In my past life, Lucia took my advice and went to the hospital for a scan.
She got the result right on the spot. She had a tumor growing inside her.
The doctor warned her directly that if she did not get the growth removed surgically, it would rot and start oozing pus.
Lucia could not bring herself to go through with it, so she never scheduled the operation.
Just about a week later, faintly foul‑smelling pus started seeping out of her body. That was exactly when it was supposed to happen.
Lucia began, "Actually, I..."
I knew exactly what she was going to say, so I cut her off mid‑sentence.
I said, "Oh right, Lucia. Yesterday when I was out getting a late‑night bite with a friend, I saw a girl asking Leo Hayes for his phone number."
Her attention snapped to me instantly.
She asked, "What happened next? Did he give it to her?"
Leo was the guy Lucia had a huge crush on. He worked as a department supervisor in another division of our company.
He stood over six feet tall, had a nicely proportioned build, and pulled off a pretty impressive vibe when he kept his mouth shut.
Lucia had fallen for him at first sight two months earlier, at the company team retreat.
She had even worked up the courage to talk to him once, but he just completely brushed her off.
I replied, "I heard him tell the girl that he only liked girls with great bodies, so he turned her down."
Lucia said, "Oh, I see."
She instinctively glanced down at her own chest and fell deep into thought.
I watched as the indecision on her face slowly hardened into resolve.
With that, I turned back to my own work.
Of course, I never actually ran into Leo last night. That whole scene that I had just made up never even happened.
I had only found out Leo had a thing for big‑chested girls from Lucia, right before I died back in my past life.
