“So,” Ellen said once they were settled on the lawn chairs in the back yard, “you were going to tell me how the two of you met.”
“I saw him and chased him down,” Philip told her, laughing when she nodded in approval. “And that’s not so far from the truth, just not the way you’re thinking.”
Philip proceeded to tell her what had happened that night. She listened intently, shaking her head from time to time until he’d finished.
“Interesting, but I have the feeling there are things you’re leaving out of the story.” She took a long look at Adam and then asked softly, “Where are you from originally, before you decided to take up residence in a cave?”
“I am from…” Adam shot a panicked look at Philip.
