The Halloween Monster

Chapter 7

Two more couples. That’s what is left. I can feel the spell and the tethers attached to the others, which ones are gone and which ones are here. So far there’s two couples, four people, left. I already have Johnny and Becca, Jude and Latisha. Tonight’s the finally, they won’t be able to stop my monster. I wiped every thing clean. I chuckle to myself.

They’ll never get the spell books anyways. They’re in my room behind wards. I haven’t felt them move or shift so they’re still in the room. Ha. They’ll never get what needs to be done. Finally I’ll have everything I have ever wanted.

When I come back from my thoughts I look up to see Berry, Rodger and Mikail are walking towards me. “Hey guys!” I wave and we start chatting about our classes, I check my watch to make sure the girls will hear in time.

“Ahhhh!” I jump as Bella comes barreling into me like she usually does! I smile and hug her back, Lia comes tumbling into us and we all laugh. I look around with a smile and I turn back to the girls.

“Where are Becca and Latisha?” I ask while smiling like I don’t know what happened to them. Ha!

“Oh,” Bella looked at Lia and replied “they should be here, right?” Lia looks back at Bella and pulls her phone out. I’m scowling at them now because the other two should be gone. I can feel them. “Yeah, that’s what it says here” and she turns the phone around that does indeed say they’d be here. I smile at them genuinely. Maybe the spell backfired and took the guys first. That just makes it better.

Let the games begin I think as we start walking into the theatre.

“Ok, we’re in position.” Xavier shuffles as Jace talks. Becca, Latisha, jude, and I just watch the two. “Girls?” Jace and Xavier look at each other and smile. Then turn to us and nod. Looks like everything’s in place then.

Jude, Becca and Latisha are all talking about something when Jace and Xavier’s conversation distracts me. “So, you’re ready right?” Jace asks Xavier. “Yeah, I’m ready.” Xavier responds, then starts rubbing his belly and says “I’m starving though!” He looks over at Jace and says “You owe me. You know I stress eat.” And I just figured out what is going to happen here tonight. I don’t know whether to be scared or happy this is the day everything finishes.

I miss my girl. I look over at Becca and just wish I could hold her. Wish that we could have those stolen conversations with each other, our pillow talk. I miss being able to kiss those lips.

I get sucked into a memory of the day I vanished.

I’d just kissed Becca goodbye before I walked out of our apartment to go to the office to renew our lease and schooling for the next year. Since we live in town where the school is we’re allowed to keep the apartment for the years that we are in school. Their goal is “save for the future!” So why not?

The halls start to look different. All of a sudden I’m outside in the woods. I reach for my wolf… wtf! I can’t reach him! “Izaya” I yell in my head. It’s bloody blank! Where is he, I can feel the danger creeping up on me. What’s going on? I hear leaves rustle in the wind and that triggers my fight or flight. If I don’t have my wolf or my wolf hearing, I definitely don’t have my wolf strength which leaves running.

When I start running I hear a cackle. The hair on the back of my neck stand on end. When I look over my shoulder there’s nothing there. Not looking where I’m going, I trip over roots for a tree and trip down… a hill? That wasn’t there a few seconds ago. Ooof. I land on my back in the basement of school. What the hell is going on? Then everything goes black and I was a floating ghost for two months. I’ll never be the same.

I come back to while looking at Becca, I watched her cry for me for months. It broke me every time, at some point I had to look for the answers because I couldn’t just watch her cry all the time. So that’s what I did as a ghoul. Becca looks at me. When she starts to look worried I smile and turn around. I’m hoping it’s what I think it is.
