What the hell was that? I was left dumbfounded looking at my door when Jack left. This has got to be one of the strangest things to ever happen to me.
When I recovered, I immediately grabbed up my phone and called Cece. Once she picked up I instantly started talking, without even giving her a chance to say something "What the hell? Why was your brother at my house?" *cough* *cough* *cough*
"I'm sorry! He overheard our conversation and said that he was going to go to the diner, the pharmacy and that after he would go to your place to give you the soup and the medicine. He said that he needed to talk to you and that this way he would do both. I tried to talk some sense into him, saying that he didn't even know where you live, but he said that he knew…"
"What? *cough* How did he know? *cough* *cough* How is it possible? *cough* *cough* *cough*" I have so many questions!
Cece tries to find an explanation. "I don't know. Someone must have told him."
"But who? *cough* The only people who know where I live are you and…*cough* *cough* *cough* Rhonda. Rhonda?? *cough*"
Did Rhonda give my address to Jack and if indeed she did so, why?
Cece apologized again and said that she needed to hang up because she was showing a house to some prospective buyers.
I looked at the bag Jack had left on top of my kitchen counter and decided to go eat the chicken soup. I was starving because I haven't eaten anything since Sunday night.
I opened the bag and on top there was the medicine. I took the box out and underneath there was a chocolate bar and a card. I looked at the card and noticed that there was something written on it. When I looked closer I saw that it was a cell phone number. Jack's cell phone number. I stared at it for a moment, not sure what to do with it. I decided to put it aside for now and think about it later. I finally reached the chicken soup that luckily was still warm. I grabbed a spoon, sat on the couch and started eating.
Half an hour later my stomach was full but my mind was racing. I grabbed the card that had Jack's number written on it and stared at it for a while. Why did Jack leave a card with his phone number? Does he want me to call him? Or text? If so, why did he leave my house the way he did? Why didn't he say anything else?
That 's it! I'm mad! I hate this stupid games! Why can't we just be honest with each other?? I'm going to call him and get this over with!
I dialed his number and waited for him to pick up. After 5 rings he picked it up.
"Hi Mary. Are you ok, do you need anything?" Jack asks.
"Who gave you my number and my address?*cough**cough*" I go straight to business.
"Rhonda did." He states.
"Why?*cough*"
"Because I asked her." He explained.
"Jack what is this?*cough**cough*" I ask. I'm starting to lose my patience.
"This what? Be specific." He deadpans. That is it! He is asking for what's coming his way!
"Jack, let me tell you something.*cough* I don't like these little *cough* games. It may have worked with your ex wife but it doesn't work with me.*cough*"
"What little games? Are you out of your mind?" I can hear in his voice that is starting to get angry.
"Look Jack, I like you, OK*cough*? I know that leaving right after we had s*x, while you were still asleep might not be the best way to show it to you, but this is the truth. And like I told you I left because I was afraid that you would reject me.*cough**cough*"
I hear him take a deep breath before saying "I'll come over after work and we can talk about it, Mary."
"No." I immediately said " This is very simple Jack. I'm not saying that I love you and I'm not asking you to marry me*cough*, I'm saying that I like you. Which means that I would like to get to know you better, to go on a few dates, to kiss you…*cough**cough*a lot and also to have more s*x with you. Now either you feel the same way about me or you don't.*cough*"
And after I opened my heart to him he said the most infuriating thing he could have ever said to me.
"Mary… ah… I need to think about it."
What is there to think about?? I start to laugh so I don't cry.
"No, you don't. Forget I said anything. Goodbye Jack. It was nice meeting you." And I hung up the phone before he could say anything else.
The next thing I did was block his number. I don't want to talk to him ever again. There's only so much you can humiliate yourself in front of someone. And I have already had my fair share with Jack. Enough is enough. I'm done with him. I came here to make my life better and to forget about my a****** ex-boyfriend and not to be caught up in some romantic drama over a guy who doesn't even want me! Ha! I am a joke.
Right now I need to focus on me and on my business. That is what's important. I need to work hard and make my shop as profitable as I can. And that is what I'm going to do.
First I'm going to take a shower and change my clothes. Then I'm going to go check on my online shop to see if any new orders were placed yesterday, while I was sick. And lastly, but most importantly, I am going to get over Jack.
I got up from the couch and went to the bathroom. I turned on the water and after a few seconds I heard a loud bang followed by smaller bangs in the kitchen. I ran there and found out that the water heater was making that noise. I went to the bathroom again and turned the water off. The noise stopped. I turned the water back on and the noise returned. Crap. I turned off the water and left the bathroom.
I went to the kitchen to think about what I was going to do, when I remembered that Cece gave me a card of a repair guy on my first day here. I searched for my purse and when I found it I searched inside for the repair guy's card. After I found it I called the number right away.
