Chapter 3: Soul For Sale (3) *** “Isn’t she far too mean~ Hey, Giovanni what do you think?” Gorge turned to the main actor to ask for his input on the situation but the man didn’t seem to care at all. “You may begin when you are ready.” Giovanni said to Felix who was waiting patiently for the judges to speak amongst themselves. “It feels like nobody values my opinion here anymore… you may proceed Felix…” Gorge slumped down his shoulders after being ignored by the lead actor and focused on Felix’s performance instead… It was a simple enough scene that had to be performed, but it was jam packed with emotion which made it difficult. The main character was just told he had to leave his lover who was getting engaged to another person. In this case Felix is playing the role of the lover who was abandoned, he is confronting ‘Alfred’ who wants to push him away and forget about him once and for all. However feelings aren’t as easy to disregard, they argue with each other, then ‘Alfred’ offers the man money to make up for their break up. The other refuses and insists he needs an explanation. Seeing how hurt his ex lover is, ‘Alfred’ offers the other to hit him to make the second male lead feel better about them separating. Felix’s character takes him up on the offer and hits the other person across the face then leaves him without accepting the money he was given. Felix took a deep breath, closed his eyes, focused as if there was absolutely nobody else in the room, and began: Act I, Scene I *** “You’re probably mistaking me for someone.” Giovanni gave the first line to begin the scene. “Alfred! I know it’s you! Why are you trying to fool me?!” Felix spoke with a great deal of pain in his voice. “There is no Alfred… I told you my new name is Alex. So stop pestering me! And the past… you should forget that as well…” Giovanni also gave a heartfelt performance despite there was no need for him to try so hard. “How am I supposed to forget?! Do you think it’s that easy!?” Felix yelled at the main actor, tears dripping down his face, real genuine tears. The facial expressions he made also indicated he was actually in pain. “How could you say that…” “Listen… there was nothing between me and you from the very beginning. So stop whining like that and go back.” Giovanni’s voice was as cold as the weather outside. It felt like his very words could make the entire room and all its occupants to freeze. He stood up from his chair and moved closer to the man. “You should know your place is with them and not with me.” He continued. “You…” Felix took a step back. “You should take responsibility for what you did to me…” “How much do you want?” Giovanni asked without even flinching. Taking out his wallet ever so slowly he continued. “I’ll give you any sum you ask for as long as you go away.” Felix grabbed the other actor by the collar, it didn’t matter that he was slightly shorter than Giovanni. “Do you think money is the answer to everything?” He asked in a low whisper, the anger in his voice was clearly visible, his hands were shaking out of frustration and he looked directly at the man’s eyes. “It is.” Giovanni answered in the same breath. He looked away as if he was hiding something from the other person. There was definitely something on his mind at that very moment. “Well… it’s not money that I want… it’s you… Can you give that to me?” Felix asked, the tears he had shed had dried up from his face, leaving stains on his shirt. “I can’t… so take the money and leave…” Giovanni touched the man’s hands that were holding onto his collar. He made the man let go of him. “This will help you get out of your situation… and also live a good life. All you have to do is leave...” This time Giovanni had the faintest hint of emotion in his voice. His tone was none the less convincing, however the other person obviously had no intention of letting him go so easily. “I can’t…” Felix looked like he was about to cry again but Giovanni grabbed onto his hands and spoke. “Hit me. If it will make you feel better, hit me.” Giovanni said with complete seriousness. “…!” Felix collected his last shred of pride and raised his hand. The other male closed his eyes expecting the impact. But in the last second Felix pulled him in and kissed him instead of hitting him. “Hmp…!” Giovanni was surprised by the sudden gesture but didn’t push the man away, in fact he deepened the kiss as if taking it like a challenge. *** “Was that in the script?” Gorge asked quietly the woman sitting next to him. “It wasn’t… their going off the script… but it’s incredible… I’ve never seen two people connect so well the second they meet each other…” Harriet said with genuine delight in her voice. She noticed the two men had deviated from the script with several lines but she didn’t interrupt them. She was far too invested in the two men’s performance that seemed to come from the depths of their souls. ‘I knew Giovanni was an amazing actor but… I’ve never seen anyone able to match him so well…’ Harriet thought to herself, she couldn’t help but smile, seeing these two men act together made her happy. ‘This is it… the actor I’ve been looking for… This movie is going to be my best work!’ She thought to herself as she wrote down on her work sheet. ‘Number 52: Felix Monroe – Accepted.’ *** “Ah… haa…” Felix was finally released from the other’s kiss that left him breathless. ‘Was that a kiss or a warning?!’ He wondered to himself as he touched his lips with his fingertips, there were faint traces of blood. The other actor had bit him during the kiss, it wasn’t harsh but it was enough to make Felix feel the metallic like taste of his blood during the kiss. “You’re good.” Giovanni remarked as he extended his hand. “What was your name again?” He asked the man who’s lips he had just devoured. “Felix Monroe.” The small time actor said as he shook the other’s hand and gave him a gentle smile. That moment was what put the start of his career…
