Dreariness all Around
His right shin really hurt. Jae-sun pulled his right leg up and tucked his knee under the lip of the bag they’d put over him, rubbing his shin, trying to ease the pain from banging it on the door threshold when they threw him into the van.
Two guys were in the front seats talking about a transfer vehicle. Their dialect revealed them as being from the North.
Are they going to kill me?
The dread evaporated, convinced that if they were going to kill him, they would have done that already and they wouldn’t be worried about a transfer vehicle. The dread of being separated from his family would not so easily leave his mind. And what of his family?—would they be targets, too? Jae-sun’s hands were not bound under the bag, not yet, anyway.
