Niki and I relaxed a bit when we saw that Zane was the one to enter the room.
“Uff, I almost had a mini heart attack! I didn’t want to have Grumpy burning my little butt!” Niki muttered as she stood up and closed the drawer.
“What were you two doing?” Zane asked with a chuckle, as he tried to peek at what Niki had in her hands. She closed the drawer but forgot to put the album back in, in the heat of the moment.
My mouth acted faster than my brain and the question left my lips, “Who is Celine?”
Zane gulped hard and flashed me a look of sympathy, before taking a few steps closer to Niki and me.
“She is… she was Egan’s mate. She died during the war, it was very hard for him,” he replied.
“His mate…” I muttered half-absently, as I lowered my gaze in sad contemplation.
