The man nods, and Diego drops him to the floor. As he scurries off, I step out of my hiding spot.
“All of that is a lie, though.”
Diego turns, his eyes shifting to his wolf’s. “Remember what I promised. Kendric dies if you don’t agree.”
My throat almost closes up at the mere mention of Kendric dying. That is the last thing I want, but I can’t even find the words to express how I feel and it’s probably best that I don’t. I’ve already angered Diego.
The only thing that plagues me is if Kendric is such a monster, how does Diego plan to stop him? Why wouldn’t he be trembling like the other man?
