Chapter 13

Claire I took a deep breath as I leaned over the bathroom sink. My mind was racing as I contemplated whether or not to make my move tonight. It scared me how my body reacted to being so close to Blake. We spent the last four days straight together watching movies, and now I was sleeping in his room. He has to feel something too, right? I know I wanted more; to see where this could go, but something in the back of my head told me to walk away. "I can do this," I whispered to myself, "you will never know unless you try." With one last deep breath I fixed my shirt and left the bathroom. Blake was sitting on the couch with a piece of pizza in his hand. His gaze left the tv and he locked eyes with me. I ignored his eyes as I walked to the couch, taking my seat. "Is that my shirt?" Blake asked as he placed the piece of pizza on his plate and turned to face me. I could feel his eyes burning through me as I tried not to squirm in my seat. A slow smile crept onto my face as I slowly looked at him from the corner of my eye. His gaze bore into me, hunger lurking beneath the icy depth. I felt a shiver run through my body as my gaze drifted down to his hands. They were balled into tight fists, like he was holding himself back. In that moment I felt like I was a grazing gazelle and Blake was the lion waiting to pounce. My body jumped as a piercing scream came from the tv. Breaking eye contact, I faced the tv to see a blonde girl on the phone pleading to a creepy voice on the other line as she backed away from the front door. The one thing I could not handle were horror movies. "Really Blake," I whined, "you had to pick a scary movie?" I could hear the laugh behind his words as he spoke to me. "If you're scared you could always come closer." He stretched out his left arm and laid it over the back of the couch. It was as if he was inviting me into his arms. My body and mind were at war with each other on what to do. The ache in my body wanted me to curl up in his arms, even if I was afraid. But my mind did not want to give in to his dark desires. A part of me wanted to stay inside my little bubble. I mentally threw my hands up and gave in to temptation. *** We were to the final climatic scene of the movie; I was curled up at Blake's side with a blanket up to my chin. Blake seemed to find it funny how much of a baby I was with horror movies. A part of me knew he did this on purpose, to make me lie with him. I flinched every time a knife was stabbed into someone's body. As the two killers started stabbing each other to cover their tracks I leaned further into Blake's side. The sudden feeling of his hand on my leg took my attention off the movie. Now all I could focus on was how his fingertips lightly ran circles over my bare thigh. A shiver ran down my back and goosebumps rose on my arms as I ached for more. A soft breath was by my ear, as Blake whispered to me, "you doing okay?" I could feel his lips brush my temple, before backing away. All I could muster was a nod as I glanced up at him under my eye lashed. His blue eyes were bright as he stared down at me. Slowly I reached up and softly ran my fingertips down his face, before cupping his cheek. His eyes shut as he released a deep breath. I could feel his heart rate increase as his hand gripped my hip. With the placement of his hand, I felt a rush of warmth rush to my cheeks as an ache ran through my panties. "You're killing me," Blake breathlessly whispered. My hand dropped from his face, resting on his chest. Building up my courage, my heart rate started to increase as I slowly started to get up. I turned my body, swinging my left leg around so I was sitting in his lap. "f**k," he moaned. I wrapped my arms around his neck and brought my face down to his. Resting my forehead against his, I whispered his name. Slowly his eyes opened and stared deeply into mine. The once bright blue eyes were now a steely grey color as lust emitted from his hard stare. I pulled him close and softly brought my lips down to his. Hunger took over as he pulled me in deeper. His hands snaking around my waist, as his hand tangled in my hair. That's what I wished would have happened. I was not prepared for what actually happened. Something changed inside Blake. His face softened as he grabbed my waist and set me on the couch to his side. "I'm sorry Claire," he whispered sadly before disappearing out the balcony. I could hear him run off into the woods, leaves crunching under foot. I could hear the end credits rolling in the background as I stared at my hands in my lap. Tears started to well in my eyes as I replayed everything that happened in my mind. I could not wrap my head around what I did wrong. I thought Blake felt the same, but I guess he didn't. I felt warm drops of water slowly roll down my cheeks, falling into my lap. The movie auto replayed as I curled onto my side and silently wept. Thunder cracked in the distance as my eyes got heavy. Silent sobs shook my body as my eyes drifted closed. Blake's blue eyes haunted my dreams the rest of the night.
