The story of the wind
At night you can hear the wind singing if you are listening carefully. My mother said the wind holds secrets and lures children into the forest. I thought she was telling the story to scare us away from the dangers of the night. I never thought the story was true and now I regret not believing it.
My mother told me the story about the wind singing and how the forest takes children at night since I was a heartbeat in her stomach. I loved the story just as much as my brother does now. He is 25 months with gold-blonde hair and big brown eyes. He looks like my mother, beautiful, innocent and pure joy. I am a copy of my father, long, thick black hair, grey eyes and skin white as snow. My father's a carpenter and my mother's a fortune teller. We are known as the Children of the night due to our ancestors. Our ancestors says have been vampires and witches, but no one knows. Our name have lived on for centuries without no one actually knowing our past. My father tells me that our name is untrue, there no such things as vampires and witches, while my mother tells me the stories of the forest and the singing wind. My brother smiles every time he hears the stories, laughs in her arms while she puts him to sleep. I am terrified of the night and the secrets the forest holds, I have lit candles in my room at night and my windows closed, I do not laugh at the stories or can be put to sleep as fast as my brother, but when he grows up I believe he will be just like me, hiding under the covers in my bed, singing high and loud so the Wind doesn't take me. I sing the same melody every night, my mother taught me the melody when I was seven and hiding in her room, covering my ears so I would not hear the wind calling for me. Now my high voice shuts down the wind. I lay in my bed with covers over my head while singing the melody until my eyes shut.
Every morning looks the same, sun is escaping the hole in my curtain and pokes me in the eyes until I wake up. I blink over 50 times to get rid of the water in my eyes and braids my long hair in five small braids. My feet touch the cold wooden floor and I get dressed in brown pants and a white sleeve shirt. "Dakota" I hear my mother call as I walk towards her room. She is sitting on the bed holding my brother in her hands. My father has left for the forest an hour ago and my mother is waiting for me to take my brother so she can go to her tent. I take my brother in my arms and leave my mother to change her clothes. She comes out in a black dress, covering her face with a black mask, only her brown eyes are uncovered. Her blonde hair is hidden and she walks towards me, gives me a kiss on my cheek and slips out the front door. No sound are made after her, she disappears into the village without being recognized by the people moving in the streets. I close the door with my brother over my shoulder. He is screaming and fighting with his small arms, crying after food to satisfy his empty stomach. I put him on the floor, crying and screaming as I look for his bowl. I find the bowl on the wooden table my father has carved out of oak, he is talented and have built furniture to everyone in the village, he is the best carpenter in the North, says the villages. I take the empty bowl and makes porridge with berries from our garden and gives it to my brother. He eats with his small hands and I dry his tears with my sleeve. I leave him on the floor as I go to the garden and starts to pick apples. Red and green apples. "What pretty apples you got" I hear an unknown voice behind me. I turn around and my eyes meet dark, almost black ones. They belong to a young man with darker skin and black curly hair. His lips are pink and his smile is pure. His cheekbones are high and his jawline is sharp as a knife. But my eyes can't stop looking at his. They are dark caves and I feel like I am being captured in them. "Archfiend" he introduce himself with. "Dakota" I whisper back to him while I shake his hand. His hand is like ice, cold and slippery. His skin is like air, soft, fragile, almost untouchable. He takes my hand to his lips and kisses it gently. "Pleasure to meet you Dakota" he says and lets go of my hand and walks away. I blink and he is gone.
I sit in the green grass under the apple tree, blinking and trying to collect myself. I have a thousand questions and no answers. He is not from here or he just moved here, I think to myself. Where did he go? And where did he come from? A thousand questions and I still lack answers. My brother screams from the kitchen and I run to him. My questions will have to wait. My brother is sitting on the floor as I left him. His bowl is empty and his fingers full of porridge, so I take him in my arms and carries him along the river until our bridge. I put him down on the ground and takes of his black shirt, leaving him in his underwear and I take of my pants and shirt. The water is cold and blue as the sky. My brother screams when I pour water over his back until he calms down. The river is silent and the wind is slow...slower than usually. My brother touch the surface of the water and he laughs. His laugh is light and makes my heart melt. I scrub him with the sponge I brought with us. He laughs and claps in the water until I am all wet. "Thank you Adrian" I say irritated to him. He smiles big at me and I can't stop myself from smiling back at him. I carry him to the ground and puts his clothes back on and then I get dressed. I notice the sky changing colors from blue to orange and my blood starts to rush in my body. "Let's go home now, my love" I whisper in Adrian's ear. I put him over my shoulder and he hold onto me while I run towards home. The sky is turning red and the sun is setting. The night is longer than the mornings here in North. I run with Adrian laying on my shoulder while he laughs. The wind is quiet but I hear single tones. I can see our house and my legs starts to hurt. I run to the door and close it when we are inside. I put down my brother on the floor and my blood starts to rush through my body. Close the curtains, I hear voices say to me. My hands finds the lock on the window and I close the curtains so no one can see in. The wind is getting louder and the tones higher. My brother sits on the floor clapping his hands to the wind. I start to sing the melody my mother taught me and he starts to yawn. "Come on, let's get you to bed" I say to Adrian while I carry him to his bed. "Story" he says quiet and points at me with his small finger. "Once upon a time, when the world was full of darkness, there was a melody. A melody sung by a beautiful angel. He sang to the wind when there were a storm, he sang to the wind when there were rain, he sang to the wind when the world were silent. One day the wind stopped hearing his song and the world was quiet again. The wind missed him and wished that he would return but he never did... He was gone and so was his song. The wind got worried about the missing angel and started to sing the melody to find the angel. But the wind never did and sang the melody for decades and centuries, luring children to it, hoping to one day find him". Adrian is already asleep when the last world leaves my lips. He lays in his bed with his mind clear. Mine on the other hand is full with questions from the man I met in the garden.
I hear the wind calling though the ceiling and I hide behind Adrian's crib. My voice is quiet and I am shaking behind the crib. I can't sing next to Adrian because he will wake up so I cover my ears. Mother please come home I wish for myself but no one comes to save me from the wind. My hands starts to cramp and I have to change grip, I uncover my ears and I hear the song louder and louder. "Dakota" I hear.
"Dakota, come my love".
My head is empty and my eyes are watering. My mouth opens wide but I can't get out a word. It feels like I am under a spell because I am empty of thoughts, words and air. My throat is hurting, it feel like knifes are cutting it open. I need air. Now. I run to the door and slams in open. The knifes in my throat disappears but it is to late. I hear the wind in my ears and in my head.
"Dakota, come to me".
My legs starts to walk forward to the forest. My eyes are burning of tears but I can't stop. My legs keeps following the wind.
"Come here... Dakota".
My arms are fighting but my legs are still moving towards the forest. I can't scream nor say a word, my voice is gone.
I hear the wind calling my name again and my legs starts running. Into the forest, between oaks, bushes and three branches. No one can stop me. The song gets louder and louder and my tears fall down my cheeks. In my head it is now chaos. Thoughts spinning and wishes begging me to break free. Suddenly I hear a voice, like honey, a voice I know. It is him, from the garden. I hear him but the wind is louder.
"Dakota my love, come to me. I won't hurt you" the wind whispers.
My heart is pumping in my chest I can feel my body shiver from the cold. My feet hurts from running but I can't be stopped. I hear the man again. He is calling my name. The wind over power his voice and makes me run even faster.
But then I fall into someone's chest. "Dakota, stop" the man from the garden says.
"Let me go" I scream. "I need to go" I scream even louder. "LET ME GO".
"Dakota stop, cover you ears now" he says trying to hold my body from running, my tears are running down my cheeks faster.
"Let me go, it needs me" I cry out while sinking into the ground with his arms around me. He hold me close while I cry to his chest. I look up to him and sees his eyes shift from dark red to black. I blink and the other color is gone. It was a second, only a second but I saw it. I think I saw it. My body is shaking and he is holding me close while covering my ears, protecting me from the wind. His cloak is warming me. But my tears won't stop falling.
"It is okay Dakota, you are safe" he whispers in my ear. "I am here with you".
I cry out on his shoulders while he comforts me.
"I'm sorry" the words slips out from my mouth. He holds my head against his chest and kisses my head. I feel safe, warm and I feel sparkles on my skin from his kiss. "Come, I will take you home with me" he says and carry's me in his arms.
He lays me down in a wooden bed with black covers. He pulls the covers over my cold body and sits down behind me. His arms protects my chest and he gives me a kiss on the neck. "You are safe now... the wind just misses his angel" he whispers and holds me close. I feel safe. My body is calm and hot from his touch. My stomach is twisting in my body and my skin is burning from his hands. I have never felt like this before. My body is in fire and flames are burning inside of it. They want to be let out...
"Archfiend... please touch me" I beg. My heart is beating fast and my body is getting hotter. He smiles behind me and touches my neck gently. His cold fingers linger over my shoulders and spine. Invisible flames are escaping my back and I gasp for air. His touch is cold yet hot. My eyes are full of desire and my mouth is sweaty. I can feel his eyes on my neck and his soft lips are leaving wet kisses and they burn into my skin. He turns me over, so I lay on my back and he places his hands on my sides as he lays over me. Archfiend places kisses along my neck and moves towards my chest. My heart is beating fast, pumps up and down. I want him. I need him. I am scared and full of desire. He kisses me down the chest and stops at my pants. He looks up on me with burning red eyes but I don't care about the color change, I need him. "I beg you" I whisper to the ceiling and he places kisses on my inner thigh. My pants are falling of me like a raindrop falling from the sky. The flames are getting bigger and stronger. They are escaping my body with a sound of pleasure. I can see the flames burn from my toes to my chest. "Dakota" he says out of breath. "You body...". He can see them too. I am not imagining them leaving, he sees them too.
"Archfiend, don't stop" I beg and shut my eyes so the darkness in my eyes can't be seen. "I have never felt like this before".
He keeps kissing me and touching me and smiles against my skin. The flames eats him up but he can't feel them. They are made for him. I shut my eyes harder and let another sound of pleasure escape my lips. He puts one finger inside of me and I gasp for air. No one has ever touched me before and I have never wanted to be touched until now.
"Dakota, if I bed you. You will be mine only" he says against my skin, gently but with seriousness. I nod and looks at him. His eyes are red like blood, but I smile at him and nod again. He puts another finger into me and I scream. He hears my scream and pushes himself into me. My eyes are shaking in my eyeballs and my flames are eating of his chest. I take his chin in my hand and kisses him on the lips. Sparkles. Fire. Desire and possession. I can taste feelings and thoughts. I dig my fingers into his back until my fingertips are red with blood. He gasps and goes deeper. "Mine" he whispers dark. "Mine, only mine" he says louder as his teeth digs into my neck. I cry out. My blood is escaping my body as my heart pumps faster.
"Bite me" he says as my blood drops on my bare chest. My body twist at his words. "Dakota bite me".
I nod at his words and dig my teeth into his flesh. Iron. My teeth dips deeper and red thick liquid escapes though the holes between my teeth. Blood. He gasps for air as I keep filling my mouth with liquid. "Stop" he commands and kisses me in my mouth. Our blood swirls in our mouths, reunites us. He swallows the blood and tells me to swallow his. He smiles at me and his eyes turn red. I smile back at him while blood drips from my teeth. Then everything goes black.
Heartbeat. No. Heartbeats. Two heartbeats. Slow and loud.
