Chapter 2.

469 Words
Over a year later and I am on the way with my stepmom to a birthday party. The birthday boy just so happened to be my middle and high school sweetheart’s brother. We drifted apart and lost touch. Our families stayed friends and in touch. I wasn’t focused on anything, but my daughter and I surely was not looking to be in a relationship with anyone. While at the party, I received some not-so-subtle glares from the new girlfriend. Especially after he came and picked up my daughter and was talking to her and my stepmom. I was friendly and said hey. Even introduced myself as a family friend. I later found out that she started asking questions about me and even asked if my daughter was his child. Six months later. I am running on my lunch break to grab some food and walking out of Subway, I hear someone calling my name. Turning around, I see that it's Matthew waving. I walk over and say hey being polite and we catch up a bit. We decided on being friends again and exchanged numbers. I left and went back to work. That weekend, I receive a text message from him, and we start talking about the old days. After a few weeks of texting back and forth, we realize that the feelings we use to have are still in fact there and we decide that we want to move forward. He leaves his girlfriend and being honest with her, let’s her know that he still has feelings for me and can no longer be with her. Somehow, she manages to get my Snapchat and sends me a picture of a fire burning and the caption reading, “time and memories wasted because of you.” I just left her be since I knew she was probably just hurting and trying to lash out. Our relationship was great, my family loved him and his loved me. It helped that they already knew each other and were ecstatic that we were back together. They loved my little girl and welcomed her with no problems. A year into our relationship, we found out I was pregnant. We were all so happy! The family was about to grow even more because both his sisters found out they were pregnant too. His mom was over the moon, her son was having a child, her daughter was having her third and her stepdaughter was having her first. The excitement didn’t last long. A few weeks after finding out that we were expecting, our world came crashing down. We had a miscarriage and I spiraled into depression. Two weeks after we lost our baby, his stepsister lost hers as well. What started out as three pregnant women in the family, ended with only one remaining.
