Mavi Pov
"What have you done, Mavi?" Alpha Magnus asked me angrily as he immediately lifted Sonia and carried her toward the living room.
I let out a long, heavy sigh before following them.
"I am not responsible for what happened to her, Alpha Magnus," I defended myself as I stepped closer.
"Get the first aid kit now!" he shouted at me, completely ignoring my words as if he had not heard a single thing I said.
"She did that to herself on purpose—"
"I said get the medicine kit!" Alpha Magnus shouted at me again when I did not move to obey his order.
I glanced over at Sonia and saw her flashing me a look that held a faint, teasing smile. Her expression was filled with quiet triumph and satisfaction, the exact opposite of how I felt at that moment. My chest felt tight and heavy, weighed down by frustration toward Sonia and a sharp, stinging resentment toward Alpha Magnus.
"If you want to treat her so badly, then go get the medicine kit yourself!" I shouted back at him. I turned around and ran straight up the stairs instead of doing what he told me to do. I ignored the sound of him calling my name in anger. If I obeyed him now, it would only give Sonia exactly what she wanted and make her feel even more pleased with herself.
I went straight to Moses’ room to check if he was awake. When I pushed the door open, I saw that he was already sitting on the edge of his bed, still looking a little dazed and sleepy from just waking up.
I walked over to him and wrapped my arms tightly around his small body, and hot tears began rolling down my cheeks before I could stop them. I had a sinking feeling that my days inside this house were numbered, so I held onto him as long as I could, memorizing the warmth of his presence.
"Why are you crying, Mom?" Moses asked softly when he heard me sniffle. He pulled back from our hug and shifted a little away so he could look up at my face clearly. "Did someone make you cry? Did Daddy fight with you? If he is just going to keep making you sad, then I do not want him anymore. Let us just leave this house right now, Mom."
"We cannot just leave your Dad’s house like that, Moses," I explained gently but seriously. "If we run away from here, not only will Alpha Abner hunt us down, but your Dad will also chase after us. And if he takes you away from me, I am certain he will keep you far away so I will never be able to see you again. There is also the danger that Alpha Abner will find you once more and use you to hurt me or force me to do what he wants. You have to stay here because your Dad is the only one strong enough to keep you safe. Do you understand why we have to stay?"
"Yes, Mom," Moses answered in a quiet, trembling voice, and then tears started streaming down his own face. "I am so sorry, Mom. I never thought that meeting Dad and spending time with him would be the reason you end up hurting or leaving me. If I had known this would happen, I would never have asked you to find him. We were so happy when it was just the two of us."
"Sshhh... please do not cry, Moses. I hate seeing you upset like this," I whispered as I wiped his tears away with my thumbs and held his face gently between my hands. "You are a brave boy, remember? You are the son of an Alpha, so you have to be strong even when things are hard. Promise me that even if I am not always right beside you, you will still be a good boy. But also promise me that you will never let Sonia mistreat you or push you around, okay?"
Moses nodded firmly even though his eyes were still wet with tears. "I promise, Mom. I will be a good boy even without you. And I will never let Sonia be mean to me or hurt me."
I pulled him into another tight hug. I had a feeling Alpha Magnus would follow me here to confront me, so I was not surprised when he appeared at the doorway of Moses’ room a moment later.
"Come outside. We need to talk, Mavi," Alpha Magnus said, his face dark and serious.
"I do not want you anymore, Dad!" Moses spoke up angrily before I could say a word. "I thought you loved me and Mom, but all you ever do is make her cry."
"Moses, please stop talking like that. We already talked about this, remember?" I tried to calm him down, holding him gently by the shoulders.
"But he made you sad, Mom! I hate seeing you cry!" Moses insisted, throwing a sharp, hurt look at his father.
Alpha Magnus’ expression grew even darker after hearing what his son had said. He walked toward me and, without saying a single word, grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the room.
"Stay inside your room, Moses. Your mother and I just need to speak privately," Alpha Magnus told his son sternly when Moses tried to follow us out.
He closed the door firmly behind us and dragged me down the hall toward another empty room where no one would be able to hear us.
"Let go of me, Alpha Magnus! You are hurting me!" I snapped angrily as soon as we were inside the room and he finally released his grip, though he blocked the door so I could not leave.
"You are hurt?" he asked me in a tone that was firm and full of disappointment. "Was what you did to Sonia not painful then? I never thought you were capable of hurting someone like that, Mavi."
"I did nothing wrong to her! She hurt herself on purpose just so you would get angry at me!" I defended myself desperately.
"Why would Sonia do such a thing? She is not crazy enough to hurt herself just to frame you," Alpha Magnus replied, his voice full of conviction as he stood up for her.
It felt as though an invisible hand had wrapped itself tightly around my heart and squeezed hard. He chose to believe Sonia’s lies over my word. I did not even understand why his blind trust in her hurt me this much, but I had no time to analyze those confusing feelings right now, so I pushed them aside.
"Then why do you not ask her why she did it and why she decided to blame me for it?" I asked him with a bitter, knowing smile. It was obvious to me that Sonia had planned this all along just to turn him against me and give him a reason to throw me out of this house.
"You still refuse to admit what you did even though there is already proof?" Alpha Magnus asked, his jaw clenched tight with frustration.
"Proof? What proof do you have, Alpha Magnus?" I fired back at him, my voice rising with anger and disappointment. "Did you actually see what happened? Did you see me burn her face with that ladle? I never thought that a powerful and feared Alpha like you could be so easily fooled by someone like Sonia. I am truly disappointed in you."
Alpha Magnus stared at me in silence for a long moment, his expression unreadable and cold. Then he finally spoke the words that shattered whatever little hope I had left.
"I think you can no longer stay in my house, Mavi."
I stared back at him in complete disbelief. He was really going to kick me out just because of Sonia’s lies? What about our child? Was this really the end of everything between us? I never imagined I would be forced to leave his home this soon, and the thought of being separated from Moses made my knees feel weak.
