Reflections
At 1:15 a.m. on Saturday morning, June 16, 1969, Soo-ah sat in her study, reflecting on life, counting her blessings. Gus had long since gone to bed. Later this day, Soo-ah’s oldest child, Charlotte, her only daughter, would be married. Soo-ah had much to be happy about.
She replayed Charlotte’s sweet life in her mind, happy for Charlotte, but maudlin for a chapter closing in her own—her little girl all grown up. Soo-ah thought about her mom and dad, and her poor sisters. She wished they could be here for this event.
