Chapter 10

1055 Words
On our way back to the mansion, I felt that presence again. I stopped and turned in the direction of that tree from the funeral picnic. I started walking in that direction. "What is it, Adeera?" Abrham asks. "I feel that presence from the place where my parents died." I walked to where it was strongest, at the tree. Again, though, there was nobody around.  I was about to turn around and leave, but a faint scent hit my nose. It smelled like a summer breeze and dark chocolate.  Alex started acting weird in my mind.  Me: Alex, what's wrong with you? Alex: Not sure, but we need to find out who's scent that is. I nodded at her in my mind.  We will. "Do you guys smell that?" They walked over to where I was, "Yeah there is a new scent in the air?"  Abrham didn't say anything for a minute, "It's like this person wants you to know he's here."  I nod, I think so too. The question is why? Alex: Rogues, south border. We shift, tearing our clothes and Alex runs to the south. We get there just as rogues run for patrol. Alex runs for one that is about to jump on a warrior. We grab it by the neck and break it easily. This goes on for another thirty minutes, before the rest turn back and retreat. Although, several are alive and... strung up by the ankles in... trees.  That's strange, I look for an extra shirt and shorts in the trees before shifting back.  "Who is responsibly for this?" I motion at the six rogues stung up naked in the trees.  Nobody said anything and they all started looking at each other.  "Alright, get them down and in cells!"  They do as I told them to and I start looking to see if any of our warriors are dead or hurt. "Abrham, any casualties on our side?"  "No, just a few injured. If you hadn't been here, there would have been casualties." He looks grim as he speaks.  I nod, I know he's right. I didn't notice before, but that presence followed us here. If I had to guess, I'd say whoever wants my attention helped us out today. I look around, hoping to see anything, but there's nothing.  Austin heads back to the mansion with me while Abrham finishes dealing with the dead rogues.  "I want to talk to those rogues this afternoon." Austin nods and we walk in silence.  When we get to the mansion, I go up to my room to shower and change. Afterwards, I go to check in on Sean. Sheila is reading Huckleberry Finn to Sean so I just sit next to him and listen for a while.  Eventually I get up and go to get more work done. I finish and make my way to the dungeon, I wonder if the rogues know how they ended up in trees. I laugh, it was quite a sight! Austin and Abrham were waiting for me. The only helpful information that I got was that they were to kill as many as possible. It sounds like the last attack, except my parents were part of the kill list.  Were my parents the main target or were they a bonus? Was the purpose of this attack and the last one to kill as many as possible? I was angry before about my parents, but now I'm getting frustrated. Who is the leader? What is their purpose?  I showered again and was about to go see Sean, but I felt pulled back to that tree again. So I went. This time, I saw a man sitting in the tree. He was watching me walk towards him. I knew he wasn't one of my pack members and that the presence I have been feeling belonged to him. His scent soon reached me.  Alex: Mate! My heart both fell and rose with hope. I want a mate, but it's hard not to be afraid.  I keep walking to him and he begins to climb down. The closer we got, the more butterflies I had flying in my stomach. When we were finally in front of each other, we just stared for several moments. He has beautiful caramel hair and soft chocolate eyes.  "My angel you have been through so much, I'm sorry I couldn't come to you before now." He opened his arms and I rushed into him. As he held me, I cried. I cried for the heartache of my parents' death, the heartache of Larze, and my heartache for what Sean had gone through. My mate lets me cry and uses one hand to rub circles on my back, the other he has in my hair holding me close.  When I'm done, he pulls us down to sit. He leans up against the tree and has me lean my back against his chest. As he wraps his arms around me, I feel so cherished.  "What's your name?"  "Walter." "I'm Adeera, my wolf's name is Alex." "You're parents told me about you, they were really proud of you." "You were with them that morning, weren't you?" He tightens his hold a little, "I was. I tried to save them, protect them. Somehow they got separated from each other. I tried to stay with your mom, but she wanted me with your father. On my way back to your father, I was cornered by to many rogue wolves. I'm so sorry." I looked up at him and he was crying, I turned so I could wipe his tears away and look at him in the eyes. "I don't blame you. Thank you for trying to save them. I blame whoever was behind the attack. I haven't been able to find out anything helpful to lead us to the leader."  "I know who the leader is." He never looked away, but there was fear in his eyes. Whoever this person is, he must be powerful. Alex: Not more powerful than us. I rolled my eyes at her, but she was right. As of yet, no one matches our power.  "Who is it and what exactly is their end goal?" "He is a demon, no one knows his name. His end goal is to rule over all the species." Well shit...
