Chapter 1
It was the beginning of my last year of school and to say I was excited was an understatement. I was considered one of the nerds you could say. Not that it really mattered anyway. I had my own group of friends but going out and partying was just not interesting to me. I did my work for school, and I even got a job being a host at Cracker Barrel. I know, I know. My best friend, Kelsea, was dating a guy from a different county and she wanted me to date his best friend. Because who would not want to date best friends. Well, I was in a relationship at the time and even though things were not the greatest, I told her that the timing was just not right. Fast forward a few months and said boyfriend and I went separate ways. My best friend being my best friend tried once again to set me up with her boyfriend’s best friend. Stating that he was newly single too and we would be perfect together. Perfect, yeah right! We were together for two months and things did seem great. My birthday came around and I was finally 18! We went out for a movie and then I had to head home since I lived 45 minutes away. That was the last time I saw him. He called a few days later after ignoring my texts and calls to say he was getting back with his ex, and he never wanted to hear from me again. I was determined not to let him break me. I picked myself up and focused on work and school.
Two months later.
I was so sick that I kept missing school. I knew what was going on, but I didn’t want to believe it. After school, I drove to the store and got the one thing I did not want to have to get. A pregnancy test. I moved back in with my dad and stepmom, so I drove straight home after the store. Acted as normal as I could, thankfully my dad had already left for work since he was on night shift. Took the test. Stayed sitting in the bathroom until the two minutes were up. Taking a deep breath, I grabbed the test and flipped it over, positive. A pink plus sign staring back at me. My world changed in an instant and I no longer knew what I was going to do. The first thing I knew that I needed to do was call him. I knew we were not together, and I knew I didn’t want to be with him but, he was going to be a dad and he had the right to know. Ha-ha, I could not have been more wrong. When I called and told him, there was no okay let’s talk about this, no we will figure it out. I got, “Get an abortion. I don’t want anything to do with you or it.” Then he hung up leaving me speechless. Well, jokes on you buddy because that is not what I will be doing. Right then I decided it was me and my baby against the world.
I graduated High School with Honors and five months after welcomed a 6-pound baby girl.
