliance with you?” Alpha Julian asked, looking at me with enthusiasm.
“Because I will offer you your biggest desires that Tiffany will never be able to fulfill,” I said.
“You know why I am getting married to Tiffany?” He asked.
“Yes and I will offer you something better, all you have to do is accept me as your mate,” I said.
“What are you offering?” He asked.
I paused for a moment before I continued, just to make sure that I was getting my words in order.
“Make me your mate and Luna and I will get the business deal you are working on to make your pack stronger,” I said.
“Are you saying that you would allow the Blackwood and the Shadow Moon pack to work together?” Alpha Julian asked.
“Yes, and I will make it legal, and not just that, I will also help you find out who has been stealing your pack resources,” I added, to make my offer irresistible.
A heavy silence followed after my words, my nails tapping together as I waited for his response.
I c****d my head to the side, trying to read his expression, but as always, he remained stoic and unreadable.
A deep chuckle finally rumbled in his chest, breaking the silence between us.
“You are more fun than I thought. Quite different from the rumors and what I know about you.” He said.
“Trust me, you don't know me at all,” I said, knowing fully well what he meant by what he said earlier. I am no longer the dumb, naive, and soft-hearted girl from my previous life.
“Really?”
His laughter was low and short, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes as he looked at me from my perfectly styled hair down to the heels.
“Do you accept this alliance or not?” I asked, not ready for any jokes.
“Why do you want this? What would you gain from this alliance?” He asked.
“I am the first female Alpha to be chosen by the moon goddess and my pack members have insisted that the only way I can claim my position and rights is by having a mate. They won't accept me as their head unless I have a mate,” I explained.
“So this contract is until you can prove to them that you are capable of being the Alpha on your right?’’ Alpha Julian asked.
“Yes, which means we must work together until that is achieved,” I said.
“But you know a contract marriage is heresy. It's against the pack rules, right? Both pack at that.” Julian said.
“Which is why it would be our little secret. No one needs to know about it,” I said, smiling at him.
“I love your audacious spirit.” He said, staring at me with a leering gaze.
“I believe we have an agreement then,” I said, happy that it worked easier than expected.
“I believe this is yours then.” He said, bringing out a small box and I could guess what it was already. He opened it with a shiny diamond ring sitting on its lace.
“Alpha Julian? Sister?” A loud questioning voice rang from the side, followed by a loud gasp. My head turned to the side, my eyes meeting those of Tiffany, who had just joined us at the table.
“It took you long enough to get here,” I murmured to myself as I smiled at her.
Tiffany’s eyes darted from me to Alpha Julian until they fell on the diamond ring he was holding. Her eyes widened, and I could guess what she was thinking.
She laughed awkwardly, masking the look of confusion in her eyes.
“Why are you two together? Alpha Julian, you are here for our mating ceremony conversation. My mother has been waiting for you to arrive.”
Alpha Julian ignored her question with his eyes still fixated on me.
Noticing the tension between us, Tiffany swooped to my side with her hands closed around my arms as she stared at me with a small smile laced with shock on her lips.
“Umm, sister Zenny, can I speak with you for a moment?” She asked.
Just before I could say anything, Alpha Julian interrupted her. “Tiffany, as you can see, we are busy right now.” Alpha Julian said, which caught me by surprise also.
“Alpha Zenobia Moon, do you accept to be my mate and Luna?” Julian said, holding the rings, ready to slip them through my middle finger.
“Sis… Sister Zenny, you can't do this.” Tiffany said with a mixture of anger and pain in her eyes.
“Well, you can just watch me do it,” I said as the memory of how she killed me flashed through my mind.
“I accept you, Alpha Julian Kristen, as my mate and Alpha,” I said as he slipped the rings into my fingers with onlookers watching. I know this mate alliance would not be accepted easily by both packs, but I must collect the ring, especially in the presence of Tiffany.
I could feel Tiffany’s anger, but she had no idea what I had in store for her. “Sister Zenny, Lucian was supposed to be your mate. Why… Why would you go after mine?” She asked tearfully. Anyone who would see her right now would think she is a saint, not knowing she is a devil in disguise.
Mating with Alpha Julian has just broken her foundation plan of getting me killed. The next person I need to have a word with would be Glenn.
The experience from my previous life has just proved that he is the only one I can trust in my pack for now.
“Well, you can have him to yourself now. I mean he is yours, right?” I whispered into her ears, which made her stare at me in terror.
“You should leave now,” I added.
She stared at me again before she turned to face Alpha Julian holding his hands.
“Alpha Julian, you can’t…”
Just before Tiffany could utter any more words, he moved at a sudden pace towards me, and he leaned in, cupped my face in his hands, gently pressed his lips against mine in a small peck, and then smiled at me. As I studied his features, I could see him more clearly.
Neat scruff, a muscular body that was visible under his designer suit, and a deep voice that would make any girl swoon at his feet. I had to stop myself from rolling my eyes at him and Tiffany’s voice made that easy for me to do.
“Tiffany, you should leave.” He said with his arms still wrapped around me.
“I am not going anywhere!.” She blurted out angrily, and I could hear the frustration in her voice.
“Thumph!” I gave her a resounding slap for even thinking she could raise her voice at me.
“Zenny…”
“It's Alpha Zenobia!” I said, staring back at her angrily, and I could tell that Alpha Julian was utterly surprised by my reaction.
