CHAPTER FOUR

"No, mother! You can't mean that, you are my only family, you should be happy for me."

Karen could not help but cringe at Aurora's statement.

"Happy? Did you say happy, Aurora? You are destroying lives including your own just because you are blinded by your love for Alessandro that you can't see that he doesn't have feelings for you. Do I have to spell it out to you? He loves Britney and not you. Why are you so stubborn and heartless. When you finally regret this, don't come running to me Aurora".

Karen said her piece and left without turning back, except shaking her head in disappointment when she got to Alessandro's front.

Karen enters the silverado mansion and the first person she sees is Britney who runs to meet her with tears rolling down her cheek.

"Mrs Matteo" as she usually calls her, " I am not fine, I can't pretend anymore, I'm still in love with Alessandro. I love him more than my own life, I can't live without him."

Karen trying to calm Britney down was like beating a dead horse, the only thing she could successfully do was to take the crying girl to her room.

Her eyes held pity for Britney, a girl that she had help bring up.

"Mrs. Matteo it's not Aurora's fault, you don't have to blame her, it's my fault, I'm probably not good enough for Mrs. Lorenzo that's why she rejected me as her daughter in law.

And Alessandro needs a wife in order to take over his father's business as stated in the will by his grandfather.

Since I couldn't have him, I knew Aurora has always had a crush on my boyfriend, so I asked him to marry her. As her friend, I only think the best for her, she is like a sister to me. We grew up together, went to the same school and played together. At least in life one of us has to be happy. Since I'm not destined to be happy, I can't stand in the way of another".

Karen hugged Britney closer, at this point Karen herself could not hold in her own tears.

"You don't deserve this Britney, how can a gentle and pure soul like yours go through all this?"

Britney couldn't help but roll her eyes at the mention of "pure soul". She had to caution herself mentally not to laugh.

She untangled herself from Karen.

"I feel like you are the only one that understands me. I love you like my mother, and I know that you love me too. After Aurora's wedding I would be traveling, I need to go far to clear my head."

Karen nodded her head in agreement.

"Just be happy child in whatever you do".

Karen excused herself so Britney could rest. She comes down to meet her daughter in the kitchen waiting for her.

"Mother?"

"No Aurora, you would not say a word, I don't think that there is a thing you would say now that would make me change my mind. I'm just coming from the room of the friend you betrayed. You should go see her state, go see what your decision has caused".

Aurora ran to Britney's room

"Oh you are back, how was your dress fitting?"

Instead of answering the question, she walks to her friend's side.

"Mother said you were crying Bri, are you okay?"

Britney seats up to rest her back before replying.

"Aurora how can I be okay? I lied, I still love Alessandro. We broke up because his mother is against our union. I chose you for a reason Aurora".

Alessandro helped wheeled his mother's chair into her room. He leaves after the woman asked him to.

Ten minutes later, she calls a number and a man in his early thirties enters the room with a younger man in his early twenties.

"Which one of you shot the gun?"

The two men kept quiet until Laurel brings out a gun from under her bed. I will end both your lives here and right now if you don't provide me with the answer I want.

Sam who was in his late twenties fell on his knees pleading.

"I promise that it was a mistake, I aimed for your shoulder just like you had instructed but I was caught, I ran away to hide when I heard the gun shot. I promise Ma'am, it wasn't I who shut the gun".

Laurel was sick of his explanation, she points the gun which already had a silencer placed on it at Sam and shot at his lap first.

"Now I give you one day to bring me the man that had the audacity to shoot at the Don's wife and the Queen of Italian Mafia Empire".
