Invitation

Genevive's POV
I was in my office when the phone rang.
“Hello?” I answered.
“This is Alpha Aldren.” I heard a husky voice say.
“Hello Alpha, How are you?” I asked, trying not to let him know my heart skipped a beat when I heard his voice.
"Fine, listen I confirmed the information you gave me."
"Really? And?"
"I guess I owe you a favor."
I sighed," I'm not gonna lie, I was hoping it wasn't true."
" Why is that?"
" I know you'll probably want to act before they do."
"So? What 's it to you?"
"I live in this world don't I? War is never pleasant for anyone. Anyways I'll keep my favor in mind. Thank you."
"We'll be in touch." He hung up before I had a chance to say anything else.
I was lost in my thoughts when my door was knocked on and Sonya came in.
"Gen, Alpha Jack is outside, he's asked to speak with you."
"Argh what does he want?"
" He didn't say." She answered, shaking her head.
Speaking with Jack was exhausting, he’s so straight forward with his intentions towards me. Jack is kind, funny and he’s cute so rejecting him was hard.
" Just let him in." I walked to my desk and sat behind it.
Jack walked in wearing black slacks with a blue buttoned shirt. He looked very good looking but luckily for me I've mastered being indifferent around him.
"Alpha, please sit. What can I do for you?"
He shook my hand and kissed it like always.
His cologne invades my nostrils, he always smells good.
He sat down with a huge grin on his face.
"So? What's on your mind?"
" My birthday is this Saturday."
I raised my eyebrow, " Happy… birthday."
"Thanks.” He answered with a grin.
“So I'm having a party and I would like for you and your sisters to come."
"You could have just called, you know." I stood up and walked to my bar and served myself some tea offering Jack some.
" And miss seeing you in those jeans? No way I wanted to see you and I had the perfect excuse. I should be on my way. You're coming right?"
I grinned at him and nodded accepting his invite and he smiled back, a big ear to ear smile.
He jumped up from his seat and rushed over to me giving me a huge hug lifting me off the floor.
"ALPHA! PUT ME DOWN! " I laughed out loud. He put me down and still had his smile on his face. I looked up at him while I was still in his arms. His aqua eyes were hypnotizing. Could I imagine being like this always? Could I lose myself in him? Could I be his? Of course I could. I could love him, it wouldn't be hard to fall for him, be his, make him mine. I've thought about this many times but I can't risk it. Let's say I accept him,I fall deeply in love with him and when he finds his mate I'll kill myself for losing him. The thought brought me back to reality and I let him go.
"Ahem, well I guess I'll see you Saturday." I began walking to the door.
Jack noticed my discomfort suddenly.
He walked after me and turned me around to face him.
He took my hands in his and pulled me close to him.
He wrapped his arms around me, I thought about pulling away but didn’t. And I confirmed my suspicions, they were awesome for cuddling.
" Gen, how can I convince you to trust me?"
"Jack…." I barely whispered.
He smiled big , “You called me Jack."
Crap I did. I just rolled my eyes in a playful manner.
" My name coming from your lips is the best present I could have ever gotten."
" Well great , now I don’t have to worry about what to get you ." I joked.
He gently placed a kiss on my forehead, and rested on mine with his eyes closed.
" Just one chance Genevive, that's all I ask. I swear I won't hurt you." He opened his eyes and stared into mine.
Goddess how am I supposed to keep rejecting this guy?
" I Know your fear Gen." I scrunched my brow not understanding.
"But I don't want a fated mate. I want you. "
I looked at him surprised nobody was supposed to know. We've kept it as a coven secret forever. Everyone thought we rejected mates for other reasons , they never realized we were never given one.
"I'm sorry, I'm interested so I Investigated everything I needed to know about you."
I slipped from his grasp and put space between us . It wasn't ok with me that he knew so much. That was my privacy, my secret and he had no right to it.
" I don't know what you think you know ,but don't presume to know my motives ,Alpha."
His smile had turned and knew he ruined the moment we just had.
"So we're back to 'Alpha'."
"If you'll excuse me Alpha I have important matters to attend to."
He dropped his shoulders in defeat and began to walk out but stopped half way.
"Please come on Saturday. I'll wait for you."
With my head held high and avoiding eye contact I answered.
"I make no promises."
He walked out and I knew I had hurt him but I felt invaded for some reason. I knew people were bound to find out our true reason for us not having mates. But it bugged me that he knew, everyone knows having a mate makes you stronger. And I did not want to seem weak in the eyes of the Alphas.
I walked out and watched Jack leave. I felt someone walk up behind me. "What did he want?" I heard Row ask.
"He came to invite us to his birthday party."
"Hmmm so…why so glim?"
I felt her hand on my shoulder and knew what she was doing. Row had an empathic ability. She could feel what someone was feeling by touch and if she was motivated enough she could alter their emotions.
"Row…don't."
"I'm sorry Master, but I don't need magic to know you're sad. What happened?"
"Nothing important, it's just Jack . He makes me forget who I am… In a good way"
"Then why the long face?"
"Because he also makes me realize all I can't have. "
" So are we going to the party?"
I over reacted with Jack and I know he really wanted me to go to his party. The least I could do was go and let him know I wasn't angry at him. Because I really wasn't, I was just shocked.
"Yeah we'll go. Let everyone know please."
