Chapter Twenty-three
Discreet Arrival
Breakfast had been served and the kitchen was clean. Jae-sun walked out into the courtyard to use the latrine. He noticed a shadow on the ground and looked up to see a partial eclipse of the sun. Jae-sun knew better than to look right at the sun, but the event was interesting nonetheless. He determined to calculate the date when he returned to Block One.
Jae-sun walked back inside to help Ji-su prepare the noon meal for the guards. As they were finishing cleaning up, Jae-sun noticed Ji-su walking with her hands on her back.
“Ji-su, are you having labor pains?”
“Yes.”
Jae-sun had developed a contingency plan for this day, preparing a meal in advance that could be cooked and served on short notice. In fact, he had several meals prepared and frozen,
