Mavi Pov
Even though I fell asleep late thinking about the kiss Alpha Magnus had given me, I still woke up early. I needed to prepare food for my child, or Alpha Magnus might accuse me of not doing my job properly.
As soon as I got out of bed, I went straight to the bathroom and took a quick shower. While combing my hair, my gaze fell unconsciously to my lips. I could not help but touch them with my thumb. Even now, I could still feel the warmth and softness of Alpha Magnus’ lips. He was an excellent kisser, and the feeling had been dizzying.
I found myself smiling as I remembered how skilled he was. Who would have thought that a man like him, so serious, grumpy, and seemingly uninterested in women, would be such an expert at kissing?
How can you say he is not interested in women? a small voice in my mind argued. Did he not flirt with you before? Who knows, maybe this is just what he does at night. He has probably kissed so many women that is why he is so good at it. And then the voice added in an exaggerated tone, Besides, he already has a chosen mate. Stop saying he is not interested in women.
My smile faded instantly, replaced by a frown. I shook my head hard, hoping the action would erase every memory of last night from my mind.
I let out a long sigh and headed downstairs to the kitchen to cook breakfast for Moses. It was still very early, and since there was no school, I knew my son was still fast asleep. On days when he did not have classes, I let him sleep in to catch up on his rest.
"What happened, Dayay? Why is the flower vase on the center table broken?"
I heard Alpha Magnus’ loud voice coming from the stairs as he questioned Dayay and the other two maids. The three women stood before him, unsure how to answer. Naturally, they had no idea what had happened; they must have been fast asleep when it occurred. But why could Alpha Magnus not remember that I had hit him with that vase because he refused to let me go? Did he really forget everything when he was drunk?
"I do not know, Alpha Magnus. When I woke up, it was already broken. I kept the pieces so you would see," Dayay replied. She did not seem afraid of him, unlike the other two maids who kept their heads bowed and were visibly trembling, even though he was only asking a question and not scolding them.
"I do not know either, Alpha Magnus. I have no idea how it broke," Che said.
"I did not break it, Alpha Magnus," Grace added.
The sound of my slippers caught their attention as I walked down the stairs.
"I am not scolding anyone. I am simply asking why it is broken. That vase was very expensive, imported from Italy," Alpha Magnus told the maids.
"If it was that expensive, why did you place it where it could easily get knocked over? It should have been set higher up, out of reach even for a cat," I said softly. I had not realized my voice carried enough for everyone to hear, and all eyes turned to me. I simply shrugged and pretended not to notice the sharp look Alpha Magnus was giving me.
"All of you, back to your duties," Alpha Magnus ordered the maids before turning his attention fully to me. "What about you? Do you know why that expensive vase got broken?"
"Yes. Because I was the one who broke it. And do you want to know how?" I answered quickly.
Alpha Magnus’ expression darkened.
"I let you stay here to take care of my child, not to break things inside my house," he said firmly, ignoring my question.
"I broke it because I hit you over the head with it last night. Do you really not remember?" I raised an eyebrow at him. "You were so drunk you did not even feel it when I smashed your precious vase against your head."
Alpha Magnus stepped closer and gripped my arm tightly. "Did you try to hurt me last night? Why? So you could have Moses all to yourself? Are you not afraid I might punish you for this?"
I rolled my eyes at his words. "Excuse me, Alpha Magnus. If I were capable of hurting or killing someone, I would not be here fighting just to keep my child. I could have just pretended to agree to marry Alpha Abner and then dealt with him when his guard was down, would I not?"
Alpha Magnus let go of my arm, but the sharpness in his gaze did not fade. "If that is true, then why did you hit me?"
"What? She hit you on the head with a vase, Alpha Magnus?" Sonia asked in disbelief as she walked through the door and heard the last part of our conversation.
"You are here quite early, Sonia. Is there something you need?" Alpha Magnus asked her seriously as she stepped in front of us.
"Alex told me you had too much to drink last night, so I came to make you some soup to help with your hangover," Sonia replied with a smile, though her expression turned sharp again as she remembered what she had heard. She turned to stare at me. "Why did you hit Alpha Magnus? What right do you have to do such a thing?"
"Why do you not ask him why I did it? The problem is, he cannot remember the reason. But even if I tell you now, I am sure you will not like hearing it," I replied calmly, unaffected by her piercing glare.
In the past, if someone had looked at me with such scrutiny, I would have been terrified. But I was no longer the same person. Everything I had been through had made me brave. The only thing I truly feared was losing my child.
"Are you really telling me you do not remember why she hit you, Alpha Magnus?" Sonia asked him with a sneer.
I did not wait for Alpha Magnus to answer and walked straight to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for Moses. Alpha Magnus never ate breakfast, so Dayay never bothered preparing it. I was busy frying hot dogs when Sonia entered the kitchen.
"Move aside. I am going to cook soup for my Alpha," Sonia demanded, raising her eyebrows at me. I ignored her completely and continued cooking as if I were alone. "Hey! Are you deaf? I said move aside! I am cooking for my future husband!" she shouted at me.
Her tone annoyed me, so I lifted the ladle and pointed it at her face.
"If you shout at me one more time, I will use this hot ladle to shut you up for good," I warned her.
"Is that so?" she challenged with a smirk. "I do not believe you have the guts to do it. You are just bluffing."
I had no idea what she meant until she suddenly grabbed my wrist. I tried to pull the hot ladle away, but she refused to let go. She grinned wickedly, then yanked my hand toward her and pressed the hot metal against her own cheek. After that, she let go and screamed loudly, bursting into tears. Hearing her scream, Alpha Magnus rushed into the kitchen immediately.
"Help me, Alpha Magnus! She burned my cheek with a hot ladle!" Sonia cried out, throwing herself into his arms.
Damn it! I fell right into her trap, I thought helplessly to myself.
