The late night encounter
Laura's POV
I locked my office door, exhausted from a long day of designing luxurious interiors. My mind lingered on the Smithson's penthouse project, ensuring every detail was perfect. As I walked out into the crisp evening air, the city's vibrant nightlife enveloped me. "A perfect time for a quiet stroll" l said to myself.
The streets were dimly lit, with only a few stragglers hurrying to their destinations. I quickened my pace, all I hear it the sound of my heels clicking on the sidewalk. Suddenly, I see a figure emerge from the shadows.
"It's rather late for a pretty girl like you to be walking alone, don't you think sweetheart?" a gruff voice says.
My heart starts racing, I clutch my bag tighter. "No!" I say, with as much courage as I can.
His strong hand grasped my shoulder, spinning me around. But before the mugger could land a blow, a dark figure intervene.
"Let her go," a low, commanding voice growls.
The mugger's eyes widens as a tall, imposing man steps into the light. My rescuer towers over my attacker, his broad shoulders and chiseled features radiating authority.
With a snarl, the mugger flees into the night. The rescuer turned to me, concern etched on his face.
"Are you alright?"
I nod, still shaken. "Y-yes, thank you."
Our eyes meet, and I feel an inexplicable jolt. His piercing gaze seems to see right through me, into my very soul. I take in the sharp angles of his face, the strong jawline, and the dark hair that falls across his forehead.
"Why the hell are you walking alone at this hour? Don't you know it's dangerous" his deep voice brings me back to life, as much as it soothes my frazzled nerves, it scares me as well.
"I needed some fresh air," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper.
As if he can sense that I can't bring myself to move my feet he offers me his arm, and I take it without thinking. As we walked together, the city's dangers seemed to recede, replaced by a sense of safety and security.
"Where are you headed?" He asks.
"Home," I replied. "Just a few blocks away."
Our walk is filled with comfortable silence, the only sound is our footsteps on the pavement. I can't shake the feeling that he is watching me, protecting me.
"I'm also going that way, " he says without looking my way.
As we reach my apartment building, He releases my arm, his touch lingering on my skin.
"Thank you again," I say, smiling up at him.
His eyes locks onto mine, and for an instant, I see something primal, something wild, lurking beneath the surface.
"No need to thank me, " he says, his voice low and husky. "I'll make sure you're safe."
And with that, he vanishes into the night, leaving me wondering if I had imagined the whole encounter.
