The morning passed in a flurry of laughter. The lake was beautiful, like almost everything in this rugged terrain. The horizon was completely unmarred by humans. All the eye could see was mile after mile of beautiful woodlands and heathland, stretching in every direction, all culminating in the centre of a vast expanse of water. The ice was thick over the top ensuring that we were safe enough to walk across it without worrying about breaking through and plunging into the freezing depths. Alexander had been right, the area was sheltered from the worst of the winter weather, meaning that we could skate happily without the bitterness of the wind interfering. We spent a happy morning.
