Chapter 2

Maverick’s POV: I walked casually through my pack, not really caring to bow to people that were bowing to me out of respect. The scent was getting stronger as I walked in the direction it was coming from. I turned into the forest, a secluded part of the forest. No one usually comes back here, except teenagers who are dating. ‘Calm down, Titan. Don’t jump the gun just yet.’ I warned him. ‘Our mate is with a male. I will rip the dog from limb to limb, till there is nothing left,’ he growled. I took a step to where her scent was. It was just a couple of feet beyond the trees in front of me. Titan was stirring angrily in my head, pacing back and forth. I was about to tell him to stop, when a whiff of blood filled his nostrils. Titan stopped pacing and growled furiously. ‘Let me out. We need to go to mate. We need to protect her. LET ME OUT!’ he growled, furious. I did not let him out. If he hurt our mate, I would be pissed. I took off running. I stepped into the clearing only to find her fighting off two teenage boys that were twice her size, and a teenage female slut with her bare hands. One boy was the Gamma’s son, Jaxon Blackwell and his cousin Makalia Thorton, and the boy passed out of the ground and is training to be a warrior, Joseph Peters. ‘Weakling,’ Titan scoffed at Joseph’s passed-out body. My heart swarmed with pride at how my mate could hold her own without shifting. I stepped into the shadows, admiring my mates’ impressive combat skills. Adeline’s POV: I was walking down the path I normally take with my father to get to Alpha’s house. There was no one around who made me keep my guard up. I gripped my right hand, feeling the cold, brass knuckles against my skin. I had better pick up the pace. It is too quiet out here today. Normally there were a couple of older folks out today, but I mean no one was out. I quickened my pace and just as I was about to turn onto the path to get to my godparent’s house, someone came up from behind me and covered my mouth and grabbed me by the waist and picked me up. I screamed as loud as I could, hoping someone would come and help me, but I was an outcast, so I doubted anyone was going to come save me. I bucked my head back, hitting the person in the nose, as he dragged me into the woods. My head was throbbing, making my head feel dizzy. Out of all the places to take me, he carried me to the secluded part of the woods where most teens took their lovers to smooch in privacy. I internally felt sick to my stomach just thinking about where I was at right now. The guy finally threw me on the floor, making me fall on my left wrist. I heard it crack as I landed on it. “Oh look, I broke W.L.G’s wrist,” the guy laughed. I looked up at the guy. It was Jaxon, the Gamma’s son. He was popular and an absolute douche. Definitely, a pretty boy type: muscular, blonde hair, hazel eyes, and evenly tanned skin. His nose had dried blood dripping down his face and on his shirt. “I thought I told you to kill yourself?” he questioned. “I thought I told you to f**k off,” I fired back, angrily. I stood on my feet, cradling my wrist close to my chest. “Someone found their voice,” a female voice stated, sarcastically. The female stepped out of the shadow of the trees. It was Makalia, Jaxon’s cousin. She is the number one slut in the pack. Honestly, this girl should be taught to close her legs and maybe she would actually pass her classes with a passing grade. Blonde chicks just aren’t worth the educational roads of success. The amount of cleavage popping out of her shirt was a serious turn off to anyone who could keep it in their pants. I’m surprised though, she was actually wearing sweats instead of booty shorts up her crotch, or mini skirts that literally had no use in covering anything, because it was like she was walking around in her underwear anyway. “Let’s teach Humie here how she really is not welcomed,” a familiar masculine voice, screeching his opinion. I know that bile screechy voice, it’s Joseph. Luckily, I never trust him. I knew he was a traitor from the start, never a friend. If I am being honest, everyone I grew up, got their wolf, and then turned on me when they found out I had no wolf. I was shunned by everyone I grew up with at the age of sixteen. It hurt for about two full weeks, being ignored and belittled by everyone in school and in the pack. Now I just walk with my head held high and ignore them. I do me and don’t give them the satisfaction of feeling weak and vulnerable. I draw the line at someone physically touching me though. Good thing Lily is a master at teaching me self-defense. I get to practice my moves on someone that is not her or Maximus. I accept the challenge. They all circled me, walking around me as if I was their prey to kill. I let them think they were going to get the upper hand. Joseph took the first swing. I dodged his fist, pulling my right arm back and bringing it full force forward, smashing the brass knuckles into his ribcage, which he left wide open. These fools do not know they messed with the wrong person. My Betas’ strength beats their strength by hundreds. Joseph fell to the ground at the powerful jab and the contact of the wolfsbane. “You really think you could beat me so easily,” I laughed. “I’m a beta’s daughter, you fool. I might be human, but I still have Beta strength.” I rolled my eyes, glaring at all of them. I upper-cut Joseph, who was still recovering from the punch in the ribcage. The strong blow sent him falling to the ground at my feet, unconscious. Makalia growled, her inner wolf fighting to come forward. Her wolf was fighting the shift. I heard of this happening when the wolf's counterpart does not agree with her human counterpart's decisions. Her wolf will block her shift. It could leave the human counterpart stuck in mid-shift forever if not treated by a doctor. “Shift you, dumb dog,” she growled. Her wolf counterpart growled back in defiance. “Go on, Jaxon. She is not leaving this forest,” Makalia growled, still partly shifted. Jaxon stalked forward. I stood unfazed. I was ready for him to attack. Jaxon grabbed a fist full of my hair, pulling me close to his face. I spit in his face, not letting him see me weak. Jaxon threw me against the closest tree, as a ground-shaking growl was released from nearby. Was that an Alpha growl? That was a powerful growl. I flew like a ragdoll into the tree, hitting the trunk hard, as my head fell and hit the ground. Pain radiating down my back and my head was buzzing from pain and throbbing with a headache. I sat up, pushing my body up to a seated position as I cradled my arm to my chest. I got on my knees, a small whimper threatening to escape my lips. I bit down, holding back the pain that was radiating throughout every part of my body. I need to get up and fight. I will not be dying in this forest in this way. The pain was too much, and my vision was blurry. My body was in too much pain and was about to collapse from the extreme pain and pressure in my head. I tried to stand up, but my body slumped back to the floor. My eyes slowly closed, as I tried to fight to keep them open. I completely gave into the darkness.
