Reminder
The man reminded me of someone from the past that I should have completely forgotten. It's been almost seven years and I've gotten over my childish obsession. But a few days ago, I saw someone who looked very much like him in this hospital, only briefly, but my heart immediately beat!. That feeling is still there. "Dreaming me, huh?", said Hans smiling and propping his arms on the table in front of me. "Eng...yes...no...", I answered uncertainly because my senses had not yet fully set foot on the earth. "I'll choose the first one," Hans smiled again as he gently stroked my hair. "You want ..., hehe", I answered while pouting my lips a little trying to get rid of the embarrassment of being caught daydreaming. "Have you eaten?" Hans asked as he got up to drape his white coat over the arm of the chair next to me and sat down leaning his head against the back of the chair. "Tired?", I asked without answering the question Hans asked earlier. "Hmmm...." Hans muttered under his breath almost inaudibly. I think he's tired and wants to rest. Three hours ago I found out Hans' schedule started in the operating room. Hans is the best surgeon this hospital has even though he has only been in the district hospital for a year. Hans is a good man who is my colleague who has colored my life in the last year. Despite having served in this hospital for three years, I rarely socialized with other doctors, only attending important events so I didn't have many close friends. But when Hans came and held out his hand the first time he introduced himself to me I thought I could trust him. "Drrrrrrtttt.......drrrrrrrrrttt.........drrrrrrttttttt", Hans' cell phone which was in his white coat pocket vibrated several times and made Hans open his eyes slowly and pick up the call without seeing who the caller was. "Okay, I'm going there now," Hans replied, blinking slowly. "What time are you coming home? I'll take you?", said Hans as he put his coat back on. Hans looks handsome even though his hair is not messy because he had fallen asleep for a while. "It's okay Hans, I'm going home alone today because I brought a car, emergency?" I asked regarding the call earlier. "Yes, the patient I told about some time ago has woken up from his coma," said Hans as he got up and didn't forget to comb his hair with his strong-looking fingers. "Don't forget to eat lunch and be careful driving, it's rainy season now, let me know when you get home", Hans stroked my hair for a moment while blinking his eyes. "Yes, Doctor," I replied with a smile. After hearing the door closed, I cleared my desk and hung my white coat behind the chair then headed to the hospital cafeteria. Today I want to eat here first because my bones no longer have the energy to drive home even though my service hours are over for today. Last night I was on duty from 8 pm and this afternoon just finished and was replaced by another colleague of mine as the doctor on duty. *************** Going home and sleeping is what I want, lying on a soft mattress and fleece blanket. But the digital clock on the wall of the emergency room, which is still filled with patients and their families, which is still ticking at 3 pm makes me stop thinking about home, home sweet home. Hans walked over to me carrying a white plastic bag with the logo of a food brand I like. "Coffee?" he asked with a soft smile. I, who always couldn't smile lately, just nodded my head while reading the document the young doctor gave me about the patient I was treating. "What time is it today?" asked Hans as he placed the coffee in the bottle on the table near the rest of the files I was studying. Standing with your legs crossed and leaning on the table is the relaxed side of Hans that I like even in an emergency. He is a doctor who can show a calm and relaxed attitude in any situation. I sometimes do the opposite. Even though I'm a doctor too, I'm surprised that I am, I thought, glancing at Hans from behind my minus half glasses. "Night service," I answered quickly because suddenly my cell phone rang. Glancing at the screen showing Ida's name, I moved away from the table for a moment and as far away from Hans as I could. "Hello, Ida, how is Pras?" I asked quickly. Just because of an emergency Ida will call me. The emergency in my life for the last eight years is Pras. "It's nothing, sis, it's just that Pras has been whining and pouting and keeps asking to be connected to sis, sorry ma'am," said Ida slowly. "Oh, thank God, give it to...", before I finished asking Ida to connect me to Pras, I heard the cheerful voice of a boy who sounded very enthusiastic. "Mama, Sasa said earlier that her Papa bought her a cute dog for her because her birthday is coming up soon, Pras's birthday is also going on, so...," paused for a moment as Pras sighed. I used that opportunity to emphasize Pras, something I always remind myself about keeping pets. "Pras, Mama doesn't want Pras to keep a dog, but Pras is allergic to animal dander. Pras doesn't want Pras to be sick dear', I reminded Pras. "But ma...Sasa...," a light tap on my right shoulder made me pull the phone away instantly from my hand. With a smiling face, Hans whispered to me "sorry to interrupt your call, some patients are arriving soon, I just got a call from the ER". By gesturing with one finger that asked for a time that I would immediately finish my phone call to Hans, I immediately put my cell phone back to my right ear and emphasized once again to Pras that we will discuss this matter when I return home tonight. And I ended the call by not forgetting to remind Ida to have Pras dinner and go to bed on time, although I don't know if tonight I will go home at the usual time considering Hans' explanation just now. Days passed like days ago, nothing has changed since I decided to stay here, however, Hans' presence made me rethink everything. That I should move on, that's true, but of course not with Hans, he's too nice and might as well run away as soon as he finds out that..... "Please Dit..." Hans' voice rushing into my room by opening the door immediately brought me back to the present. I immediately rushed to my feet and saw that Hans' arm was bleeding. While cleaning the wound and changing the bandage to the new gauze I tried to open a conversation. "Why is it bleeding like this?" I asked after finishing cleaning and bandaging Hans's injured arm, an incision extending from the back of the hand to 5 cm to the wrist. "I'll keep this bandage when it's healed later," Hans muttered as he looked at the white gauze in his hand. "Doctor Hans!!!", I said, looking at him sharply. "Hehe...hehe...hehe...", his chuckle then sounded crisp as soon as Hans said, 'since I'm not crying, can I get a doctor's kiss?'. I then chuckled and went to my desk and took a bottle of mineral water and signaled Hans to drink it. When handing me a bottle of drink that always faithfully accompanies me. I said with a smile to Hans who had just repeated what I often said when examining my patients, most of whom were children. "Try that sentence is corrected, not a kiss but c-a-n-d-y". "I'm a special patient, so...". cup Suddenly Hans had kissed my left cheek and immediately left and left me still glued and staring blankly at the door that Hans had just closed.
