Chapter 4
SAVANNAH'S POV.
"I need you ladies to rush whatever you're doing! We can't keep moving at a slow pace! The ceremony has already started, and the bride will be called anytime from now!", The wedding coordinator barged into the dressing room to hurry everyone up.
While the whole room was looking chaotic just to make me look beautiful for my wedding, I felt a sense of emptiness.
I didn't know how long I was going to suffer in life. Sometimes I wonder if the Moon Goddess was actually watching me get punished for something I didn't do.
A wedding was something every girl dreamed of doing in a fancy hall with a handsome man that they were in love with.
And here I was, on the other hand - getting married to someone whose face I'd not seen, and whose name I didn't even know.
"My princess, we're finally done. Do you like the look?", The make-up artist questioned with a look of anticipation of a good review.
"It's alright", I muttered with an emotionless face. The make-up looked so heavy, I couldn't recognize myself anymore. The wedding gown was also too thick, but what was the point of complaining when no one really cared about how I felt?
"Okay... We'll need to put on the diamond necklace, but first, you have to remove that burnt thing hanging over your neck...", I could sense disgust in her eyes and her voice.
"I'm not taking it off", I mumbled.
"But, my princess-"
"I said, I'm not taking it off!", I suddenly flared up in frustration.
"If she wants to keep the necklace, let her be."
Everyone turned to the door and bowed immediately at the sight of the Luna.
"I need to have a word with my daughter. Leave, everyone."
Without asking any questions, everyone filed out of the room, leaving me with her.
"You look beautiful, my daughter", she complimented with a coy smile on her face as she slowly began to approach me.
"I'm not your daughter. You told me that multiple times in the past", I muttered with a nervous voice.
I heard her chuckle.
"Well, that's true. No matter how long I want to make you feel like family, you have the blood of an Omega witch flowing through your veins."
For the first time, I had the guts to look her dead in the eye, my heart full of hurt from her constant belittling.
"What did I ever do to you? Why do you hate me so much?", I questioned, a tear daring to fall down my eyes.
Instead of answering my question, she took out a handkerchief and began to clean my tears.
"I need you to know that this marriage is a one-way trip. You're getting married, and you'll never get back. This is the only opportunity I get to have my husband to myself without always thinking about you. I have gotten rid of you, and trash never shows up at the house it came from."
"Wh... What's this supposed to mean?"
"No matter what they do to you in Sylvia, endure it. Take it with good faith. Do not ever think of coming back here. If they want to kill you, let them. You're better off dead in Sylvia than dying by my own hands, because that's what will happen if you ever show your ugly, wretched self in this pack. Am I understood?"
I knew this woman hated me, but this was too much. She gave me the orders with no expression on her face whatsoever. Her eyes held no iota of compassion for me.
My mouth was too heavy to give her a reply, so I just sat there in looming silence until we heard a knock on the door. The wedding coordinator popped her head in. "It's time for her to come meet her groom, my Luna", she announced.
"Good." She turned to me. "Follow her, will you?", She said softly.
Like a lamb led to slaughter, I followed them out of the room to the wedding area.
It felt as though everyone was forced to be here. Not one wolf looked my way as I walked down the aisle.
I was soon standing in front of a stranger who was about to get married to.
His dark eyes pierced my soul. His jawline was well chiseled, and his jet black hair added to his dark demeanor.
His emotionless face told me that he was not happy with the marriage either. He gave off an aura of dangerous authority that made me feel small in front of his intimidating figure.
"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. We are gathered here today to stop the dispute between the Zecrim pack and Sylvia Kingdom by joining these two lovely souls together. We are blessed to witness such a day, and we know that this union will be the start of something marvelous in both their lives."
"Miss Savannah, do you have any vows you want to share?"
For a man I don't know about?
"No."
"Mr. Reginald", he turned to my soon-to-be husband. "Do you have any vows to give to this woman?"
He said nothing, but instead stared at me with contempt in his eyes.
"Okay. Since there's nothing to say."
"This is a mistake", he suddenly said, his baritone voice filling the air for the first time.
"You know that this cannot work. Ever. I will never be happy with this… thing as my wife, so I need to let her know..." , He took a step forward and stared at me point-blank. “Getting married to me will be the worst decision of your life, Savannah. You will be more miserable than you were with your wicked stepmother, because I hate you more than she does.”
Did...
Did I just hear him well?
Was he already rejecting me at the wedding altar?
There were gasps and looks of surprise from the audience, but no one cared to stop the wedding to save me.
Not my stepmom, not my father, nobody.
Nobody was saying anything!!
"Okay...", The elder continued like he did not just hear what Reginald said. "If there's anyone who thinks this couple should not be joined as one, please speak now, or ever hold your peace."
The eerie silence that loomed over the audience made me know that this was a trap I was not going to come out of.
"Good. Then I pronounce you both, husband and wi-"
"Over my dead body!!!", A screeching swear thundered out of nowhere.
Everyone turned to the entrance to see a young woman - beautiful, but she had a crazy look on her face. From her bloodshot eyes, it was obvious to everyone that she'd been drinking.
Who was this now?
"Over my dead body will I allow that... Wretched looking animal marry my prince! Never!", She swore in bitterness as she approached the altar, her eyes laser focused on me.
The murmurs from the small crowd held said confusion I had in my heart.
"And who are you?", the elder questioned.
"Oh, it's good that you asked!!", She said.
"I'm Rachel, the woman who the prince is supposed to be with, if not for her!", She waved her finger angrily at me.
"This wedding will not be a success!! The prince and I have been in love for two years now, and you won't just come out of nowhere to take him from me! You social climbing, gold digging b***h!", She spat in my face.
I scoffed in sheer disbelief at the amount of insults she loaded on me, not knowing that I didn't want this either.
I had enough of this.
"You think I want this? You think I like the fact that I'm being forced to marry someone who obviously doesn't like me? Go and fight the Moon Goddess, Rachel! Not me-"
She screamed in hellish anger and charged at me with so much speed, I found myself flat on the ground in the next second, nursing my aching back.
Everyone got up in shock when they understood this was getting serious.
"Reginald!! Help your wife out!! Take that mistress away from her now!!", Alpha Malcolm ordered his son, but Reginald didn't move an inch.
He just stood there, arms folded, watching this strange mad woman attack me.
"You think you can talk back at me?!!", She yelled in fury. "You think you're crazy, I'll show you crazy!"
She dug her hands into my hair and began pulling it in every direction, causing me to cry in extreme pain.
I lay there, defenseless against the crazy girl as she beat the hell out of me, hoping that the Moon Goddess would at least make her kill me, so I could leave this miserable life.
People rushed to take her away from me, but she was the devil herself. It took the whole audience save for Reginald and my stepmother to drag her away from me.
But before they could, she had her hands on my pendant and snatched it away from my chest.
"Rachel, please! Give me back my pendant!", I begged and tried to get up, but I was too weak to even move.
"Oh, you want it back? You can have it back!!"
I watched in horror as she slammed the pendant on the ground and smashed it into several pieces.
"No, Rachel!! Please stop!!", I begged her with everything in me, but she didn't listen. She crushed the pendant under her feet multiple times until it was reduced to dust.
"There! You can have it!!", She yelled in evil triumph and walked away from the altar.
The sight of the crushed pendant made my heart too heavy for me to breathe properly.
As if to add insult to injury, I watched the husband I was being forced to marry, running after Rachel, the girl he obviously cared for the most.
I wished I could die right now.
